Status: offline 		So after a long period of time lurking in this forum, reading reviews, checking out gameplay videos on YouTube and general waffling, I've finally taken the plunge and purchased WitP:AE. I had originally intended to wait and get the new Flashpoint Campaigns game when it comes out soon (?), and get this over the Christmas holiday.

Anyway, I was up 'till 2:30am playing the Coral Sea scenario on this beast of a game, and got my ass thoroughly whipped. Coool! I'm working my way through the manual on my e-reader, and I'm going to give Coral Sea another try soon.

I should've got this game a long time ago. Give me a few months and I'll be looking for an opponent in the PBEM forum.

I only have time to play against the AI (I play as the Allies), but it is far and away the best game going. You are in for a great experience and the end of your normal life. WITPAE is pretty much my second career...

And:

It is quite the norm for a new player to lose his or her ships in the Coral Sea scenario; your electronic ships, aircraft and Land Combat Units will forgive you - they come back fully restored to life the next time around.

You're right about the game. It's crack! It's crack! It's crack! I can't tell you how many nights I've had sleep cut (A) Short (B) Very Short while awaiting a turn from my current opponent. I'm 52 years old and generally responsible and able to excercise self control, but this spectacular game is....well, spectacular.

You're also right about the Forum community. Just outstanding. Oh, we've lost some old timers (and regained some - AU Tiger!), but there has been a huge influx of new folks over the past year or so. This game and the community shows no sign of quit. After four years (or eleven years if you count WitP and UV), this is clearly entered into the realm of the classic.

Maybe playing on a laptop so you can take it with you when nature calls......

Canoerebel is spot on! I find I spend as much time in the forum as playing the game! The fellows here always come through. Hazaa for the forum-ites!

I do that too! One time I was up at three in the morning to watch the replay and get the turn done before work. Can´t even count the nights I have been tossing and turning because I did something risky.

I even dream about the bloody game.

Sure sounds like crack!

Luckily once you get some weird irrational/unlucky losses, the withdrawal is pretty quick :P..

Status: offline 		Its a great game, but don't wait to play PBEM small scenarios. Jump right into Coral Sea, Guadacanal etc. Also the manual is a helpful reference but the forums and faq's here will teach you the most arguably.

The only bad part about this game is that I can't get my significant other excited about it.
Not only it is addictive, it is also very expensive when you factor in the insurmountable need to buy just about everything published on the pacific war (I have two copies of Conways, one at my home and one at my second home)

Status: offline 		So, I played Coral Sea again and got a victory, and just suffered a minor defeat (if that's the exact term, I haven't been getting much sleep lately) in the Aleutians campaign. I was a bit too timid in my amphib assault, and a bit too agressive w/my air ops.

I'm underway in the Guadalcanal campaign. The Marines have siezed Tulagi & Lunga point. I'm know trying to figure out why my SeaBees and base force won't load into my Amphib TF. Back to the manual!!

Status: offline 		Also, where are you trying to load 'em?  Loading them on a port size=0 will be difficult to impossible.  If you're so stuck, maybe have them build the port to the size necessary to re-embark another amphibious TF?

Status: offline 		Apparently I gave up my sould when I started playing D&D in the 6th grade.

I'm tring to load them in Noumea, which has a port size of 7. I have the troops in combat mode already, and made Lunga their target. BTW, they're just not showing up on the list at all, only the S. Pac HQ does. Weird.

Are your troops that you're trying to load from a restricted or are they from an unrestricted HQ? If restricted, you aren't permitted to move them and will need to change their status to unrestricted (hope you've got some political points in the bank). Otherwise, I can't think of a reason why combat prepped troops wouldn't board a suitable amphibious TF in a port the size of Noumea.
