What are the chances USA will do good? No one is picking them and my soccer friends say they are in the group of death.

Yeah they'll never get past Germany for sure unless there are two teams from each group. Then Portugal may be a problem for the number 2 slot so US should be out early.

I guess you are not really a follower of football then?

thas the problem with you. You're always "guessing" Mark my words and follow the outcome. US out first round my predictions. England also.

Mark your words? Really? I don't actually think guessing that the USA will not make it out of the group exactly puts you in the Nostradamus bracket - do you?

And England aren't exactly nailed on to survive either....

Very good - but at least I know how the World Cup is structured.... and yes, its two teams progress from each group

Come on Croatia.

Oh my, hope this completely wrong penalty decision will not set the tone for the entire tournament.

I think that's called home advantage...... very poor decision.

I thought Croatia can consider themselves unlucky.......

Weak refereeing.

Yes, clearly not a penalty. As for the second Croatian goal, rules are clear: you cannot touch the GK in the small box. And Olic did touch him, from what I have seen.

The eternal discussion... As I see it, today they help you, tomorrow you will be their victim... And yes, I am talking about the good old referees terrorism

Video technology, as the Americans do. End of the problem.

I am pretty certain both Brazil and Croatia should make it to the next round. Everyone should be aware of this: what the Croatians have done on the last 2 decades is astonishing: small country consistently churning out world-class players This is really complicated.

Shame that anonymous Japanese referee made sure that Brazil won... non existing penalty (in Europe there would be tonnes of penalties in each game if such benign actions were sanctioned) and equalizer overruled (foul on heir goalkeeper that never was)... shame... real shame on FIFA (the same people who made that Qatar got the World Cup in 2022)...

BTW, Brazil was total disappointment - they stars only gave few "flashes"... with such gameplay they would not go far (unless the referees intervene again)...

Bad refereeing again, should have ended 3-0! Cameroon have some internal problems and seems that it has affected them badly.

There's a saying that goes "Brazil is Brazil", meaning they are special among national teams. You can never rule them out, they can be playing bad for 89 minutes and still manage to win the game, they can barely sum their needed point to advance and before you notice they're contenders for the title. They have some serious espirit d' corps and that verdeamarelha shirt is the most mystic, heavy, majestic, imponent of them all. Add to that Home advantage and you have the most predictable team to be on the final.

I thought the Aussies were excellent - remember we are talking about a team composed largely of lower league players. They were unlucky not to get a draw from that game.

No it wasn't - they did not have that bit of extra class required (Cahill and Jedinak accepted), but the point is they punched above their weight and gave a good account of themselves - and you can't asked for more than that.

Seems like the end of an era to me.
Casilla was rather weak compared to his best, and why on earth they want Torres up front I cannot understand. They appeared "toothless" as we would say in Norwegian, and ALOT needs to change if they want to succeed.
My bet, the avg age is too high now.

100% professional actors?
Come within 3 inches of an Italian player, he falls down in what appears to be agony, rolls 4 times around the field, only to jump up either to cheer or yell at the ref, after the ref has given a free kick one way or another.

England wins 2-0 (Gerrard and Rooney)

The key Dutch players aren't that young either.
Could be the Euro league extra matches. Most spanish players played more matches last season than the Dutch.

I'd say it was a bad day for the Spanish coupled with a good recovery from the Dutch. Spain seemed to me to have a good start but they didn't build on it, they just seemed to coast through (almost as though they assumed they would win) instead of building on their goal. Once the Netherlands took the lead things rapidly got away from the Spanish which maybe caused them to become frustrated and lead to a further drop in concentration/performance.

I wish I'd placed a bet on a 5-1 win now
