Apparently the F-22 was involved in the recent attacks on ISIL and the nearby Al Qaeda affiliate.

Hearing the same from other sources as well.

Possibly needed them to skirt around Syrian S-300 and other air defenses to hit the ISIS targets.

The F-22s took part in the second of three waves of bombings by U.S. and allied aircraft, along with F-15s, F-16s and the B-1 bombers and drones.
They hit targets in northern Syria, including ISIS headquarters, training camps, barracks and combat vehicles.

At a Pentagon briefing Tuesday, a Pentagon official showed off pictures displaying the precision of the strikes, including by F-22s, which can fly undetected by radar at high altitudes.

Army Lt. Gen. Bill Mayville, director of operations for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, showed reporters a picture of an ISIS command and control building in Raqaa, Syria.

“This strike was the first time the F-22 was used in a combat role. The flight of the F-22s delivered GPS-guided munitions — precision munitions targeting only the right side of the building,” Mayville said.

Meh, you never know, there's some reports that the Syrians might have them.

It's all sort of murky, but if there's a chance that Syria has some good air defenses then perhaps that's why the F-22's were employed.

Meh, in CMANO that would only be 45% damage.

Yes, but I would suspect that the "air defense" that the F-22 was being deployed to hedge against was probably more likely to have been Assad's remaining fighter aircraft, rather than S-300.

Good point CV32, to be honest I wasn't sure about the Syrians ability to fly combat missions at night. The strikes with the F-22's are near the North West part of Syria, supposedly where Assad has the strongest influence, and his Air Defence and Air assets are still the most credible. This also might explain the use of the 46 Tomahawk strikes mostly in the NW part of Syria.

True

But in reality I wonder if the person/place/thing they were after was in that corner of the building - if so very nicely targeted.

I thought North-East Syria was bombed? Its not like Syria has any known static air defense sites in that area. Most of their stuff is aimed mostly at defending from Israel.

North East was struck as well, I was referring to the F-22 srikes near Raqqa and the Tomahawk strikes around Aleppo.

Yes, it wasn't just northeast. It was all along northern Syria. They had a robust Russian style air defense. I'm not sure how modern it is or how well it is maintained...

Maybe Israel shared their secret to turning off the Syrian radars?

It seems Israel got in on the action too, to a degree, downing an Su-24 with a Patriot. Israel military shoots down Syrian aircraft
