A couple of quick questions in China:

What is the best way to get hexside control across the rivers at Chungking? Division size crossing or something smaller?

After I close of Chungking, should I move on Kunming while I can? He doesn't have a ton of units there. Or should I focus on Chungking? Or focus more heavily on destroying all the stray units?

Allies night bomb in Pegu. No defense. Not much damage.

Normal heavy bombing in the Marshalls -- surprise a small squadron of Rex's actually destroy two B24s! Get em Rex!

It is kind of sad when I get excited over this kind of small thing...but you gotta take satisfaction from something.

Lots of Allied sweeps in Indochina; we avoid the two Jugs sweeps, but then Lightnings sweep Bangkok again, for the second straight day. What a difference the George makes, or even just one day.

The Lightnings dive on the Oscars, and in two sweeps destroy 9 of them in frantic dogfights; however the George then dives on the Lightnings and 12 are confirmed kills! Lots of cannon goodness!

In China, the monster stack attacks outside of Chengtu...with good results and the unit in pursuit makes 15 miles towards Chengtu.

Several units seem to be raised from the dead at Chungking, which is now totally surrounded.

In Burma, the Allies pursue the beaten splinters of units that defended Lashio, sending them retreating into Bhamo. I am flying some supplies into Myitkyina so they can at least shoot back.

An artillery unit disperses into the jungle...but attention here on the road to the north, rather than clearing the Burma road is welcome indeed.

Allies bomb at Tuang Gyi, after the runway is bombed by the 4Es, and we lose 4 vehicles to 1 Allied gun. I have several more artillery moving in to counter the balance, but getting supply up there is tough now with the monsoon.

I am releasing supply from Toungoo, so hopefully it flows north to Tuang Gyi, replenishing the defenders there.

Naval air attack at Ramree with Vals and Kates...old generation planes. Plus two sweeps.

I upgraded a squadron of Zeroes to George in Truk. They can fly high CAP, and will let me eventually re-establish Ponape and Kusaie I hope. More Rexs on the way to help!

KB is steaming to a possible intercept of a fast transport unit...

Happy Thanksgiving. What do we have be happy about? Happy she didn't sink! KB moves right into a submarine ambush!

Allied subs get off a large number of fish...one attack after another. Escorts and screens and planes do well, but still one fish finds a home.

Meanwhile, while the Sun rises, air raid sirens sound at Wake, SBD dive bombers attack the numerous midget submarines guarding the Island and carrier planes sweep and bomb the defenders.

A scant 28 hexes from the KB, with the now damaged Shokaku! This is exactly how I lost the Zuikaku...a sub attack, separate the damaged ship with insufficient protection and daring Allied Cruisers dodge and weave and close with the Zuikaku in several engagements.

After thinking about the KB, we plotted a course to the north east hoping to avoid combat, but there is a possibility that the Americans make a full speed run....hope not.

No night sub attacks...wohoo. Will there be a carrier engagement?

Night bombing of Moulmein, and the Endo Detachment doesn't fly. No damage.

Marshalls get bombed a little, but that is about it...

The American carriers flee! The KB goes dark.

This turn I am going to try for an attack on the dirt road to Lashio with infantry versus his tanks. It is Jungle ridge terrain, and I have IJA 43 squads, with the 1st Tank Division providing bombardment support. Two squadrons of Helens will attack at low level to eat up Allied supply prior to the attack.

I have no idea what to expect here...don't know how much a penalty Tanks have in jungle on the defense...Allies should be woefully short infantry and the Allied tanks get hit pretty hard 3 weeks ago. Cross your fingers

Night bombing at Moulmein. Two waves and the Endo Detachment sorties for both, and despite running out of ammo, being unable to penetrate the defense, or the guns jamming, they manage to disrupt the attacks (with the help of some strong AA) that no damage is done and another bomber is shot down in air to air. The End Detachment of 2 planes is up to 4 confirmed kills with no losses.

During the day the Allies sweep several bases in Burma to no effect, and then heavily bomb Pegu, Toungoo and Tuang Gyi. No Japanese opposition other than AA.

The IJA attempts a small attack on the road to Lashio and finds an American division. Shucks.

In China, the IJA does a full bombardment attack, normally we use only Artillery,at Chengtu.

For now the Burma road is still cut. Thankfully I have cut the road to Chengtu too. I need to capture Chengtu and set up strong blocks on the mountain roads.

Allies night bomb Chiang Mai. Pity, because I moved all night bombers to Moulmein.

We miss the Jugs sweeps, but defend Moulmein. Not great, mainly because the George needs to fly high to limit damage from Allied sweepers, but oh, so much better than last month.

Moulmein gets swept by Corsairs, bombed several times(10 Irvings destroyed on the ground, it seems NF are susceptible to day bombing runs), and then swept by Lightnings in the Afternoon.

Just so pleased with the George!

Here is a look at the plane losses for the day. Very good!

Elsewhere the normal Allied bombing of the Marshalls, and the lower Solomons occur.

IJN Destroyers sink two MGB boats off Burma in lone ship task forces. Ugh.

Totally agree with this, it is the only plane that seems to be able to stand up to Allied fighters (except the Thunderbolt).

In a no altitude rule game, the George seems to me to be the most important mid war plane to get early.

Some recent moves:

Bought out a division and it is going to Guam....

Air transporting out of Solomons/Marshall some troops...

Continue to send some float fighters in Marshalls...I think I will fly some small amount of AV into a dot base and sent the float fighters there.

Stalemate in lower Burma, still holding on the Burma road...Allies will need to bring in fresh troops to displace me.

Looking to move more AA into the SRA oil and Chinese oil fields...

Saving supplies, as always!

No night bombing.

Japanese air forces leave damaged Moulmein, which gets swept and bombed, but by a lot less bombers this day. Only AA there and they knock down another B24D1 and damage many more.

I have been making efforts to get all the JNAF Engineering squads their TOE upgrade with machine cannon AA guns. If Allies fly low they are pretty good.

Typical bombing in Solomons and Marshalls. Moving in some traps...float fighters and Zeroes.

Nothing terribly exciting in the ground combat...

American sub penetrates the planes and ships to sink an oiler in Guam. Fully loaded, well almost, unloaded 540 units of fuel...before burning up.

July almost done...August will be even more dangerous!

Night bombing at Pisanuloke: Irvings and Dinah's mix it up for no meaningful damage.

Normal day bombing in Marshalls and Solomons. Rexs and Rufes fly in the Solomons; Zeroes over Lunga. For the Day we down 4 b24 and one B25.

Lightnings sweep Rabaul, where I lightened the CAP a little for the trap in the lower Solomons, but 6 or so twin tailed devils are no more (only about 2-1 in favor of the Allies) I will move some Georges in now!

Off the Burma coast; two IJN Destroyers continue to hit the horde of single ship PT or MGB boats lining the coastline. This time, in three individual fights, the IJN sinks one PT boat, damages a second and fails to hit a third.

However the three fights limit the destroyer squadrons move, and they get attacked by some divebombers, with one bomb hit and that destroyer needs to head back to Singers now.

What a pain all these single ship task forces are. The MGB can be the worst, since they can attack and damage subs in coastal waters, while the PT boats are very quick and tough to kill.

A typical bombardment at Tuang Gyi.

Allies bombed here today, too, and the AA and terrain and weather and forts prevented any damage.

It's almost certainly the mountain guns, which suck. It won't hurt him too much, and your supply loss plus their exp gain might be worth it.

Misc notes on unit usage:

Here are some ways I am using my assets:

Float Planes:
Jakes, Alf: are used in the naval search role primarily, especially looking for subs at night.
Glen: sub search
Petes: Aerial CAP at night!. Works great.
Norm: Long range anti shipping platform. Not tested yet.
Rex, Rufes: CAP from bases with destroyed airfields, dot bases, etc, trying to pick off bombers. Third line CAP over bases.

Submarines: Picket duty, very few on raiding mission. They are my distant eyes and ears looking for potential invasion fleets off Kuriles, Perth (especially Perth), Ceylon, Wake, etc. Some are running supplies to the Marshalls to keep the AA guns firing.

Midget subs: I had swarmed most of them at Wake, recently sent them back to the pools. I have a few patrolling around Truk. I see these as a gift to the Allies. I am thinking of hoarding them until the Marianas or Luzon is threatened and then spawning and sending them in from contested bases in one large midget submarine banzai charge.

Big ships: showing the flag, fleet in being, trying not to risk anything larger than a destroyer.

No night bombing.

Heavy bombing and sweeps in Indochina and Burma and Marshalls and Solomons.

Jugs and George mix it up over Pisa in Indochina and 6 Jugs get shot down...10 Georges lost, but plenty of other Oscars and Tojo IIc go down too. A good day overall in the air for the Allies, again.

Borders blatantly stolen from Obvert's AAR...

So, this means that Paoshan to Kunming can get supplies from Burma, but the Burma Road bonus (500 daily supply) is still closed.

Can enough supply flow into China this way to mount an effective Allied offense? I will have to beef up the units blocking the roads into China proper and develop a more in depth defense there.

Will American and British tanks be running wild in the Central Plains of China?

Night bombing at Pisa in Indochina.

Heavy Allied bombing and sweeps all over. At least a dozen Lightnings downed, but with the advent of Jugs and Corsairs I bet he looks at theses guys as almost expendable assets. Many planes destroyed on the ground from the bombing. Raheng Triangle and Bangkok air fields fully operational, but those forward of there are getting pounded. Lots of Allied shipping at Ramree.

The British City of Hankow is torpedoed twice more and goes down off Perth. Recon at Perth shows only 7 ships, AP, CM, xAK. I will check the facility tomorrow.

In China bombard at Chengtu, deliberate attack on the road system and destroy 200 more Chinese squads.

No night bombing.

Got caught by a Jug sweep; 5 Jugs down for 25 Tojo IIc. Pretty normal ratio there.

Allied bombers hit Tuang Gyi, trying to soften the troops there, but the AA and terrain baffles them.

Lighter Allied bombing in the Marshalls, Solomons. Wake hit by 4E bombers too. 4 of the big beasties downed, as Rex and Rufes challenge the heavy bombers.
