Quite a bit of flooding in the gulf coast. Stay safe down there, guys.

For an area with 5 straight days of rain or snow, I've heard the most happy sound just now. The sound of a working sump pump...

You might consider the purchase of a back up gas powered trash pump. 1st thing I did when we moved here.

Well, it is still morning here, so: Good Morning!

BTW, I loved it when I had family in the Navy, nothing like visiting and being 2 blocks from a private beach!

Yes , a trash pump. They are designed to empty lots of water from a pond or basement in a very short time. A gasoline powered one is great for power failures. "DUMBASS".

I’m making grilled mutton chops with a tarragon/pomegranate sauce.

Mutton chops call for a Pauillac. But with pomegranate, you might be interested in a Beaujolais, the heavier ones, Côte de Brouilly or something, strong enough for the mutton, but with the fruit taste that goes with the pomegranate.

If you feel bold (and you believe the person you invite likes strong wines) you might want to try a Cornas, I'm ready to bet it works with the chops, and the leather taste would probably work wonders with the fruits in the dressing.

Pauillac would need to be around 2007, Brouilly 2010, and Cornas as old as you can afford...

F.

I agree, mouton chops want something chewey. But one can't get decent stuff in Alabama.I 'm using the last of my Domaine Drouhin DDO 2008 Pinot. I had thought of a Malbeck, but you are right about the pomegranate. Mutton, fruit, really wants something in the middle leaning towards cutting the heaviness of the lamb. Best I could do with what's available is the strongest pinot I could find. He makes it in the Burgundy style.; tight, structured, intelligent, woof !!

Tonight's the night. Clouds should open and the Moon should be out. Deeeeeeep breath, John.

Or a white? You'd need something not too dry so that it goes with the fruit, but not too sweet so that you keep the taste of the meat.

A southern alsace (pinot gris, or one of the sweeter rieslings) or a burgundy white (a chardonnay, but a sunny one), sound like good ideas. But I've had Saumur white (Chenin) that would go well too.
In fact, there probably are more possibilities than with reds, all easier to find in your parts. Just something slightly fat, not too dry, and not sweet.

And beside, if you serve cheese, cheese and white is something to behold. An interesting surprise for the end of the meal, just before you move to more serious matters.

After striking out on 3 or 4 attempts at finding an older truck for Alex's birthday, we stumbled into a great one last night. Went to a used dealer to look at an old Suburban and ended up driving home a 1999 Tahoe 4x4 that has a lot of miles, but has been very well cared for. The kid is pretty damned happy today.

And now, the search for mods, as any teen age boy wants to make it "his".

On a related note, how did the night go John? The build up was intense, inquiring minds want to know

We both had to work this morning, so … She was the perfect lady and I was a perfect gentleman. She loved the food and the attention. We walked the docks and I talked about sailboats. She talked about horses. Then she found out my sister has horses and I have an airplane and the butterflies congregated.

I took her home, very late, and she kissed me. You remember when you were 16 and your gf gave you your first real kiss? And the electric flow that went through your entire body? Okey dokey then, you know where my brain went. That kiss was a promise.

She’s going to be here for another week, and I look forward to some more contact. She’s met Mom, so now I’m gonna have to go South and meet her folks. It’s a Catholic thing, and it’s nice that I can travel on a Chilean passport. She’s a serious keeper. Pray for me ya’ll.

Went to see the doctor today. Surgery was discussed; apparently it would be more involved than I thought, and would have a comparatively low chance of a positive outcome. So, physical therapy, industrial strength painkillers and patience. That last bit is wearing thin.
