Shots from Schwerpunkt's World War II Europe, from the France 1940 Scenario, currently in development.

Looks superb. I always felt his games looked very dry indeed. I have problems as it is with operational scale games, anything over a Coy I start to loose immersion. SO I need chrome and lots of immersive detail in this scale. What I notice din these screenshots is not only each unit has the commander shown but also from where the unit recruits from. I do hope leaders have an impact on the unit be it good or bad.

Still it's info and detail like that that I love esp as I said in what can be a rather dry experience.

Also I notice this is going to cover the Russian front aswell..is that correct?

Anyway think this could be Ron's big hit.

I have both RGW and AGW and the idea of combining the two makes perfect sense of course.

I get the feeling though, it will be like comparing fine German chocolate, with the best of fine Swiss chocolate when comparisons are made as would be inevitable with wargaming, when comparing them with Gary's designs.

I am slightly inclined to think that Ron's games will be superior to Gary's even if the differences are entirely difficult to really express.

Ron has never made any effort to make his games 'computer wargames' per se, they are what they are, board games on a computer interface. Meanwhile, Gary is likely pursuing the notion of an AI for his creations, and I don't fault him for listening to the largest group when it comes to listening to the complaining :)

Any time a wargame goes past squad tactical a lot of things occur. Sometimes it is the hell of ahistorical and sometimes it is the reality of AI limitations.

In my perfect world inasmuch as wargames is concerned, wargames are made to display on my computer sans ANY AI simply so I can solve 'where to put it' based questions, and they are given a great play by email process if I am actually willing to get off my stubborn behind and find a human to play against. I don't go looking for reasons like available time, and the problems of adult life to justify adding AIs to games that never needed them. If I had a 6x8 foot space, I'd be playing Fire in the East, and solo of I had to, and I would not be encumbered by issues that plague even games like War in the East. All WitE is to me, is Fire in the East and no trouble with a large table.

Ron's games, to his credit, often play like board games, and nothing else, as Ron basically thinks the same way I do.

Thus far, I have not seen anyone outdo Ron's creations, but, they are impossible to play without the right attitude.
I'm looking forward to seeing if I am up to the challenge of World in Flames as well. The last time I set up my board game, it ate all of my 4x6 platform, and then asked me for more :)

The real thing is better, just also inconvenient.

looks great. I got Russo-German War recently and love it, the interface is easy once you get into it - great supply system and combat system. Good games with a decent AI. I expect this one will have an improved easier interface

I feel the game above has too many units. It turns it from "game" to "chore".

Also there is no short cut to find the data of each unit. Finding the data becomes a chore.

A better wargame is Computer War in Euruope II. There was a doscussion here on Matrix. A link is below

For those who find GGWITW to complex this is a good alternative. Ha sit's quirks but when finally finished there is alot of game for the money. I'm enjoying it.

Am unable to find any further info about this game - at the Schwerpunkt homepage, not updated since ages, there's also no further info, except a few screenshots and a scenario list - of which, it seems, half weren't delivered yet.

No info on gameplay (AI and/or PBEM), or which scenarios out of the list are available. What options do you have, do you have to play f.e. all Allied nations or can you pick just some (i.e. can I choose not to play the Russians)?

That's bad marketing

Thank you for the link to a forum.

So I reckon one is expected to wade through numerous forum threads and posts for hours to get basic information needed - info which could just as well be summarized on a single product page done by the publishers themselves, just like it's done here at matrixgames...

Unfortunately the game is in kind of a "pre release" mode without a lot of the formal documentation and information available yet. One of the players did include a link to the user manual which you might find helpful.

Also, nice review which gives your more detail.
