Black screen after combat resolution - 12/18/2014 2:19:40 AM

Status: offline 		At the end of each combat my screen goes black for a couple of seconds and the info bar at the top says "program not responding". I don't get to see the message telling me what the combat result was. Everything seems fine and I can continue but does the same thing with the next combat. I have 2 computers that I run the game on. My ASUS 17" has an i7 processor and an NVIDIA graphics processor (this is the one with the problem). My other computer is an ASUS 15" with an i5 processor and the standard Intel graphics processor. Any ideas as to why this might be happening?

Thanks for any help with this.

Status: offline 		Sorry forgot to add that both computers have Windows 8.1 and yes the 17" is an ASUS Republic of Gamers gaming laptop with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660M graphics processor.

Status: offline 		I am having the same fault, playing Husky intro as Allies human v Axis computer. The black screens appeared after axis turn combat resolution, preventing the reading of the combat results. (Able to access this info after from the commanders report)

My laptop is HP Pavilion, Windows 7 Home Premium, AMD dual core M620 2.5ghz, Video ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4530 series.

Sorry did not save, will do so in my next gaming session.

Status: offline 		Attached a save just after experiencing the black screen. Actually it was the Allied combat turn, so my memory in the post above may be mistaken. The attack was 3rd US Inf Division into hex 146/292. Hope this helps.

Status: offline 		Am I get it right that you see black screen during amphib resolution? Afaik, map refresh is somehow different in order to hide Allied units for the German players.

Status: offline 		I am playing the Allies and the black screen shows up after each ground battle. I checked again today and the problem doesn't start until I have fought a few battles first, then it begins. It is also starting to do it on my other computer also after a few battles. The black screen appears just before you see the final battle resolution. When the screen comes back you can continue with the next battle. I believe I've checked all my settings and don't see anything that seems to be incorrect.

Status: offline 		Ok, I'll try to reproduce it with default settings. Does it show up immediately on the first battle or you need to run it for some time before it goes black?

Status: offline 		I think I finally figured it out. In the Options screen I changed from Windowed to Full Screen mode and I have been playing for about 3 hours now with no black screen appearing. Either the game or my computer doesn't like Windowed mode. If anyone else is having this problem just change to Full Screen.

It doesn't sound as the same. Does it always crash for you in the particular battle? Can you provide a save? Thanks.

Status: offline 		I changed from Windows to full screen mode, and have had a few hours play with no more black screen. Incidentally the game now skips the excellent intro video and goes straight to load screen. My intro video had been playing with a lot of stutter in both sound and video, not sure if this is a problem with the windows mode as well.

It starting to look as some compatibility issue. Video and sound play very well for me on very old machine.

Can you try the following, set game to run in window mode again. Copy \dat\sound folder to something else (disable sounds) and see if you still have black window. Thanks.

Status: offline 		I'm having a similar problem. During the AI turn the program hangs for 5-10 seconds, the screen turns black and the message 'WitW is not responding' appears. But if i wait, it evemtually starts running angain and the turn end correctly.

Status: offline 		That's a windows issue, the game is running but using all of your resources, so Windows thinks it is not responding because it is not refreshing the display.

Status: offline 		In fact it not responding window during AI turn is a game issue, but it very variable and depends on the CPU power.

Initial problem with black outs after the battles is something different and so far I can't replicate it.

Status: offline 		Hmmm, not much luck. I removed the sound folder and reverted to windowed mode, replayed a turn of Husky from my saved file. I managed to play a good series of deliberate and hasty attacks with no sign of the black screen. I then restored the sound folder, replayed another similar turn of Husky, and was unable to experience the black screens!!!. For the last day or so I have been playing a campaign game in full screen mode and have had no black screens after combat with this.
