Review: Drums of War on Digitally Downloaded
http://www.digitallydownloaded.net/2014/03/review-drums-of-war-pc.html
Final score is 3.5/5.
Reviewer сonclusion: That nasty aside, Drums of War is a truly enjoyable fantasy strategy game that has the unfortunate disadvantage of being nearly unmarketable. For something that looks like a college project that aspiring game developers pulled together to hook its claws into you, you really do need to give it a solid couple of hour's play first. Screenshots just don't do this one justice.

This game has a TON more depth that it appears to have. I disagree that it is unmarketable. I have seen much worse looking (and playing) games on Steam, and they still sell. The graphics in this game are fine, and fit the game nicely. The gameplay is so engrossing that I don't even care they are not cutting edge graphics. Get this puppy Greenlit on Steam and see where it goes. Word of mouth is very powerful on Steam, and once people get into this game they will see how much fun it is.

And they'll tell two friends, and they'll tell two friends, and so on, and so on . . .

Sorry, I couldn't resist that line from a stupid old TV commercial for shampoo in America.

The review actually said some good things as well. It got me closer to buying it as do your posts jglazier. I love old school hex based TBS games.

[EDIT] Got off the fence. Downloading it now....

Great! I hope you like it, Terl. Give it a couple missions, and you will begin to see the depth. I think it was mission 4 in the first campaign, where you are assaulting a castle, gave me all kinds of trouble. Then I tried a different strategy and finally beat it. You really do have to use the map to your advantage. You can chop trees down on top of enemies, you can open up castle gates to storm in behind them. All sorts of fun.

If you don't like it, I never said anything here!

One thing to remember,as ComradeP mentioned in another thread, when facing the undead stay in the light. They get advantages in the dark. I stayed near a campfire and set a tree on fire to increase light... then fought them as they come out of the darkness.

One archer became 'frightened' and ran off into the night...not a good idea with vampires around...

enjoy!

I don't have too much time for PC games anymore since I'm working a 2nd job (40 hours) on top of my regular job (60 hours). But this game really has me tempted to pick it up even if I can only spend a couple hours each week playing. I hope the devs continue to improve it - the more character, flavor, chrome they can add the better - graphics matter not a whit to me just the lore and cool stuff like that combined with strategy gameplay. Looks really good. :)

Final score is B+.
...In the meantime, Drums of War is worth the price of admission, and not every game has to be good for months of play...

Final score is 7/10

I think what will hurt this game in the long run is it looks and plays a lot like that game Wesnoth online that is a free download and lots of updates. I keep asking myself why I would buy this one when there is a free one to play online that is very simular? I do agree it might do a lot better on Steam as say a $4.99 game or $9.99. I don't think it's going to garner many sales at the price it is now. Just my 2cents everyone thinks differently for a reason.

This game should have been released first on tablets for $9.99. With the Easter discount I was tempted but still passed on it.

I don't agree with that.
DoW and Wesnoth share the same thematics and the same old school 2d graphics.
But in terms of game mechanics, I don't feel like I'm playing the same game at all.

Once again it's like that commercial. If one person thinks a certain way then others do as well. Some will think like you and some will think like me but because we see two different ways of things certainly others will as well. Free vs cost is a hard thing to look away from with such games as these.
