Per,

Just finished watching "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo". Interesting take on a Swedish murder mystery. What do you think of Steig's work?

Morning tithe... Just went for a walk in the park with my OT, and Dixie the Dog. Ours is the House on the left with the hedge, so you see I've covered a bit of ground. You can see the rain coming out-of the Alps, and up the Lake, and it is raining heavily now when I posting this.

For those looking for the picture of Des and his dog walking in the "Shire".

Thanks Mike !

This was the picture I was looking for...

Watch the whole trilogy (Swedish)... very good indeed (IMHO better that recent USA Hollywood version)...

Both the wife and I liked this recent version. The central female protagonist was 'complicated', but interesting.

If you're asking for my opinion on any of the movies (Hollywood or Swedish ones) then I have no clue as I haven't seen any of them.

I read the books however and found them a good read.

ETA; Asking me on my opinion on movies is like asking the Pope for his opinion on different Whiskey brands

I haven't counted, but i estimate that I watch no more than 10 movies each year.

I found the books a lot better than I expected. I watched one of the Swedish movies (1st one) and it was.."meh". I expect the Hollywood version to total garbage. But the books are available in several language and I can recommend it for casual reading.

Joc and Grollub-how "Swedish" were the books? Authentic insight into post-war Swedish cultural transition? Did Steig capture the social 'new' and 'old' interface well?

I can safelt, and publicly, now freely admit I'm looking forward to the Falkland Islands for four months. Because there will be some sleepless nights from January when Baby Mk2 appears.

Didn't recall hearing the news before. Congrats in advance, Martin! Well done, old boy. Wishing happiness and health for the mother and wee (really, really wee) one.

Fairly well yes, but maybe taking the perspective to the extreme end at times. Guess that's natural for a writer though to make the characters and plot more interesting.

They drink a lot of coffee at least

Sweden has a tradition of social realism in its crime fiction that stretches back several decades.

"Sommaren med Monika", Ingmar Bergman, 1953. He was 19, she was 17. That's jail time in Amerika, boy. But darn, Harriet Andersson would have been totally worth it.

Don't know if I would characterize "Sommaren med Monika" as crime fiction

... but I share your sentiments concerning Harriet Andersson

Wife and I watched several Swedish TV crime series... they were OK... the most recent ones we watched was
"Detective Inspector Irene Huss" (sometimes naive but still OK to watch)...

I really enjoyed the movie, CB. I'm gonna make time to read the books at some point.

It's now official. We have a signed offer sheet to buy our new house! More room, less stairs with a ground floor master bedroom, and a pool! Hope to be in on July 30th.

Looks nice Mike!

Larger space ... this means you get one room of your own as the AE command center, right?

Thanks, Per! I already have "room" to play. I'm just missing that other key ingredient.... time!
