It's a great game. However, I'm finding myself saving "defensively" against frequent crashes, when, seemingly overwhelmed by the calculation load (currently in the "Canary's Cage" mission) the game hesitates, the cursor turns into the Windows revolving circle of confusion, "Not responding" shows at the top of the window and then the game screen goes milky-white and I needs to Cntrl-Alt-Tab my way out and restart the game.

I know I should probably post this in tech support but I doubt there is a specific fix for crashes or I would have heard about it. I just wonder if there is anything one can do while playing the game, such as slowing time compression down when there is a lot happening, to avoid it.

Good to know. It's not quite a chronic issue for me, just a nuisance. And obviously I can save/load my way out of it.

Seems there a few people that crashes are relatively chronic. I had two with v1 and none with 1.01. There must be some common thread...

Same as thewood1, few crashes with v1 but none in v1.01.
Have to say that i have tested frenetically at the begining whereas i am playing now.

I still get those on occasion with v1.01 but not as often. It seemed to get better when I disabled my anti-virus and power save features but did not completely go away. I am running on a two year old i5 with 6G RAM that is shared with video. My thought is that my machine just isn't powerful enough. I would be interested to know what OS and equipment the people who are not experiencing any crashes are using and if you did something in particular to stop it from happening. Thanks!

Haven't had it crash yet; although I un-installed/re-installed, applying the official patch + database photos only. So far rock solid! p.s. when I applied the official patch, it took its sweet time updating to Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5. Hope you solve the problem!

The auto save is quite effective in recovering from crashes (but no auto save when you test out from the Editor). I'm not concerned. It is true that slowing the game down when things get frantic is useful. I only do up to 1 min max. 5 min for small scenarios. That said, the game really chugs in monster scenarios and we need more memory efficiency.

Really persistent crashes and freezes in "Canary's Cage" this evening, with one meltdown so ugly that I had to cold-boot my PC. I'm running a very well-maintained, factory-overclocked system with a lot of RAM. I'm going to try disabling my AV and whatever other background processes I can suspend but this rig has no problems with any other resource-hog application, even if I have to run graphics settings at "Medium" rather than "High" in certain state-of-the-art games. It's going to be difficult maintaining my enthusiasm for this terrific game if busy battles like "Canary's Cage" cause my PC to gag.

"factory-overclocked" There is no such thing as a stable overclock. It just have not run into a program that will break it yet.

You are right, nothing has broken it for over five years and I've hammered it. Command is the first demanding application in all that time to crash regularly.

I would suggest un-overclocking it. I over-clocked my old PC and used for three years with no issue. One day running Combat Mission, I got a heat warning and then could never boot it again. There is a reason manufacturers warn about overclocking.

I think the freezing may be related to the log being in a separate window. When it happens for me task manager says the log window is not responding.

So for those that Dont get the freezing do you play with the log in a seperate window or do you leave it on the main screen?

Thanks but I have no reason to undo my o/c; as I said, it's been rock solid for years no matter what I throw at it…except Command.

I'm running with the log in the main window.

Next things I'm going to try are disabling AV and AM background processes, clear the log and -- a Hail Mary -- switch off sound effects.

.NET 4.5 installed? Direct-X pack installed? (from \PreRequisites folder)

Also, does it crash on startup or during gameplay?

FWIW, Command is really CPU-intensive.

Yes, pulls more on the CPU than the GPU, huh?

My crashes all occur in-game, under a high calculation load, I surmise.
