Very interesting scenario
I think Big scenario is better than divided into parts

Few minor thing :

1)Kalinin air defence
From book "Nuclear-powered missile cruisers Project 1144" by Captain 1st Rank, Candidate of Military Sciences, Professor V.P.Kuzin.
citation:

"S-300F mounted on TARKR as a major caliber anti-air defense, did not escape the "itch disease" improvement from vehicle to vehicle. If "Kirov" and next "Frunze" (for brevity, we shall yet call them "original" names) received two identical SAM with SAM 5V55RM with common ammunition 96 missiles in 12 launcher B-203A, then on the 3rd - "Kalinin" - to S-300F applied not only better, but also more "thick" and long SAM 48N6E. This, of course, required some modification of the launchers.
In addition to improving the actual rockets used for SAM 48N6E better system (methods) guidance added, which required changing some hardware components of the complex.

Generally, the 2nd ship pr.1144 conceived as a "highly advanced" already during the construction of the head. He (projects) even was given the number 11442. was supposed to be built pr.11442 all subsequent TARKR, but nevertheless all three cruisers, pr.11442 turned out different.

Death of B.I.Kupenskiy caused appointment as chief designer pr.1144 V.A.Perevalov. Chief watching from the Navy remained A.A.Savin, but since that time he has held the position of Deputy(and then, since 1985 - chief) of the Office of surface ships TSNIIVK,he duplicated it in some cases by A.N.Blinov (Ch. Watching by pr.1164).

The 4th TARKR - "Andropov" (3rd on pr.11442) - received one of the S-300F and one S-300FM. The latest development on the basis of the Army C-300PMU2 "Favorite" with the new SAM - 48N6E2. Due to the design of the rocket ammo reduced by 2 missiles. All the Control Room of the complex has undergone changes, including and AP firing radar (military designation F1M). The new version of the complex were significantly expanded zone of destruction of targets in range, height and bottom border, increases the possibility of intercepting high-speed (including ballistic) targets and dramatically increased channel on target and the missile."

2)projects 1155.1 in scenario

They have 130nm range Sunburns (Moskit-MVE),for 1994 it should be 70nm version (Moskit-E)
Moskit-MVE completed tests only in 2005
citation from official site "Russian federal programs" from 2006-06-05

"Activities conducted Rospromom in improving industrial policy, including in the framework of relevant FTPs allowed to carry out a number of projects in the aviation industry. In particular, completed flight testing of cruise missiles "Mosquito-MBE", X-102, received certification for the Tu-204-300, the Be-103 (Brazil, China)."

Well this is minor issues and I really enjoyed this scenario
Looking forward to see other scenarios from this set.

Thank you for pointing that out, I'll change that for the next release. Those ships are in a couple other scenarios as well, so I'll have to check on them.

Scenarios 1,2,4,5 & 5.5 are already released and the latest versions are in the community scenario thread above:
http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3618478&mpage=3

Working on 6 & 7 now.

Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks.

I run 3, a 23" main screen, an old 21" for the msg log & a really old 18" for the Msn planner, DB and internet. Makes the game much more manageable. When I suggested a 30" my wife almost shot me

Few minor thing :

1)Kalinin air defence

2)projects 1155.1 in scenario

OK, found a Project 1155.1 Udaloy II and changed it out for an Udaloy I (prj 1155) which do not carry any Sunburn missiles.

Not sure I understand the first point. There is both the Kirov (1st in series) and Frunze (2nd in series) in the game.
The DB3000 for Sov Union carries 2 versions of the Kirov (I chose the later one 84-91), and another entry for Kalinin and one for Frunze
The entries for Russia carries a version for Adm Lazarev (Ex-Frunze) and 2 versions of the Adm Nakhimov (Ex-Kalinin), the second being 2006 so is way out for the scenario.

Not sure where the issue is, could you help me out a bit? Is it a DB accuracy problem or have I chosen the wrong platform for the scenario?

Thanks

Hmm apparently you're right, this is database problem.Incorrect represented Kalinin in database.
Well I see two solutions to this problem:

1)Simple solution.Instead use of Kalinin use Kirov

2)If you want to add some challenge to scenario manualy remove 5V55RM weapon records and add 48n6 weapon records and you get authentic Kalinin from 1994. In 1994 ship was yong, missile only ended testing phase (in 1993),testing limitation removed (1988-1993 Kalinin had limitations by software for 48n6 missile-93km range) so I think it will be interesting to see this ship in this intensive scenario

As i said, it is minor issues. Scenario is good, even if Kalinin in fact another Frunze.

Tried this through from beginning to end, mostly as the newer computer is a lot faster!
Its a pretty massive scenario but seemed to run at a steady pace. I ended with a score of 619 as a triumph, though that took a lot of work. The cost in submarines in particular was high.
I think at first my air to air was poor as well, often at or about one for one.

The UK was rapidly overwhelmed with few defenders.
Thule I struggled to get involved due to the distances involved, almost the same with other mainland bases.

In the end the main damage air to air was probably the AMRAAM equipped F-18 once I'd tanked them all the way to the CV. The SLAMER were also pretty lethal.

I think the only potential issues as such were that the second Frunze detached from the main body, presumably to go hunting carriers.
The Soviets also struggled with distances thank goodness and the air cover only extended so far from Iceland.

I'm running V2 and I noticed the Enterprise BARCAP PZ is located out west while the patrol zone is up north. Was that intended? The other BARCAPs have the PZ surrounding the patrol zone.

I agree that Thule, Goose and Gander are a tad far away but their tankers, AWACS and MPA are useful, as is the extra ramp space if you need it later in the scenario. The 2 Air National Guard squadrons are less useful but add to the story. The F-15 Sqn can be a good tool to distract the Icelandic defences, takes a few tankers but can be fun. The Cdn F-18 squadron is a real stretch but if the Su-27s get a crack at the CRAFT link then they become useful. I'll check on that 2nd Frunze, I think I need to change him out anyway.

The UK base with Tornado's only is a sitting duck, but with the additional jammers and the 1/2 Sqn of F-15, you can keep it going, not easy but if you can outlast the air group on the Varyag they can be a major PITA to the Iceland defences.

batek688: No that must be an oversight on my part. I'll check it out. Thank you to picking it up.

I should have some time to fix this one up in the next few days. Any other comments?

I dont know if its been mentioned yet but the UK is underpowered. I got swarmed by soviet fighters, then when the aircraft readied they were shot down as soon as the took off.

Not sure the Phantom's would hold up against the Su-33's - interesting option though. You mention the gr4? Would that be the 15 F-4J's scrounged from the USAF post Falklands? Not familiar with that mark.

New version attached here.

-Changed out the Frunze & Kalinin for a couple of Kirov's (Kept the Udaloy II for story-line reasons)
-Sped up the readiness of the UK based fighters and EW
-Added a Squadron of Phantom FGR-2s
-Changed the PZ's for some MiG-31's, should get the ANG F-15's into more action up north

Very interested in any points you might have.

I am probably about 50% through this scenario at the moment. I have about 1 day 14 hours remaining and the second group of F-18s from the US east coast are almost at my CVBG. Current score is around 450/Triumph. I've lost a couple of aircraft and an SSN that got too close! Some of the aircraft were lost to tanker issues which have been reported elsewhere. Occasionally some tanker aircraft won't allow other aircraft to re-fuel.

It's definitely harder than the first time I played it after you just released it. I've found that I haven't been using the RAF Phantoms due to their short legs compared with the Tornados and F-15s which I've been mainly using to shoot down Tu-22s and jamming aircraft. In the same general area, I haven't bothered to go after the Su-33s and they've left me alone. The F-15s have been good but the lack of a compatible tanker is a limiting factor, no doubt by design

Finally, thanks for setting up the missions. I changed a few things at the start but it was very helpful and would be helpful for new players attempting a large scenario.

Most certainly, otherwise they can run amuck and get the jammers north of the ones you’re getting

I may have to adjust the PZ for the Su-33's, wouldn't want the Pomms to miss all the fun

Have you had any action in the south - with Su-27's trying to break into the CRAFT lanes? Or in the area of the convoy? These may be sideshows deserving their own scenario.

Also has there been any action over Northern Greenland? An ANG F-15A probe into the northern Jammers (with lots of tanker support) might stir up a bit of a Fox hunt.

Huge scenario!
Two things that have to be adjusted imo.

Usually I'm not a fan of pre-set missions but in this case I am thankful that the basic stuff (AAW,ASW,AEW,AAR) has already been done. I think what's important is that the AAW Patrols should all get additional prosecution areas as all of them are simple AAW patrol boxes. From my point of view, setting up a prosection zone for a AAW patrol does increacse its effectiveness by 100%, espacially when you conduct BARCAP (Best example would be the RAF BARCAP mission).

Second, I noticed that the NATO subs start with EMCON default Radar Active. Was that intended? If yes, I think I have to revise my understanding of submarine warfare...

This is a formidable piece of work you did there! Keep going!

Roger that - the PZ's should be fixed in the latest release. The Sub EMCON is not intended. I'll need to fix that.

I've been able to take out the jammers east of Iceland but the others toward Greenland have been too difficult to reach from the UK side. Likewise, I've been trying to take out passing Tu-22s but the jamming and extreme range have made that challenging.

I recall when I first played the scenario, the Su-33s gave me lots of problems on the UK side but as per my original comment, I haven't shot down one so far because they haven't attacked my patrols.

I've seen two waves of aircraft heading for the CRAFT lanes. A wave of Su-24s and a second wave of mainly fighters. I managed to down almost all aircraft in both waves. I have been trying to 'manually' shoot at the Su-24s to conserve A2A missiles.

The ANG F-15s don't have great range so at this point they haven't shot down anything. I recall in the first version I was able to take out jammers west of Iceland with not much difficulty. This time, even with a Sparrow light loadout (2 x AIM-7 and 2 x AIM-9), it has been very difficult. I haven't been able to move a tanker that far north until basically the point I am at right now.

OK, glad to see that is still working, I just realized that it’s been about a year since originally building this scenario! So many things in the game have changed that I'm glad things are still ticking along as planned.

Your tactic is good to get those Su-24's, if a leaker gets to the convoy the VP hit is high. Same for the CRAFT airliners.

I think the Bear hunting up north will be good, I did improve the Ftr cover up there however. Once most of the remaining jammers are knocked down, things get a bit more settled IIRC.

Playing it now...

couple of notes... I'm seeing events fired for "Soviet A/C destroyed" fired however I'm not shooting anything ...looks like Backfires are getting killed somewhere...

also trying to launch the CH53's from the AOE 3 Seattle and once told to launch they go into a loop "waiting for clear deck" or something similar... it resets every 5 seconds. I couldn't abort launch...finally had to "rearm" them was they only way to break that cycle.

I also have a group of F14s that I launched and manually controlled to some enemy A/C but I cannot fire as it states..."VF-11 Red Rippers #4 is dropping Tu-22M-3 Backfire C #421 from its target list (Reason: The target is outside the unit's patrol/prosecution area).
Funny but I don't have them on a patrol mission...I even "unassigned" them just in case...now they are running away since they won't fire their missiles....grrrr...

Thanks for the points, I'll check them out. I suspect that there may be some Sov A/C running out of fuel - there are a few Bison A2A refuelers out there but maybe something has gone wrong. The CH53 bit is strange, I'll check, the DB may have changed since built causing an issue. The message your receiving indicates that the Ripper is still on a mission, he may be on one that came pre-set in the scenario, odd that its happening after you unassigned them though. Am currently on the road but have a copy of the file so will check when I've got a few min.
