Good morning all......not! Got home last night, a letter in the mail, I knew right away......Jury duty on 2 July. Ugh!

Just carry a John Gresham novel in with you to read while you are waiting. You won't be picked, and even if you are, they will dismiss you.

an NRA T-shirt will probably get you dismissed as well.

Not up here.

As I told Jeff, it is probably a case of who's cows wandered in who's corn field and then knocked the laundry down in the yard. A case fit for Perry Mason.

Seems suspicious to me already. You guys don't have all that much corn up your way. Seems like a plot. Now a WHEAT field, I'd buy.

Welp, the battle for Tarawa is now underway. So far, eerily similar to real life, in that my Marines are encountering stiff resistance and I've had a CVE (the Sangamon) sunk by a Jap submarine.

No. I've put a heavily reinforced 1st Marine Division ashore. Just over 30000 troops to his just under 10000. The Penguins are quite strongly fortified, but they'll be disentangled from their burrows soon enough.

Speaking of Spitfires and historical accuracy... The boss has apparently decided we needed to paint Overlord stripes onto TE311. It's a low back mkXVI (which weren't in service on D-day) painted in 1945 2nd TAF colours. So it's not just the History Channel who aren't too good with their facts....

He's "from" Dallas (as in home town). He lives in Jacksonville. And I don't think he ever changed it when he moved a couple of years ago.

Welp, Tarawa secured aside from a few stragglers which I assume will be dealt with this turn. 1 USN CVE lost to 4 IJN DD, 3 AK and 2 SS. Win for me.

Afternoon tithe.

Actually started a campaign vs the AI, which I haven't done for four+ years. Plays fairly well as long as I don't do anything crazy to upset the scripts.

Althoug I would prefer to lose Liscombe Bay to the CVE you lost. Those converted AO's are impressive little CVE's. Luck of the game.

Stupid Dakota tithe Although I suspect my ire should be directed at stupid Pratt & Whitney. Who designs an engine where you need to take the f****** generator off to change the starter motor. Which, by the way, is located in possibly the most awkward place they could have fitted it without adding barbed wire or putting it inside a cylinder.

Supermarine aren't doing any better in my list of people who have annoyed me this week either. Changing an oil cooler on the MkIX (or XVI) is harder than it should be. It involves draining all the coolant from the aircraft because the oil cooler is bolted to the radiator and then the combined unit needs a lot of angling and persuasion to come out of a space that is just a bit too small to be able to get any access.

How did the Allies actually manage to win the war when maintenance was this difficult!?

Tarawa secured with a final light sprinkling of 1000lb bombs and 16in shells. And 3 more IJN subs sunk in one day.

I know they probably weren't all sunk, but it looked good...

Yeah, cack happens. I have more landings to do before 1943 ends. Ideally, at least two more.
