There is one miserable raid over Naha. They are ready for us with hotshot Tojo jockeys.

The B-24's, which would have prevailed, sit at Aparri. June 20 is another union holiday.
Turns out it's St. Adalbert of Magdeburg Day. He was the Apostle of the Slavs.
Turns out there is a Ukranian kid on the negotiating committee for the USAAF Pilots Union.

Go figure.

Afternoon Air attack on Naha , at 95,66

Weather in hex: Moderate rain

Raid detected at 34 NM, estimated altitude 16,000 feet.
Estimated time to target is 10 minutes

Japanese aircraft
Ki-44-IIa Tojo x 13

Allied aircraft
Mitchell II x 7
P-40K Warhawk x 12
F6F-3 Hellcat x 18

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-44-IIa Tojo: 1 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
Mitchell II: 5 damaged
P-40K Warhawk: 4 destroyed
F6F-3 Hellcat: 3 destroyed

Airbase hits 1
Runway hits 1

I suppose the good news is no disaster befell our carrier or the transports.

Rook rike we have to send North Carolina back in tonight to bombard Naha. That means one-ah ress BB on station for randing.
I hope burrdozer drivers at Naha run out-ah amphetamines soon.

********Funauke Fortress, Ishigake, June 20, 1943(c)************

Gen. Yamashita: ...Seattle..Boeing prant. B-24's kirring us.

Man in fine linen slacks <nearly speechless..but recovers quickly> You want US to arrange to bomb the Boeing plant in Seattle?

Gen. Yamashita: Yes, that-ah about size of it.

Hirsute young man Boeing doesn't even make the..<he is kicked hard under the table>..Ouch!

Man in fine linen slacks Look, Tomoyuki-san, even if this works, it won't stop the war.

Gen. Yamashita: Hai, but make war rast ronger. American-mens get tired.

Man in fine linen slacks <suddenly sit upright, invigorated by opportunity> LONGER! Tomoyuki-san, you are a genius.
Think of the business opportunities. Hell, we could make a mint shorting Boeing stock.
<turns to hirsute man> Do we know anyone?

Hirsute young man Well, I know a guy in the training command at Pendleton, Oregon. He thinks I'm dead but they probably have 3 or 4 dozen B-18's. I think they could reach Seattle. But what about the employees at the plant?

Man in fine linen slacks We go at night!

Hirsute young man At night!? Hell, they'd be lucky to...<is kicked hard again under the table>..OUCH!

Gen. Yamashita: Sprendid!

Happy 2014 to all (unless you are one of those luddites not on the Gregorian calendar).

Also, I sincerely hope none of you are among the idiots who bought ecotourism tickets to study the melting Antarctic sea ice and then got stuck in an ice pack in the middle of the Antarctic summer.

If you are, I sincerely hope you brought winterized Quonset huts.

Operation Acapulco Gold: Remember how the naysayers predicted the plan wouldn't work right? Well, it was absolutely prescient!

The transports I think got into a recursive "follow task force" cruster **** and drove around in circles for half a day. They are still 40 mi SE of Batan Is.

D-Day will slip a day. Both Naha and Daito Shoto airfields are now fully operational again. I think the Japan-mens high command spiked the Kool-aide because Japan-mens engineers working
rike fricking Oriental beavers. Seems like a week ago every building on Okinawa was on fire.

North Carolina can't safely reach Naha tonight so that will be shelved for the next night.

I think perhaps the bombers at Aparri won't attack Naha because of the Tojos so we sweep the place with P-47's and Corsairs today.

Operation Sticky Green

Shemya up to level 4.3. The field should be level 5 by the time of the attack. That will allow a few days of heavy bomber raids on PJ when the operation starts.

AP's still haven't arrived in Seattle so still a few more days till loading starts.

B-25's and one squadron of P-47's and some P-38's ready to reinforce if we capture a base.

ALSP is prepping for a landing at Moulmein. Looks to be 11th (East African) Div and the veteran 5th Indian Div. East Africa Div is nearing Diego Garcia but their morale is in the crapper.

They will probably need to disembark and rest.

JJ have switched the port at which they unload TK's from Borneo and Palembang.

First it was HK, then Saigon...now Cam Ranh Bay. The path to HK is too dangerous now. They switched from Saigon when we parked subs in the shallow water and they spotted them.
Last turn we sank a a big 32 pt TK near Cam Ranh Bay.

Well, look at it this way. Inside of 1 week they have Christmas Eve, Christmas, Boxing Day (which I take it somehow involves Premier League matches and drinking), then New Years Eve and New Year Day.

That is a good way to get tennis elbow if you don't stay in shape.

Oh, yeah...and it rains all the time.

Exactly, you don't see those Kenyan marathon runners siting on their butts playing video games all year. Conditioning is key.

I am sure they are doing their research before they go on a marathon. Read down the article below about the 16 YO girl from Nigeria who decided to go to Canada for H.S. ( Exchange student?)

Sounds a lot closer than that. It sounds like my neighbor with the $10K mailbox. His divorce is final so the imprisonment is over now.

Speaking of divorce, SG and I went down to Dana Point to see a band the Pocahantas Girl wanted us to see. We were late because SG had to work the hospital. She apologized to PG.

SG: Sorry we're late.

FAM: Hey, somebody has to work.

PG: Not me. (She has a big house with no mortgage and gets $15K a month tax free alimony and child support. I had to admit she was correct in her claim.)

You should try fighting a house fire at that temp, or believe it or not a compost heap/wildland fire. -41 F with a nice insulating layer of snow will allow the heat to build up. Gear, hoses, trucks all will freeze to you (there are some great pics of trucks iced up when someone decides a monitor is a good idea). Our SOP is to bring in a school bus to thaw your crews out so you can get the breather masks off - Ambulances fill up too fast. Single car wrecks at those temps have a higher percentage of fatalities because they are less likely to get reported (OnStar is a help with this) and even break downs can be fatal (had rancher friends whose truck broke down between Whitlash MT and Kevin, MT - he froze to death trying to walk for help, she died in the truck). If you mess up you can freeze your truck solid, split all the lines, valves, and wreck pumps. Worst is freezing hose to the street - it stays there (two months was the local record) till the thaw and everyone gets an extra speed bump and a reminder that you are an idiot.
