Superb, Daz! Keep the analyses rolling in! I'm looking at it and thinking that I will play my slightly amended version (with more VPs for killing Italians) and try to bottle off the Italians and come round behind them. In that pass leading down to the Gormos crossing has to be the main candidate. Around Delvinakion. What do you think?

The terrain is so porous, however, even around the edges of this pass - armour can still pass over the tops here and get round the back. Difficult.

View down to the Gormos crossing, looking north towards Delvinakion:

I'm going to stick with the historical scenario, seeing as its my first time.
I'm not going to commit to the encirclement plan until I have seen how the defensive line is holding out, when 5E Regiment turn up.
I have calculated I need every available unit to form on the line, so I have no reserve, other then 5E arriving on the morning of Day 3.

Ah. I hadn't noticed any of this last time I played through. How stupid am I... I was so surprised that there was only one bridge I had to check each track with the pathing tool. And you're right. They can only get the tanks across there. Amazing. Looking forward to this. They can get infantry across all over the place, of course.

Your right about the infantry, but at least that's the armour Division taken care of.

As you pointed out earlier, there kind of hard to stop with pea shooters

It's a race for that bridge. Hadn't thought of it like that before. Hope your guys manage to blow it.

This is the bridge today, looking south. You can see it's quite an impressive gorge - certainly a good barrier.

I bet the Italians wish they had roads like that in 1940!
Last two key units.

I wonder if the Italians have Engineers and bridges? I don't recall the answer at all. Do you think the Ai is capable of devising a plan where he doesn't rely on the one crossing, but also sends bridge builders to bridge the river further north? It seems unlikely.

I'm so curious I had to scroll through the Italian OOB to look for bridges, to see if there were any. I have the intel, if you pay me.

lol it would be very short sighted of he Italians to start a war, and not have at least one bridge building unit between three Divisions, especially as one is armoured.
There is no crossing point further north.
This is the only crossing over this river.

You can't just build a bridge anywhere, as you need the infrastructure leading to it, and on the other side, and building new roads takes an incredibly long time, and a huge amount of resources.
Much longer than this scenario would allow.

I'm glad you brought that subject up though.
I guess I will have to probe towards the bridge every 24 hours or so, to check that it's not being rebuilt, then concentrate artillery on any engineers seen in the area.

I should get a chance to play tonight.
I'm not doing an AAR on it though, as I still have the Greyhound Dash scenario to finish, but I will post some updates at interesting periods, probably once daily game time.
Ill start it in the AAR forum as it allows me to post larger images, and it will contain spoilers. Anyone looking at an AAR will know that, but would not expect it from a planning aids thread.

I intend to play it much faster than my usual pace, but any updates I post usually take all evening to prepare, so you will be lucky if you get one a day. More likely one every two days real time.

I don't think I have ever played a scenario so outnumbered before.
One infantry Division against an entire Corps.
I think this is going to be a tough one!

Well, now that you've identified the weak point, the focal point, the bridge (which I never did...), I think it's going to be a walk in the park. Look forward to it.

I have good memories of this scenario in the old version and wrote a mini AAR of my fight:

AT 1st sight all I could think of is why isn't Daz working for Panther designing CO maps. And when the awe wore off and I started looking at the real meat of this thread I wondered why he isn't the chief scenario designer too.

Thanks for the comments guys

No plan survives first contact with the enemy, and neither did my plan for a nice quiet gaming weekend.
I ended up looking after the Grandkids all weekend

Ill get on with it as soon as I get a chance though
