It's a shame Webber isn't here in the forum. I wonder what he would say about his mate Vettel.
Here in Germany Vettel is the hero, he can't do anything wrong. And the incident with the overtaking Webber, well they just put it down as racing.
I suppose it will be the same as Schumacher and Hill, Hill was the culprite, Schuhmacher the victim.
In Schuhmacher's last races you saw how far he would go to hold his position. Very dangerous manuveres.
He was again the hero fighting for position, other drivers making the same "mistakes" would have been classified as reckless!!

They are the same person in my book - brilliant , but deeply flawed. With Schumacher it wasn't just Hill, remember the incidents with Villeneuve and Alonso too?

Rosberg beats Lewis again I must admit he's proving faster than I thought.

Yeah....but....

Look at their brief history as a constructor recently. They pulled the plug because they couldn't win. Why couldn't they win you may ask? Engines IMO! Look at the success of Brawn the very next year Honda left! With a Mercedes engine they ruled 1/2 a season untouchable!

Naa...Honda don't have the stomach to hang in F1 if they don't win. And McLaren....they are quickly becoming the next Williams. All the great teams must fall .

I think we will agree to disagree on that one

Honda simply joined a not inconsequential list of manufacturers in the modern age that tried to do it all and failed - but when they linked up with a specialist racing team, they did win, or were at least very successful i.e. winning Grand Prix.

Look at Honda's record with McLaren and Williams
Look at Renault's record with Williams
Look at Mercedes record with McLaren

On their own, the records are a little different (note the Renault F1 team that won in 2005 and 2006 were really the old Benetton team).

Honda need to enter F1 because of the new engine regulations. They are choosing to do so without making the same mistake that BMW, Toyota, Mercedes (currently) and Honda themselves have in recent years i.e. trying to do the whole thing.

I agree though that nothing is guaranteed, and McLaren need to get a grip to stop their current problems. Obviously being Honda's main partner means that they have made a big stride in that dept already - being second string to the Mercedes works team was ridiculous for a team of McLaren's elevated status.

We shall see....

I don't follow this thread but thought you guys might like this story.

50 years ago my father was an electrical engineer with Ford Motor Company. He got to go to Indy to work on the electricals of the 1963 Lotus Ford, the first of its kind. He passed away last month at 92. I was clearing his house and found the press kit for the car and the race. Neat stuff inside.

I'd just like to point out that Brawn winning in 2009 had less to do with having a Mercedes engine and much more to do with the very successful exploitation of the double diffuser loophole. They built the car(Honda built just before they left) with this aerodynamic part at the core, all other teams had to play catchup and, by that time, it was too late. Also, if it was all about a Merc engine, why didn't McLaren do better in 2009?
You can have the most powerful engine on the grid but, without the grip provided by aerodynamics, it's not going to work to its full potential.
I'm glad to see Honda back as an engine supplier. That's where their real strength lies.

Sorry for your loss. Cool story. So your father would have worked with the late and very, very great Jim Clark. He finished 2nd at the Brickyard that year.

Yes and somewhere around here I have autographs from him, Graham Hill, Dan Gurney and probably some more.

Dad may have gone to France for the Le Mans effort but a co worker spoke French and got the nod. His mother lived with them and never spoke English when I was around their house.

At least Lewis has closed the gap on Rosberg, but 3 poles in a row for the German is tres impressive.

Damn, thought Webber would take Vettel.....

Well that was action-packed!

Got to say well done to Nico, fully deserved - great drive, no, great weekend - totally dominant

Lewis was unlucky with the pit-stops - should have been second

Excellent drives too from Sutil, Di Resta and, for the most part, Perez.

As for Massa and Grosjean??? Surely that is the Frenchman's last chance?

Boy when that first SC came out I was so pissed at Merc...but Rosberg managed to win...that was an awesome drive! I hope Grosjean goes away next season, hes to wreckless IMO. I'm sure Massa will be gone soon enough too. I thought for sure Webber could of taken Vettel but I guess it wasn't meant to be

Canada is very tough on tires, I don't think Merc will do well. Even with their 'illegal' tire test. I mean come on, they use this year's car and both top drivers on the test! Well at least Ferrari used a old car and a test driver...or was it their top drivers too? I'll have to look that one up.

Bottas came into F1 this year very highly regarded, but has shown little thus far (albeit the car is a dog). However today was MIGHTILY impressive from the Finn

Absolutely ridiculous... what does that man have to do to retire from a Grand Prix?? He smacks the wall - hard - with his right rear, he goes off the track..... Vettel was exceptionally lucky to finish - let alone win - that race.

Good drives from Alonso, Di Resta and of course Lewis.

McLaren.... oh dear....

Yes, I should have mentioned JEV. He seems to have the measure of Ricciardo.
