I noticed that the Keskudon Special Government: Way of Darkness option doesn't actually appear as an option when setting up your empire. I have the newest version of the game and am not running any other mods. Anyone else notice this?

There has only been 1 entry for the design a race competition so far, but it's a great one, would love to see if anyone else has any ideas before I release the Universe version.

Yes there is a development version that adds 2 new races including one designed and submitted to me by PrismaticFlux. There is a bunch of optimizations and improvements.
I wont say too much as I feel it's not my place to say the features that would reveal secrets about Universe but expect a much improved version of what you have for the Shadows version. I have still kept the remit of Extended being an 'unofficial expansion', everything that is vanilla is still in there, I have not changed the base game experience outside of race artwork, but the new races are now much more unique than they were before.

I essentially never install mods, but I made an exception for this one. The new races are really cool, and I love all of the artwork, including the replacement art for the original races. The style is awesome.

Can't wait to see what's in store with Universe!

Thank You Haree, I just started playing DW about 3 months ago and am just now discovering your incredible mod.

I do have one request, maybe I am missing something. Is it possible to modify the help files to include all the new races? I installed per the instructions but seem to have only the original races in the help file.

Let me know if there is an easy way to fix this. Thanks again!

AFAIK you cannot edit the galactopedia entries. It has been the only flaw in the mod (apart from napoar being terrible! ) It seems reasonable to assume that Universe will allow us to incorporate those help files.

Yeah this is a big deal.Not having race description hurts mods like these a lot.

On the contrary, I believe with appropriate software you ARE able to edit Galactopedia (being a HTML Help file). Someone already did it for a mod.

But if that was changed recently, I might be mistaken!

WA-OW! I am a french student, who just discovered the game two weeks ago, and this mod that some french players love a lot. I must congratulate you for the work, it seems to be a very good mod, the new races are so fantastic, previously that I never know which to choose, now I'm completely in love with several new!

You shouldn't have to download any download manager, be careful you aren't being tricked by some advert pretending you need to click it to download. You should be able to click to download directly.

Assuming you're referring to the final image, that is a mechanoid race, but it doesn't seem to be a playable race (i.e. only the AI can play it). I believe the race could be made playable by a simply amendment to a the race's txt file, but I don't know how balanced the race is for a human player. There is, of course, a playable cybernetic race, called the Napoar.

No doubt Haree will give you more specifics, as he's still active on these boards.

Napoar, Ortain and Lemeresh are the playable mechanoid races in this mod (Lemeresh are suggested to be kept as an AI-race though). They are all listed in Harees description on page 1 with details.

If you are reffering to the last race shown in the opening picture with many races on it... the agressive looking mechanoid... that is the new image of the Ancient Guardians.

Features of Distant Worlds Extended Universe

2 new Avian races.

The Yl'ta

Designed by PrismaticFlux.

The Yl'ta are an extremely cautious, slightly aggressive race. The Yl'ta get lower trade income than other races but have extremely good ships and get very high bonuses for certain rare luxury resources. They seek to explore the galaxy, to collect it's history and rarities.

The Banoserit


The Banoserit. They have exceptionally good eyes, and a large part of their brain is used for their optical sensory input. They can use this ability with some research to scan space at long range, beating other races Long Range scanners by far. The Banoserit will be able to see ship movements much further around their empire. The Banoserit also have their own government type, Authoritarion Eugenics. It is acceptable in Banoserit culture to remove unbeneficial genes from the gene pool and to encourage the breeding of beneficial genes. This government type gives very good bonuses however the population will expect a very high reputation to be held by the empire as they hold their government's behaviour to a high standard.

Distant Worlds Extended Universe also introduces many other unique racial technologies that further define different play styles and differences in enemy empires. There is 2 new unique to 2 races weapon types with their own art work and in one case sound effect.

The Galactopedia has been updated with all the additions so the experience is as well integrated as the base game.

Technolgoy items that are researched for wonders that can only be built by 1 empire now also give a small bonus so they aren't completely useless if you are too late.

The mod has also received many hours of testing for balance and playability.

Das and Larry Monte have been given preview versions as they have shown interest in doing a Let's Play or preview of the mod, and I have enjoyed their videos immensely in the past.
