The turns are coming fast and furious (by our standards). Here is a summary of May 18, 1943(c).
I wonder if the crevah, inscrutabah LYB's are up to something big?

JJ bugged out of San Fernando but left some booby traps and barrycades so we have to stop and attack today. WJD BB inbound either to Horycrappo-jima or Karenko. Wasp finally made it safely to Manado. Washington heads north after finally rearming her after magazine.

This guy has got to be written into the script, it would a criminal omission. Perhaps LADM Sprior could locate him for us.
RAAF (Caldwell) I believe. Quite a character, seems positively perfect for a role.

**************May 19, 1943(c)*************

Formosa/Horycrappo-jima: The inscrutable WJD fool us..they no show up. I will have to look at the game file but it appears they moved their BB a bit closer to the targets but did not attack. They showed blitz, causing us to pull back our amphibious groups and then they fall back into pass defense. Bloody annoying at the time but you still have to admire the move. They did more damage by NOT attacking than they would have by attacking. They could do the same thing tonight or they could raid. Either way, we can hardly send them back until Washington arrives on scene. Crevah, annoying rittah yerrow baaahstards.

There were some desultory Heren raids on the guys at Horycrappo-jima but they were driven off by our small LRCAP of P-38's flying from Batan Is. An interesting aspect of game mechanics is you can't damage an airfield before it is built.

Burma: You remember the "house of cards" hypothesis? Well, it isn't right. Recon by 12 lbr near Prome.

Ground combat at 55,51 (near Prome)

Allied Bombardment attack

Attacking force 1260 troops, 76 guns, 100 vehicles, Assault Value = 539

Defending force 25466 troops, 307 guns, 753 vehicles, Assault Value = 898

Allied ground losses:
Guns lost 2 (1 destroyed, 1 disabled)
Vehicles lost 1 (1 destroyed, 0 disabled)

Assaulting units:
20th Indian Division
26th Indian Brigade
9th Australian Division
6th Australian Div /5
2/11th Field Regiment
1st Medium Regiment
3rd (Special Force) Division
2/13th Field Regiment
18th British Div /5

Defending units:
21st Division
1st Tank Division
2nd RTA/B Division
1st RF Gun Battalion
15th Army
55th Mountain Gun Regiment

My recollection is 1st Tank Division was bloodied already somewhere but whenever you get the "friendly fire" casualties from a bombardment it means any attack there will fail in my experience.

Thats good isn't it - they blast down trees and uproot Tarro plants so the SeaBees don't have to, speeding up construction. Also the HOA and environmentalists can harass the LYBs and not our guys. It's a win/win

**********Front door of German Cultural Center, Miyako(Horycrappo)-jima, May 19************

Mr. Dewey, Esq: Good morning madam, I am with the firm of Dewey, Cheatham & Howe <hands her his card>. We are representing a large number of the residents here in a tort action to recover losses sustained in aerial attacks. I notice you have some roof damage.

Frau Bluher: But the Japanese have no money. They live on dried fish heads unt seaveed. Ve haven't had a decent schnitzel here in 2 years.

Mr. Dewey, Esq: Quite so, but you misunderstand. This is an anti-aircraft defense malpractice claim.

You missed a prime opportunity there, Cap'n. The old "I haven't had a bite in days..." gag oughta still go over well on Haha-jima's circuit.

*******Officer's quarters, 7th FS (P-38G), Batan Is., May 19*******

Lt. Nichols: Let me get this straight. We take off and head toward Miyako-jima but we really patrol over Ishigaki? And we do this for a week?

Young man in fine linen slacks: Precisely!

Lt. Nichols: And we get a percentage of this...what did you call it?

Young man in fine linen slacks: A shopping mall. On Miyako-jima. Bavarian themed.

Lt. Nichols: What I don't get is how can everyone get a 25% share? There are 25 pilots in the squadron.

Young man in fine linen slacks: You're first in, Lt. Be sure not to mention that.

P-47 losses over Takao were worse than I thought. It was a stupid idea. I blame Sister Maria Elena, my 2nd grade teacher. She told us we could do "anything we set our minds to". Phhht. That's what I get for listening to a penguin.

Now sun come up. D'oh.

Lt. JG Perry is a bit too aggressive. He steers his sheep right under the guns of a WJD battlecruiser. The FOW report is a bit hyperbolic. It's 500 men of 6th SeaBees. Worst job you can get in May 1943(c).
