Off topic: So I open my email looking for my turn, always labelled PBEM and find two messages so labelled: The first from Tiemanj, and the second from my oldest boy, er young man.

He is in his final year at West Point, a certified land lubber, a firstie in their parlance, and he declines the chance to play WITP AE as it is too complicated , but here btw is the first turn of WITE. In which he, as the Germans, have cut off Riga, and made a fairly large pocket in the South, and shot down a respectable 2000+ planes and other pockets.

Now this kid cut his teeth on wargames...played ASL since he was 10, and all the great AH Classics -- so how he can feel that WITP AE is more complicated than WITE is beyond me...but it looks like I will be picking up the mantle of the Stalin and slugging it out across Russia.

Good times.

I think the Allies will strike here in the Marshalls again. The islands are lightly held, and inviting. He had success here previously, and will look to duplicate it.

Soon, the entire carrier arm of the IJN will be in port near Truk...while I hope the Allies think they are in either the North or DEI theaters...but given the Allied sigint that is a fragile hope.

This torpedo hit on the Colorado was a critical hit...if that means anything with FOW on.

It might mean she's got 30-some flooding instead of 10-15. Enough to send her to the yards for a couple months.

Hm, yard time eh? I rather hope he strays within Betty range. Surely they were looking for a surface engagement or a bombard mission. He will have his chance since Task Force Atago is back to bombarding his forces, while the CLs & Destroyers will be protecting Paramushiro. I believe my commanding officers are high naval medium aggressiveness....or at least I hope they are. Fuso and Ise are a day away and should be in position tomorrow to help either bombard or engage as well as Shokaku who never got a chance to head back to Truk after replenishing at Kushiro.

The Helens on Paramushiro are set to Naval attack with A6M3 escorts, but it is really a nuisance attack because their naval skills are very low. I set the attack altitude high.

Here are the air losses for the day. I am winning the air war by being absent. Basically, I am trying to avoid his planes except for bases I absolutely have to protect where I have massed my fighters, or what is left of them.

I still don't produce many planes and have several sentais of only a handful of planes...just not willing to spend the HI on bad air frames even for training purposes.

My R&D is starting to bear fruit with advances, hard not to with a cumulative size 380 A6M5c factory and 290 Oscar IV!

Allies retreat in the North and a CV shows up...

Quiet elsewhere -- except for IJN subs that sink another xakl near Rangoon, and hit two cargo ships in Northern Oz.

Dili Captured.

I was going to say "Are you sure it's a CV with those sighted plane numbers?", because it looks more like 2x CVE to me...and then I remembered that his SBD-3 pools are probably really hurting.

It it tempting to send the KB up north and try to bag a carrier or two, especially with his depleted bombers...

New submarine tactics are starting to pay off. The Allies have some really well trained air groups at ASW -- so loitering is a death sentence. But running into and out of his ports are getting results so far. I was hoping to bag a tanker there in Broome.

I have had to downgrade some of my float planes on subs since the previous ruler had upgraded them to Jakes.

Plane production for the September so far. One consequence of the Allied push in the north, is that I turned on production of the A6M2 and A6M3 for a few days which will delay my achieving 500 engines for a few more days. My loose goal is 500 Ha-35 engines by the end of the month and I am over 300 now.

Allies create a bunch of 2 ship PT boat task forces. In 6 engagements IJN CL task force sinks 2 damages 2.

Allied CV and BB are loitering to the east.

On the Burma front Allied planes rule the skies everywhere but Magwe.

I am going to try and reverse one of the Allied CAP traps, and I hope my Oscars are up to the task. I am sweeping over his troops south of Imphal with 65 Oscars. We will see what happens.

In addition, The Allies have a dozen or so British torpedo bombers working out of Port Blair...I will run a couple of destroyers near to provoke an attack and LRCAP the destroyers with Zeroes.

Hopefully, if everything works, I can bloody the Allied Air Force a little on the Burma front.

A total of three bombardments hit the Yanks, and then the Bettys come in on the off chance Long Island was still alive. About 110 Bettys hit the port.

Interesting that the Bettys were on a primary Naval Strike mission, and secondary port strike. Range 17. Range to lead Yankee carrier groups 18.

No Air traps worked today, but the submarines do well getting 4 xAKs and 2 xAKLs in the Burma region.

On Java, the end is nigh for Soerabaja's defenders.

And finally, here are the results of bombarding Tjilatjap again. My ships always seem to target the airport...I am not complaining for now, because there is no other way I can hurt Lightnings.

Allies have moved their fighters back here from Soerabaja either trying to trap me or because of lack of supply or impending doom of Soerabaja. Or all three .

I hope I can get Soerababja quickly, will deliberate attack in a couple of days when all the Infantry Divisions get there -- I have an HQ with 76% prep. There are still 16 ships in port which would get scuttled including some troublesome CAs and CLs.

The big picture in Burma. I had to fly 50 zeroes out of Magwe to Tavoy to protect 4 ART units disembarking. That leaves 160 fighters protecting Magwe, which is not a lot when you consider it has to be protected during the night too.

In a departure from conventional wisdom, I am going to produce the Nick B model with the 1% accurate cannon...I will still produce the Nick A model. All to bolster my bomber defense. You need three layers of bomber defense I think. Planes capable of fighting it out with his sweeps where Allies can have fighter escorts, planes on night duty, and planes where his bombers can reach but his fighters can't. The NickA, NickB and DinahKAI all have roles to play here.

I really wish I had the Peggy dive bomber, even with 100kg dual bombs as she would be giving me yeoman service both in the Burma theater and in the North. I have Vals, but I am hesitant to use them for fear of weakening my CV groups ultimately. Army planes however are another matter.

My plans in the North for tomorrow...but what will the Allies do? As far as I can tell there are no cargo or transports in his first three task forces.

I am looking to get a night long lance attack in, and failing that engage his PT boats some more.

None of my surface groups other than Atago are spotted...so I am thinking there might be some fireworks here although seeing 100+ Bettys should scare the Allies somewhat. But then again I have been repeatedly surprised by the aggressiveness of the Allies.

At Java, I think there might be a chance his 18 surface ships sprint out of Soerabaja. Surely, some of them are heavily damaged, but his Destroyers are probably in good shape.

Exciting times...

Thunderstorms and heavy rains curtail or cancel many flights. The Shokaku, although well within range, had to cancel air activities for the day as well as the air base at Paramushiro. Out of Bihore only fifty percent of the Bettys flew which means there are many fresh pilot and planes ready for tomorrow weather willing. Many pilots are lighting candles for the morrow...their headbands are lettered and morale is high.

The destroyer group wisely delays at Paramushiro rather than engage the Yankees.

Not mentioned in the previous report was a second smaller splinter strike finding the heavy Cruiser Portland and putting a torpedo into her belly.

IJN forces now in theater 1 CV, 4BBs, 2CL, 22 DD, 2 DMS plus support ships.

If only IJN high command had tasked the KB here when the Yankees were originally sighted 2 weeks ago...but who could believe the Yankees would be so bold?

I have no idea what tankers are doing in the Bay of Bengal in mid-late 1942. However, Allies show new tactics at escorting them -- probably not good against submarines however.

Six escorts probably overpower my two surface groups in the area, and I didn't not merge them, but will instead rely upon my commanders' discretion. There are some reinforcements on the way.

I got one of the cargo ships yesterday with a submarine, and my surface ships are not spotted...so there should be some havoc coming soon.

A problem:

Check Tracker. My guess is that it is flowing out, but only a small amount. I have had some of it flow out, but not all. It currently has 40k stockpiled in my game and I've held it for ~4 months... Shortly after taking it I did look and post about it in my AAR:
http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3457727&mpage=4#

Judging by that screenshot, it has since shipped out another 2k or so? (42000 - 21009) / 300 = 70 turns of production have stayed there. However, 76 in-game turns have passed. So it's shipped out another 1800.

Maybe once I take Chungking it will flow better, to Chungking? I am still dealing with some Chinese units on/around the roads near Sining and Lanchow. I suspect that what little has shipped out of Urumchi has gone to Lanchow.
