I just finished Canary's cage...

I wiped out everything the enemy had except some aifield buildings (just too many to deal with) with minimal losses (3 F18s and 3 Harriers in combat and 4 other aircraft that run out of fuel when on patrol missions) put all my landing craft in place, got the message that landing was succesfu; and enemy sued for peace and at the end got ZERO points!

Why?

Also, I did not use the recon unit. I know I am ordered to land it at some point but I have no idea how to do that. It sits somewhere in Egypt (I assume it is meant to teleport when I do something).

Did you land your amphibious forces in Tenerife Island?

I am not sure what you mean. I launched all the landing craft and had them for an hour or so inside the landing zone area and got the message that said something to the effect of they landed, at which point the scenario ended, but I did not do anything with the recon unit as I did not know how to land that one.

Hi Shemar,

Back in December I played and posted this:

"While playing Canary Cage, I finally got air superiority, avoided all the enemy subs, sunk their ships and knocked out all enemy positions, got my Ships to their designation with plenty of time to spare for the scenario, yet somehow when I arrived Scoring said "MAJOR DEFEAT" Don't see anything in the briefing that says I was to do anything more than I did. I did change the routes of the two groups but are you not allowed to do that? Very Curious!"

There must be some aspect in the briefing we both missed although I must offer congrats as at least you WON

BTW, I did successfully land the recon team by sub so perhaps that may not be the issue. There must be some obscure or arcane reference I must have missed?

How by sub? Do you just get the sub within some designated area? I have an early enough save to try that.

Interestingly enough I did not get a defeat message, just plain zero points!

I guess I will have to learn to use the scenario editor and try to see what is going on!

As you play the scenario a message pops up ordering you to send the Tramonta (sp?) with the recon team to a specific location. After arriving there and waiting for a bit, you get a follow up message stating the "Recon team has landed" and you can then send your sub elsewhere.

Vis a vis scenario editor, I had to use it to find out why my Alpha force suddenly began being attacked despite all the diesel subs screening it to the south and found I missed one and that is why I changed the route of the two groups and once I did suddenly I got a major defeat. Guess you cant change the groups waypoints.

Thanks for the tip on the recon team. I will try it.

I changed the course of the two naval groups multiple times and never got a defeat message. One enemy sub did get through my screen and almost within shot of my carrier, but fortunately was discovered by the last line of defense and quickly detsroyed by ASW helos.

My subs themselves did not do much against enemy subs, they were more useful as ESM platforms and in killing the individual surface units close to the target islands. I dealt with enemy subs by setting up ASW patrols with helicopters in front of my naval groups.

Apparently, the landing ships must enter the landing zone and then lunch the smaller landing craft that must then reach the smaller landing area. Additionally the landing zone Ref points are set in the sequence 2134 instead of 1234 which, based on how the graphic displays for mission areas, would only consider the two triagles between 213 and 134 as 'active area' and not the entire area.

Not sure exactly how scoring works but just getting the landing craft to their final destibation nets a victory message but with zero points.

This is a great scenario but it is let down by unclear objectives and questionable scoring. For example I remember being told to land the recon unit but I am pretty sure I was never told how to do that (get the submarine within the specific area).

Funny, its in my community folder.

It's in both folders for me...not sure why. Couldn't be pilot error...
