Good luck Italy looked good against England but they Uruguay is a strong team. South America (Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay. Columbia)is field some outstanding squads that are running rings around the old European clubs

Hope your Father gets well soon and enjoy London, GJ.

From an Arsenal perspective I will be watching Joel Campbell and Costa Rica vs Italy today, but I won't be pulling against you. IMHO Italy is looking very good to advance and has the benefit of flying under the radar a bit so far. Good luck going forward!

Don't kill too many brain cells.

You need them for your game.

April 12-24, 1942

Ok, back from London!

Had a very good time with Obvert at Wimbledon. We also watched the Italy-Uruguay match together in a pub...wasn't exactly a good match for us

Anyway, the game resumes!

Not much happened in the last 10 days.

I'm not advancing anymore. The tide has stopped. We're now consolidating our perimeter.

KB1 is approaching Singapore. Will move to India asap. Recent Obvert's interest in Diego Garcia and the presence of several PBYs operating in the last base in allied hands in SW India force me to take some countermeasures.

The 21st Army is getting ready to move to Lashio and Western China.

At least 5 new divisions are unloading in Luzon. Supplies seem to have vanished from Manila-Clark, so I believe it's the right moment for the final attack.

Sending several regiments to Horn Island and Mereuake.

The 90th Rgt is moving to Ponape.

Planning to land a division at Diego in the next 30 days.

The flow of oil and fuel to the HI goes pretty well.

As soon as Luzon is over, I will launch a Chinese offensive. Prepping my air force for that.

Welcome back and Banzai!

No idea what to say about Italy - Uruguay. Bizarre and sad moment for football regardless of what nation you support.

On with the war. What are your plans for the China offensive?

The new offensive in China will be the following:

At first an all out attack against Psisiang. I have bought 5 heavy artillery units from Manchuria and they, with 5 tank regiments, are now moving to the area.
The units are all 100% prepped. AFs have been built very close to the Changsha area.
I will use all the power of 200 bombers and 100 fighters.
At the same time, 8 Divisions, once Luzon is conquered, will be moved to the Nanning area, from where we'll start a second front.
Always at the same time, the 21st Army (composed of 4 IDs) will march towards Lashio and Paoshian, supported by 80 fighters and 200 more bombers.
I do think that, having cut completely the connection between China and India, Erik won't be able to defend succesfully the skies of China.
AFAIK he only has an AVG Group in China and nothing more.
Once the air space is mine, China will have hard times defending a good coordinated multi-front advance

Atleast that's what i hope...

April 26, 1942

April is running fast and without much happening.
4 new divisions are unloading in Luzon. 2 more are coming in the next 2 weeks. 150k supplies will be sent there to support the final offensive against Clark and Manila. Am sure now that the supplies there have gone. Good. Attacks will start soon.
In may we're gonna finally have the Tojo, the A6M3 and the Nick in production. The A6M3a is already been researched. The hope. Is to get to the A6M5 by december 42.
Horn island is getting 2 mixed Bdes, 3 AA units ( fielding pieces of 75, 8.8 and 105 mm guns), 2 ind. engineers rgts and one big base force.
Diego will get the same treatment and so will Ponape.
Wake has been reinforced.
Already building a defensive line in India. Madras will be defended heavily and so will be Assam, where i want to lure him to attack... I have some plans for a massive counteroffensive here once he starts to advance...
Ceylon must become a fortress.

It seems a very smart and innovative strategy to advance early against Allies in India and Australia when they’re so weak and concentrate on China (and Luzon) only later. Now China is completely isolated and even if they could entrench and restore to same degree in these months I believe they cannot resist to your four sperheads. Very smart, I never saw it before

The idea is to cut on Kunming. With the 21st Army pushing from the West, the arrival of a tank corp on the road between Kweiyang and Kunming should put a huge pressure on China High Command.
Hopefully this threat would force him to abbandon the Center (Changsha basin) and concentrate on defending the Chungking plans.
The Whole strategy is aimed to make the front move again, rather than conquest a particular base, and if i manage to block the road from Kweyang to Kunming, then the Sector between Kunming and Paoshan could be doable

I had done a "China first" startegy in my other DBB game as japan. It worked but the resources needed for a full offensive in China are going to be missed on the first and second phase of Japan's expansion.
If China can be succesfully isolated for at least one year, i think it can wait 6 months.
For sure the Chinese are now going to be way stronger than in Jan 42, but i should now be able to stabilish a complete air superiority over chinese skies and that should give my troops enough support to be able to conduct some succesfull, even if minor, campaigns.
Beware: i am not aiming to conquer chungking. I will try to render Chine inoffensive in the long term.So i need to estabilish a better defensive perimeter and try to cut the oil flow to the central plains.
Will be hard and long, i know. It willbe a pain. But i think it can still be done.
I will do my best

INDIAN OCEAN:
breaking news here.
A CVTF (44 Fs, 66 Bombers) appeared 10 hexes South of Diego Garcia. My Mavis at Diego did their job.
Possibly an invasion od Diego. American or British CVs? Or a mix of them?
Mines are being layed.
2 SCTFs are in position North of Diego.
KB2 is two days away.
4 subs are already in the area.
36 Zeros have been transfered to Diego.

He now knows he's been spotted. Let's see if he goes on...

NOPAC:
breaking news here too.
A big TF is spotted by glens, moving SW from Attu Island... Marcus Island the target?
KB1 is moving to Saipan as we speak...

LUZON:
we launched the first DL after several months... thought the enemy was out of supplies...WRONG!
Got a bloody nose (1-8 in his favour) and got my two divisions pretty mauled...ouch
However 5 divisions have now landed at Luzon, bringing the total to 7 divisions. One more (a tank ID) is unloading Tomorrow.

Can't wait to see what happens in IO... if he's brining the Whole lot of CVs, i'm moving back.KB2 is not strong enough...
I would hate losing Diego now...didn't have the time to really reinforce it yet...

Finger crossed

Interesting. Of course, one Op could be the feint for the other. Marcus seems pretty ambitious in May 42, but if that's the target KB1 is about to have a party.

INDIAN OCEAN:

Yes, a CVTF composed of what seems to be an American CV and at least a couple of British CVs appeared SW of Diego Garcia.
In the afternoon, the bastards attacked the runwawy, under severe storms.
31 A6M2s of the KU-S1 Sentai took off (they were just transferred from Madras last turn when we spotted the enemy, so they were pretty tired).
Radar worked well.
The enemy arrived with 15 TBs and 30 SDBs at 10,000 feet, with some 42 fighters as escort.
The Zeros were at 18,000 feet.
Immediately my guys tangled with the fighters, downing 1 Wildcat and damaging many more of them. Not a single Zero was touched
Then we dived on the bombers. Sitting ducks.
At least 8 Devastators went down and 10 SDBs.
Not a single zero was lost during the whole day, not even for op loss.
A total victory.

Now the subs will be dispatched and the SCTFs will move.
The KB2 is still a bit too far away... let's see if he stays or run away. Doesn't seem to be any other TF around...so it was probably just a diversion... a risky one if you ask me!

So tomorrow the KI-44a will enter into production.
I have 3x30 RnD factories that are researching the Tojo line.
They will immediately move over the "b" version, while a factory of Ida will be converted to produce 50/60 KI-44a.
I have barely 1 Chutai of 12, and 2 Sentais one of 42 and one of 36 planes that can be fitted with the "a" version of the KI-44.
So I have not much hurry. I will wait for the factory to start the production and repair the damaged points. In the while, the interested groups will be moved to India from Fusan. Will take time... but it's ok for now.

The real "key" plane in this PDU OFF environement is the Oscar IIb.
I have so many sentais that upgrade to it so I really need to have it asap.
As soon as I get the engine bonus for the Ha-35 (currently at 335 engines in the pool, should be there by the end of may!)it should proceed pretty fast (30x7 factories Rnding the KI-43IIa version...which means, once the engine bonus strikes in, 14 RnD points per day! WOW!)

INDIAN OCEAN:

The British attack Diego with a strong SCTF, while the CVs cover from 5 hexes NW of Diego.
At night the enemy sinks 2 PBs delivering mines.
Then they tangled with 2 CLs and 4 DDs of mine... Sendai is sunk while Exeter damaged by a torp.
The Brits go on and bomb Diego (4 planes destroyed on the ground).
When the day arrives, the Exeter is caught by my KB2 and sunk, while the american carriers attack my second TF (that didn't arrive in time at Diego to tangle with the enemy's cruisers)... 2 CLs and 2 DDs damaged, but 11 Wildcats shot down.

At the end of the day, the battle is over...A japanese minor defeat probably, but i think next time he'll get back he'll find some suprises here (arriving Air HQ, Kates and Vals, 3 AA units and several infantry units...).

So what do we have now?
A CV TF (at least 1 US CV plus possibly 2 british CVs) near Diego.
No sign of any invasion TF, so it must be a feint or a scouting en force mission.
I will be sure Diego is secured ASAP now. Maxed out to the SL, with high forts and able to defend itself even without the KB.
That means, i need to deploy at least 1 ID, plus some decent support LCUs (1 Eng rgt, 1 tank rgt, 1 Air HQ, 3 AA units and a couple of artillery units).
Diego AF will be brought to 5 (currently 3) and i will deploy Vals and Kates here (20+20 i guess).
170 mines are already present, along with an ACM. need some fuel now, but the situation should improve a lot in thenext month or so.

But now that he knows i have some CVs in the IO, i need to get ready for another push in the PACIFIC (or in Western Oz).

KB1 will stop at Bab for the moment, while more Betties will be moved to Perth.

Reinforcements are already moving to Cocos Is and Christmas I.O.

May 4, 1942

The allies vanish in the CT channel. The battle for Diego is over and the butcher's bill says losses are pretty light.
Japan loses 1 CL (SENDAI), 1 PB and 1 midget sub.
The allies lose 1 (old) CA and some 30 CV planes (hopefully with lots of pilots in them).
Diego is safe, however, which is what counts strategically.

Near Marcus, no more signs of any allied presence. A feint for Diego? KB1 remains in the low pacific for the moment.

BB Yamato arrived!. Cool.
CS Nisshin is helping me to convert a couple of Rufe chutai from 9 to 20planes. Wanna have 40 additional float fighters with my KB.

In Luzon we're now ready to move.
We have there:
The 16th Army, composed by the 48th, 16th and 8th IDs, along with the 65th mixed Bde
The 15th Army, made around the Guards Tank ID, the 2nd, 36th, 38th and 41st IDs (36th and 41st were those that were completely detroyed at Sian).
Both armies are under the command of the 5th Fleet Command HQ
A bunch of artillery, engineers and tank regiments are supporting the Whole army.
Hope is enough...

As you can see, the battle for Diego left me with a Whole bunch of new aces... The 15th KuS-1 has suddenly become the best Group around.

Unfortunately Erik has avoided wisely any real attrition in early 1942, so I didn't really have the chance to make my pilots get really good... I am sure this is gonna bite me back in 1943 and 44
