agree. 1:1 rule allows the red army to "produce" some totaly unrealistic comnbat results in 41.

In T11 and you only lost 790000 POW, that is very low number. GHC would have trouble.
In my game against Saper222, he got about 1000000 POW from the T1 Pockets alone, including the most powerful 16A.

I don't agree with you, I think vehicles are very important and try to save all of them.

Specially if you like to do a lot of conter attacks which it's expensive in vehicles.

I think you are probably right. It is usually the case that at some point during this game the Russian player has to make choices regarding industry. In my last game against BigAnorak I focused entirely on armament points. By turn 114 my production numbers were ridiculous. However, after the blizzard I had some supply problems. That is why I wanted to focus a little bit more on HI in this game. Honestly, I think nothing really matters that much unless the Russians lose a massive amount of industry.

I fully agree with you and this is one of the reasons I am doing this AAR.

But please let's wait with a general discussion regarding this rule and the combat system until the end of this AAR.

I have read your AAR. It is a very powerful and unreal opening saper222 has come up with. In my recent Axis game I diverted 1 Panzer Corps south + 1 Mot division and that is all I am willing to do. Many people will still consider this gamey.

Yes, POW number are relatively low in comparison to your game but much higher then in my last game. STEF78 continues to pocket a small number of troops every turn. I think my game play qualifies as a forward defense. Even in the south I set up defensive lines during the first couple of turns but of course all within reason.

T12 - North

The Axis units are grinding their way north. This is tricky stuff now because units can rout easily due to overstacking. No combat possible against a 61 CV stack. I could attack the regiment in swamp but I decide not to. Better to build fortifications along the Volkhov

In the center I continue to attack his flank and pull back. But I am unable to reach the rail line. I received my first four guard units. Three in this area and one at Orel.

At Tula he has assembled most of his armor from AGC. But Tula is now mostly evacuated and I retreat and set up a checkerboard defense. The Oka is a formidable obstacle and further east supply gets restricted. I abandon Orel and Kursk but leave one unit in Tula.

Also, I received a guard air base. My IL-2 are hard at work.

This is the situation at Kharkov at the beginning of the turn. A dangerous breakthrough threatening Voronezh. An entire army is pocketed. Note that the triangle on the Panzer Corps is green. He did an HQ Buildup the turn before!

Also, this was payback for last turn. He plowed through my air fields.

This is the situation after I finish moving my units. I break the pocket, rout one motorized division and decide to restrict his supply. I leave a unit in Kharkov because heavy urban hexes are formidable obstacles even when surrounded. I have to slow him down. A defensive line is set up behind the Oskol. IL-2 in Voronezh are evacuated.

In the South I attack the Axis Allies which are easy prey. My goal is to defend Stalino until I can at least evacuate all the industry. The good news is that he diverted most of his armor to Kharkov. There is really only one Corps hear which doesn't scare me that much.

Not that many battles this time because I mostly have to retreat. One of those attacks required the 1=2 rule to succeed. I was sloppy and didn't reassign a division. There were even some hasty attacks this time but only because I had lots of armor at hand.

I forgot the Crimea. 18th army retreats south but not all the way. I am just going to wait for the Romanians to stumble south. There doesn't seem to be a single German unit heading for the Crimea. Looks like a good place to make some more guard units.

I reinforce Odessa with a brigade. I tried to move an army HQ to Odessa but that doesn't work. I am not sure why.

In the North I reorganize my army. A stack of three Panzer and Motorized divisions is attacked from four sides. The attack is successful thanks to 1=2.

In the center he finally shifts his Panzers to the flank. This is what I like to see. He has to change his plans. Also, he starts splitting up motorized divisions. I assume he puts them on reserve. I stop attacking and prepare for the inevitable push north.

I don't really know what he is up to at Tula. Some Panzer Corps remain here but no major combat takes place. I simply do nothing and entrench. There is still a threat of encirclement so I leave it at a checkerboard defense and don't put any additional troops into Tula.

This is the situation in the southwest before I move my troops. The pocket from last turn has gotten bigger and Kharkov is encircled. He places 14th Panzer division in a dangerous spots next to my rifle divisions.

This is the situation in the southwest after I move my troops. I attack 14th Panzer division twice and encircle 4 armor and motorized divisions. I continue to defend the Oskol and extend the line further north.

The south now looks really good. Stalino has been evacuated. Most troops here are now in level 2 forts. I attack some Romanian units and all goes well despite a reserve activation. Also, I move 44th Army to Rostov to set up a defensive line and start digging.

I still have a lot to learn...

While attacking on earth, how can you be sure that fighters will fly with your bombers???

It is hard to comment without knowing exactly what you are doing but I think you fixed the problem yourself. The last turns your fighters were back in action.

When I play Axis I always mix bombers and fighters in the airbases. Or maybe your airbase with the fighters is too far away from the front?

23rd army is tired from last turn. Also, my opponent moves two fresh infantry divisions into the adjacent hex after combat which is very smart. I reorganize 27th army and hit a stack further south.

The situation at the beginning of the turn. A breakthrough towards Rzhev. But the city is covered and he can't really exploit anything. Also, his Panzer division is exposed. I had the foresight to move some cavalry into this area. 12th Panzer division gets surrounded and routed. Two motorized divisions in clear get pushed back. I also move in additional troops to restrict supply. 52 and 55th army are transferred by rail to the west of Moscow. They are no longer needed for the defense of the Oka. In addition I fill 51st army with newly arrived reinforcements. They are also taking defensive positions west of Moscow. I received two additional guard divisions this turn.
