ORIGINAL: Symon M’kay, Occasionally do restaurant reviews for the City of Fairhope. Fairhope is a rather eclectic place and prides itself on its insularity.and general je ne sais quoi. Have had seriously good food and wine at several local restaurants. But recently found a bad seed. La Cocina, (authentic Mexican food) , corner of Volanta Ave, and N. Section is not worth the time and certainly not worth the money. It’s nothing but a Tex-Mex house that charges you $12 for a $5 enchilada plate because they have a ‘nice’ building. I walk in and say hi and happen to get the manager. He says hi, in Spanish, so I talk to him in Spanish. His eyes glaze over. He has no clue, so I continue in English. “Looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant and do you have any Baja stuff?” Well, he’s “been” to Mexico, but he thinks Baja is a city somewhere that has fish. Then he tees off on his corn tortillas and when I say I prefer tortillas flautas, he is totally clueless. What is flour tortillas? And then the biggie, I asked about huachinango a la veracruzana, and the puke says “ I’m sorry, we don’t speak French, here.” This place is a worthless, pathetic, Tex-Mex, absolutely not worth anything you want to spend at this utter fake authentic ‘Mexican” restaurant. Ciao, John Ok, I guess this restaurant will not get a very good rating/review?
