ORIGINAL: Ron Saueracker Bummerama! LOL Gonna have to wait for AE 2!! How's life in Chile JWE? Dude … if you only knew. It is kinda like the US in 1900, but with all the modern bells and whistles. Northern Patagonia is .. pastoral. I have a broadband connection, an International cellphone, for half of a US local landline, and a satellite receiver. Also have a horse. My place is some 16 odd kms outside of Puerto Varas, on Route 225. Everybody owns a car of course (of one sort or another), but if you just want to mosey over to the neighbors for dinner or a friendly chat over a bottle of vino tinto, you saddle up and ride. Even M’Cools, the Irish pub in Varas, has a hitching post outside, and the local Eddie Bauer store has a blacksmith out back. Nobody I know has a lawnmower. The Alfieris, who live behind my property, keep goats and sheep, and since I’m not living there at the moment, their little animals get some free range. You have no idea how beautiful a lawn can look without a flock of sheep and goat caretakers (but take care of plantings, they are hungry little creatures). I’m not quite a Chilean yet. Have to stay in the US for a while. Mom is struggling with Obamacare as it is. She is 87, stroked out, and on top of the “death panel” list. But, I’m kinda thinking she ought to stay and get the bennys, until it’s time. After that, we are Chilean. [ed] I get down there at least once a year, twice if I can swing it.
