Hi, I don't have any of these BA games, but a friend has recommended they are pretty good. Could you let me know:

1. If I'm starting from scratch is there a consolidated game to buy, or do I have to buy the base game and then various add-ons?
2. Does it have good replay value?
3. How many multi-player games are there, and is this PBEM, play on-line, or play via server like some of the other slitherine games?
4. What would you say are the best features of the game?

Thanks in advance for any responses.

Cheers

You just need the base game to start and then the add ons add more scenarios so try it out before you grab them.

Single player has some replay but the majority of replay is in the multiplayer.

It uses our server based PBEM++ system which has tens of thousands of games active. People prefer to accept than issue challenges so if you cant see any available try posting your own and it will be snapped up in minutes.

I'll leave others to discuss the best features but I love the combat model, UI and multiplayer :)

Thanks Iain, I've taken the plunge and bought BA and one of the expansion packs. However, seems I've had the same problem I had with another matrix game last year where it downloads fine but then can't be found anywhere on the PC. I've bought the boxed version too so I think it will be ok in the end.

By the way, you aren't the same Iain McNeil that I used to see at the Reigate club from time to time are you?

Cheers

Yes I'm the same one :) Used to go every week for many years but not had time to play in the decade really :(

It sounds like your virus checker is causing the problem so you may have to disable it while downloading.

Thanks, I think that may have been the problem last time, will have another go tonight.

Yes, I only went there briefly about 20yrs ago, and then moved to the other side of London which made things a little difficult logistically. Looks like you have done very well with Slitherine, well done.

Well I bought a couple of the games, and they're good fun. I'm thinking of getting a couple more. I bought the first ones from US I think, is there any problem with me getting these from the UK Slitherine site in future or are they slightly different versions?

We use the same payment system, installers and warehouse so it doesn't matter where you buy from.

Great thanks Iain. Really enjoyable game (I've bought a couple of them so far, and I'm sure I'll look to getting some more in time). SSG is my favourite series, but I sense that's reached the end of the line in terms of new releases, but although these feel less historically accurate at the battle level (at least the campaigns do) they are really good fun to play.
