OK, I now have a somewhat clearer picture of what is going on. I have an agent in deep cover in the Klingon empire, and here is what I have learned. At core, it is an issue of starting position and racial stats,I think. The Klingon homeworld is situated in a more dense stellar population than my homeworld-OK. What that means is that the Klingons have had more colonies for a longer period of time than I have- they have a lot more economically mature colonies in other words. The Klingon homeworld accounts for only 6% of Klingon GDP, whereas Kzin accounts for 22% of total GDP (of course economic wonders account for much of that- but not all). Also- the Klingon are Exterminating all non-Klingon races from those colonies that they conquer. The devil is in the details. [8D]
