ORIGINAL: capex Hi all, I was playng WIF ten years ago, so i have some memory about the rules. Now, I just want to play at MWiF, here the question: wich is the best way to approach the aknoweledgement of the rules? I start simply reading manual 1, with a Lot of very useful suggestion how manage the game, but one must understand before the framework and some details of the rules (the core, at least). We have also very useful tool like tutorial, video and so on, but in your opinion, where start and how to go on? I have in my mind the very useful "learn to play Advance squad Leader in 10 steps..." Thanks all Cpx Hi capex Hi Deetslayer I am going to make a few suggestion for you considerations. 1- Dive into the game the rules coded by Steve will not allow you to make any mistakes. 2- Do the fast start Barbarossa first but a warning to you. The first chance you get after starting the game is to do a "save game as" call it Barbarossa 1941, call it Barbarossa xxx, call it "just testing" then everytime you play use those game saves not fast start any more. Players have already overwritten fast start by accident or so I have heard that. Could be wrong. In Barbarossa do land attacks start with one German infantry or Panzer against one or two Russians in a hex, to do so just slide the attacking unit onto the object hex and look at the gray line and see what the odds are then slide the next attacking unit onto the hex and watch the odds change. When the program calls for ground support throw in a few Stukas to aid the ground forces. When I joined the beta team over a year ago I became very smug when I felt they needed a good sharp old time computer war game player to test MWIF. What I found out later was that they needed a total noobie to test the game the reason being if a newbie can play this game anybody can, needles to say the ego was severly damaged. The good that you can take from that is that I do not know the rules but I can play this game even if I learned it by osmosis, is there a better way? I am not saying in any way to not read the rule books just do both. Experienced board game players have become rusty from not playing. EG: You are invading an island in the Pacific and you do evething right, the invasion forces are in the right seabox loaded on their transports and you go to invade and you get an x over the hex your invading which means that hex cannot be invaded and you get upset and blame the program or whoever or whatever for your ills and woes, and bingo a light goes off about past board games and you realize that there is a storm in the landing area or you used up all your land move and you must have land moves left and no storm in the area to be able to invade, on and on. If you have any particular question you want to ask I will be glad to help if it is a program malfunction then that is above my pay grade Bo
