Voodoo Chile - Jimi Hendrix

O.K. That's a tricky one. Hendrix released Voodoo Chile as a 15 minute long blues jam on Electric Ladyland.

Voodoo Chile

Then there was the more popular Voodoo Child (Slight Return) that was released as a single after his death. It is a shorter (5 minutes) psyc rock reprise of the original Voodoo Chile.

Voodoo Child (Slight Return)

It is the more popular one and covered more by guys like SRV and this guy,

Big Jim Richter

Voodoo Child (slight Return) on the mandolin

Jim admits he is not a singer but did so to give the song some reference. This boy can jam a mandolin, not an easy instrument to get certain sounds. Check it out.

Wow wow wow

Apologies if anyone has mentioned this lady before but this young Swede was one of two supporting Peter Gabriel on his SO tour. What an astoundingly beautiful voice.

Out of interest, did anybody listen to this track and the ball-bouncingly beautiful voice of Jennie Abrahamson?

Yes. I did listen to it and I liked it.

For some reason I did not mention it. I am sorry for that.

Oh man, I remember buying that album when it came out and just knew it would be his last. The man in black definitely picked some great tunes for his swan song.

Victory In Jesus

and lest we seem too Righteous I offer up

Pantera - Electric Funeral

“I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.” Albert Einstein

What the hey? Might as well combine the two; Rock and Roll and Gospel

Grand Funk - I Can Feel Him In The Morning

ps.. None of these top 20. I just cant peg those down.

For my fourth, this is one of my favourite songs from one of one of my favourite albums - What We Did on our Holidays.

Fairport Convention - Fotheringay

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbnLVvAJrec

And as a bonus track, from the same album, I give you:

Fariport Convention - The Lord is in This Place .. How Dreadful is This Place

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1yPnLIwIA1E

Best wishes,
Steve

PS. Missouri_Rebel, with so much good music around trying to find an all-time top 20 is next to impossible.

Thank you. Enjoyed that first song quite a bit. These hills and woods are filled with Scott Irish descendants whose music carries on to this day in this tradition, morphed sometimes into bluegrass mix. It lives on, and on, and on. As the facade of civilization continues to crumble, these are the places that will form a future cornerstone. Cafe Mocha Latte filled Styrofoam cut by a soft, male manicured hand ? No. A calloused hand slow smoking a freshly butchered hog in a stone and mud smokehouse for days on end? Yes. One talent a novelty, the other a means of survival. I've cast my lot already.

I am with you on that one.

For my fifth choice I submit a singer/songwriter who manages to capture both light and the dark.

Paul Simon - Rene and Georgette Magritte With Their Dog After The War

A country folk song about a Veteran coming back an addict.

Pretty morbid but good.

So onto 8/20. Early 80's new romantic and synth pop will always be my favourite period. There are so many contenders for the 2-3 maximum slots available.

This song though has remained near the top of my playlist continuously since it first graced my earbuds. Stonkingly brilliant, incredibly sad, its:

Soft Cell - Say Hello, Wave Goodbye

Saw by chance that Blutengel released an album in February. I previewed the album on itunes but apart from the opening track, I didn't think too much of it. Until I came across this one. Absolutely beautiful!!!!

Re classical - what shall we do with symphonys? It seems a bit unfair to be allowed a whole symphony when a pop song is circa 5 mins? Should we limit to movements?
