I do not understand why the Klingon economy is so much bigger than mine in my current game. Following are some screen shots. The first shows the Klingons in my Diplomacy screen, the second is my Empire summary screen. My question at this time revolves solely around why the Klingon GDP is so much higher than mine when they do not have THAT many more colonies than me and I have the larger population. What am I overlooking?

It looks like your income is increased by having the Klingons in your empire, but they get the full racial bonus of course. They could also have a better leader and a governor on their home world. Check your home world versus theirs to see the difference...

OK, I now have a somewhat clearer picture of what is going on. I have an agent in deep cover in the Klingon empire, and here is what I have learned. At core, it is an issue of starting position and racial stats,I think. The Klingon homeworld is situated in a more dense stellar population than my homeworld-OK. What that means is that the Klingons have had more colonies for a longer period of time than I have- they have a lot more economically mature colonies in other words. The Klingon homeworld accounts for only 6% of Klingon GDP, whereas Kzin accounts for 22% of total GDP (of course economic wonders account for much of that- but not all). Also- the Klingon are Exterminating all non-Klingon races from those colonies that they conquer.

The devil is in the details.
