Hearing the same from other sources as well. Yes, but I would suspect that the "air defense" that the F-22 was being deployed to hedge against was probably more likely to have been Assad's remaining fighter aircraft, rather than S-300.

Good point CV32, to be honest I wasn't sure about the Syrians ability to fly combat missions at night. The strikes with the F-22's are near the North West part of Syria, supposedly where Assad has the strongest influence, and his Air Defence and Air assets are still the most credible. This also might explain the use of the 46 Tomahawk strikes mostly in the NW part of Syria.

I thought North-East Syria was bombed? Its not like Syria has any known static air defense sites in that area. Most of their stuff is aimed mostly at defending from Israel.

Yes, it wasn't just northeast. It was all along northern Syria. They had a robust Russian style air defense. I'm not sure how modern it is or how well it is maintained...

It seems Israel got in on the action too, to a degree, downing an Su-24 with a Patriot. Israel military shoots down Syrian aircraft
