And, I am a born and raised Yankee from Western NY (Home of 150" of snow a year). I stay away from grocery stores during such times. I just make sure I have a weeks worth of food in the house. In Western NY in the winter we always kept 2-3 weeks of food in the house, as you could get snowed in, out in the country, for a week or more.

Got home on Friday to discover the furnace not working. Twenty hours and $760 later, back on line. Fortunately, the weather outside was a balmy 22F. Discovered sleeping with a Great Dane in the bed is no fun. Good news, we found out he can wear my sweat shirt.

Louisvillan - no damage to the structure downstairs, I hope! Give Ben my best. He really is a sweetheart.

The structure is designed for furnace access. Takes just 15 minutes to open. Fortunately, it was just the blower motor that needed replacement. Ben is sweet, but I'm happier with him sleeping on the couch.

Having the furnace go out in late January is never good. Glad you got it back up and running quickly!

Here at the Defense Academy there are quite a lot of civilian students studying political science alongside all the different military courses.

There is, of course, quite a lot of good natured and friendly taunts exchanged between the military and the civilian sides. Today, this showed up at one of the info boards. It thought it was quite funny so I thought I would share;

Got up, fired up the coffee pot...forgot to put in coffee

Went to the can to take care of business...chain on the tank broke

Went out to fire up the truck to go to work...ripped the drivers side wiper

Drive to work, Mag-Chloride on the roads, no wipers worth a darn, walk in the door....boss is mad because I'm 5 min late

Sit down at my desk to 5 voice mails, a dispatch I set up 2 weeks ago last night went south...the tech never ordered the parts

Go to the can at work...out of service

No coffee at work... not that it matters with no functioning toilet within running distance

And I get an email telling me that I am being migrated to WIN 7 "sometime in the next 24 hours"...and I need to back up EVERYTHING because they are not sure what data will be impacted

We're on the line between a predicted 3-6 and 5-10 inches of snow for this afternoon and tonight. Supposed to start around noon here. Party preparations are well underway!

Dag, Glen! Feels like a Monday, huh?

It could be worse. I'm being switched from Windows 7 (which I love) to Windows 8 sometime in the next few weeks. Once you get past the migration data issues, you'll love Windows 7.

Maybe so, but just the idea that "we have no idea what we are doing" from my supposed IT support is disquieting.

You could use your pool as curling rink. 40 lb. stones + schnapps = fun

Schani, if we get a decent amount of snow, I'm considering jumping in again. It's still thawed, and the pumps run when it gets below 34 to keep the pipes from freezing up.

Good cold morning. Wind chill this morning only down to 0. So, I am not complaining too much. Tonight and early tomorrow morning will be different. Going into single digits.

Before you do, throw in a curling stone to make sure. Take a shot of Goldschlager and then jump in.

Well, it could be worse, look at Atlanta...

I was wrong about what our low would be this morning... It wasn't single digits. It was negative single digits! Brrr....

It is still a great sunny morning in the Tennessee Mid-State! (Thinking about how bad things are in Atlanta)

It's a beautiful, working from home morning here in NC. We ended up with right around 3 inches of snow and single digit lows tonight will likely mean a 3rd day in a row off school for the kids tomorrow. My lovely bride was already scheduled off today, so even getting some work done it feels like a party day!

Could be worse. Rodney Dangerfield said "This morning I picked up my briefcase and the handle fell off. I went to open the front door and the doorknob came off in my hand. I'm afraid to go to the bathroom!"

Single digit above/below zero lows. kids, three days off from school. Loved Alabama yesterday; everyone hit the panic button at noon, massive traffic jams.
That's rich. You guys crack me up.
