Hi m8,

I'm running it on a basically 5 year old machine @ 2560x1600 with ZERO problems and excellent responsiveness. Well, except NetPlay which is experiencing some issues at the moment, but that's a separate issue.

CPU: Intel 2 Quad Core 6600 @ 2.40ghz
FSB: 266.7mhz
GPU: GeForce GTX 650
SysMem: 4GB
OS: WinXP SP3

Game runs like a dream. It also happens to be the best strategic level WW2 game I've seen :)

Complicated!  Maybe you'll breeze thru it but for me, its a fight.  Come close to hanging it up more than once....the only thing that keeps me going is the $108.00 total price tag/w shipping.  Excellent game.  But you better be committed.

I'm not a current grognard, although would certainly say I knew the game well back in the mid/late 90's, so trust my views are welcome here.

Views on the game?

Overall I think Steve has done a brilliant job in bringing the board game, faithfully, to the computer. Outstanding.

The game, with the map as the centre piece, looks fantastic.

The game still plays like the board game did - that is no mean achievement. There are a few detail/cosmetic things that I would like to alter obviously - nothing is perfect in life - but from what I can see so far (almost a year into Global War) there are absolutely no showstoppers. I am ENJOYING playing and getting to know the game again + getting up to speed with the numerous rule and counter changes since the 5th Edition.

As a player of the boardgame you could, with your opponents consent, do a few things outside of the strict order of play. For obvious reasons that is not possible with the computer. This adds a layer of extra care required when planning your turns, but WIF was always a game that needed appropriate thought put into every decision, every move anyway, so that will not be too much of an issue.

This is money truly well spent. I will be playing this for many, many years to come.

I used to play WiF back in the 90's and early 2000's. I played both the 1st edition and the Deluxe edition that included Ships in Flames, Carriers in Flames, Pilots in Flames. So far, I'm finding the computer version to be very faithful to the board game and am loving the fact that I don't have to allocate several square meters of living space for several months to complete a game.

The only thing I'm missing just now are the two 'one board' missions: Fascist Tide and Day of Infamy. Even with the computer version, I'm often in a hurry to get around to resoving the fighting in Russia, North Africa without having to go off to fight in China, or the other way round. These will appear in the game sometime soon. The sooner the better for me.

Yesteerday and today, I've been playing the Barbarossa scenario and it's every bit just as good an experience to play as it was playing the board version. Once I've played around with that scenario a few times, I'll move on to the Guadalcanal.

This is a game I know I'll still be playing in years to come.
