Just doing the laid back Friday. It was a great game. Gophers finally had to play real hockey game this year. Out shoot, out play and then lose by a puck just clipping the post and in with .6 seconds left, by a defenseman that hadn't had a goal all year. Luckiest goal I've ever seen. Oh, well.

Hey USS Mike,

I promise to cut your lawn or do general gardening for you if you get this place.

Don't know if it's paradise, but you can see it from there.

Maybe I'll pick that one up.

Speaking of martial arts and North Carolina...

USS Mike-the World Tang Soo Do Association convention (held every two years) will be in Greensboro this year. Mid July. I'll be bringing the boy with me and competing there.

I'll also be in a demonstration squad there too. I play the role of "shredder' from the upcoming TMNT movie.

Will you be in town?

We should be here! Sounds like an afternoon of grilling and swimming needs to be added to the trip agenda!

"Luck". Pfft... Like we were #1 in the nation by accident? Like my Faber earlier today, just keep watching, NoDak-we'll show you how it's done.

ETA: Wasn't the winning goal on a UND power play too? Smooth move on the D there, dudes.

Sure.

Okay, UND was the lowest ranked seed (#4) in the polls in the tournament and ranked #5 both polls and the #1 Goph's had their hands full. Hell other the Gothberg & Grimaldi UND doesn't really have any real standout players. At mid-season UND wasn't even ranked. I'm pleasantly surprised they made to the 'Frozen Four'. Boston College and Union are both #1 seeds from their regions. So by the same score against Boston College. Union 4, U of M....2.

I like Johnny Walker Black Label.

Yes, I like Johnny Walker Black as well. But I ain't bettin' you a bottle of that.

$20 USD cashola? Winner can buy whatever rotgut most appeals to them. No points on the game. No line. Just a straight up or down win or loss. Obviously, I'm taking the Gophers.

Still game [extends electronic hand for handshake bet]?

Went down to Billy’s Seafood today to kinda stock up. And they had … God only knows where they got them … but they had fresh crawfish. Not a lot of it, and a lot less after I saw it. Fresh crawfish is one of them things that if you have a freezer full of deer, lamb, and beef, and you see fresh crawfish … guess what’s for dinner?

Made a scampi from Emeril’s recipe. Turned the heat even lower and used fresh Italian parsley. My fingers still smell of lemon zest (I heard that was an aphrodisiac in Rome). The garlic didn’t even get brown, just translucent, and the crawfish got 2 minutes of heat. Think it was the best scampi I ever made. My GF thought so too and said; ‘since you spent all that time peeling crawfish, I guess I can peel … “ Good night, now.

Nice! Be careful of the lemon on those fingers, John!

We are hositing the Finn Nationals this weekend at Fairhope YC. Since I was a Finn Olympian, I get to ride on the committee boat. I'm wearing Des's cap. People are asking about it. I get to talk about it's significance. A lot of people don't know from Lunga Beach, or Savo Island. They don't know from whatever that Ngati Tumatauenga is Maori, and who the maori are. So I just drink my beer and sigh. I could say things, but I won't. They are missing a lot. Ciao. John

More information about the young man who's life was cut short this week (This is from the Middle Tennessee Council, BSA):

"It is with great sorrow I share with you information about a fallen member of our local Scout family: Clifton Braunwalder of Troop 538. By now you probably have heard about the accident involving Clifton on Interstate 24 Thursday. The arrangements for Clifton are as follows:

Visitation will be Monday, April 14th at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 1601 North Tennessee Blvd, from 4:00-8:00 p.m., and Rosary at 8:00 p.m. The funeral will be Tuesday, April 15th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Rose.
Under the guidance of fellow Scout parents, the Trail of Tears will host a candlelight vigil Monday, April 14, at 7:30 p.m. at St. Rose. The ceremony will begin at 8:00 p.m. after everyone arrives, and we will dismiss by 8:10. We are inviting all volunteers, Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Venturers and Explorers to attend this vigil in support of the Braunwalder family. We lost Clifton amid his daily good turn, and this vigil is small gesture to recognize his echoing example.

If families from your unit plan to attend, please come dressed in full Class A field uniform, and let Ryan know by emailing him at rvaden@mtcbsa.org. You may also email Ryan for further details.

Please keep the Braunwalders, Troop 538 and St. Rose in your prayers."

My son and I will be there.

Hory crap! What a game last night!

Some of the most riveting television I've watched in a long time. 6 goals in the first quarter alone! The final 2 minutes of the first and third quarters were brutal for the Gophers.

Hats off to a very promising underdog squad of Union for a game incredibly well played. How they've managed to put together a world-class NCAA men's hockey squad with a student body of only 2300 or so is nothing short of miraculous.

I'm glad that I didn't hear back from NoDak about acceptance of my bet too! I'd have lost that for sure. Thanks for letting me keep my money, Schani! I'll toast your health with a glass of Johnny Walker Black the next time I have some.

Speaking of RIP, I found the note that Des pinned to the hat he sent me. He worte it two months before he passed beyond. I'm still in touch with his son and let him know the wonderful things his cap does over here (when it happens ). Just thought ya'll might like to see one of Des' last notes. God bless and keep him. A true friend and one of the best of people.
