Hm...when I thought about Grigsby's old 'Warship' I remember that ships could collide in that game!
They can't do that in UV....)
It didn't happen that often, but the Japs did it now and then ;)
At Midway 2 CA's collided and at Leyte they also ran into eachother.

So is it an idea to incorporate ship collisions? Ships under fire or air attack would manouver wildly and sometimes collide....

Should be dependent on the Admirals administravtive rating i would think. Don't know if it's modled in the game (it should!), but one of the reasons you may may not have seen it is that human players usually have the highest rated leaders in charge of their TF.

Just a guess...

Did you know that in the two collisions mentioned by PzB the same ship was involved? Heavy cruiser MOGAMI. Just bad luck, or some dudhead on board...

I did some research and there were dozens of collisions on both sides!

Take a look at this link
http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/USN/USN-Chron/USN-Chron-1942.html

If you search for 'collisions' you'll find plenty!

January 15, Thu.
Atlantic
Storm with wind velocity of more than 80 knots and gusts of over 100 knots hits Hvalfjordur, Iceland; heavy cruiser Wichita (CA-45) is damaged in collisions with U.S. freighter West Nohno and British trawler HMS Ebor Wyke, and in grounding near Hrafneyri light.

January 22, Thu.
Destroyers Gridley (DD-380) and Fanning (DD-385) are damaged in collision 150 miles northwest of American Samoa as TF 8 proceeds toward the Marshalls and Gilberts.

February 7, Sat.
Japanese submarines RO-61 and RO-62 are damaged in collision, Kwajalein atoll.

October 27, Tue.
Battleship South Dakota (BB-57) and destroyer Mahan (DD-364) are damaged in collision while retiring from the Battle of Santa Cruz.

So to make UV and perhaps WITP - even more realistic I'd like to see it incorporated.
A collision claxon could ring and a ship damage report would be logged.

Several factors could count for/against collision:
Weather
TF commander
Ship captains
State of ship
Under attack

What IS the administration rating used for anyway? I always assumed it was the chance of getting spare parts or replacement planes, or stuff like that. You know, being able to fill out the right forms and stuff.
