Hello Gentlemen,

I am a potential new player. I was recommended this game by several individuals. However, the price tag and lack of a demo have kept me wary up to now. I am almost sure that I am gonna purchase now but am wonder if this is still an active community and if multiplayer opponents are available; especially once I get the hang of the game system. Thanks, Mark

you can buy it and be ready for PBEM when you will think to be ready.
forum is still active and players are there
you will have two possibilities PBEM or server game
some people prefer the last one

Thank you! I am excited/overwhelmed by the level of detail. I have now been reading threads here and I wish I had been active here a year ago when I first heard of this game.

Yeah! This much fun shouldn't be legal, and it may not be soon if certain members of the Russian Parliment get their way. Not naming names.

welcome

By the time you master this one, there should be more info out about WITE 2 or WIE however its called.

Check out the operational boot camp stickied in this forum. That got me up and running. I now consult the manual for depth. It is going to take a while to really master this game.

Welcome repman!

My main advice is to take it a step at a time to not get too overwhelmed, it is a huge game as some of the other players mentioned.

Definitely start with the short scenarios to learn all the movement, combat, command stuff first. That will take a little while already
As far as Grand Campaign, I started with the German side. That seems to be the best way to go, as there are fewer things to worry about re: how to build your army or manage industry, yet it will add logistics and many other dimensions.
I then moved to the Soviet side. That is definitely a whole additional ball game with how to evac you industry, organize your army over a period of months, manage a plethoric Air Force,... I very much enjoy it but I think the Soviet side is the most complex side (which is why I like it!) of this game.

Get some practice against the AI before playing humans!
