Burma sure looks tough: the Allies have 5 divisons plus 2/3rds of a Chinese corp SE of Prome, and 3 Divisions and 9 tank units and a horde of artillery (some really nasty ones) east of Tuang Gyi.

I wish the monsoon would effect his supply some. Could be worse, he could be ground bombing me and eating up even more supply. I am bombing the tank army just to eat up his supply. Hope the Allies don't cotton on to that strategy.

It would be nice if I could get some troops out of China, but so far I have only be able to afford one division and it is a long march to somewhere useful.

When I took over the game, one goal was to get to 44 with Palembang oil. Can I make it? Three months is a long time...

If you please, as a point of reference on the R&D subject:
at this point how many x(30) factories do you have repaired/repairing on the Rocket Engine and Air Frame and for the end of war fighter models.

Thanks in advance.

Bear in mind, I started the research from scratch in late 42. None of the factories are fully repaired to 30 for the KI202 or the Sam J. The best factory is at 16, the worst probably 3, maybe 2!

Also, they both use engines that need researching. I have 3 engine factories researching and that adds 3 percent per day to the acceleration or 1 month of game time roughly equals one month of acceleration.

I went super big into the Sam J and the Ki202, not a good tactic for a new game.

Spidery has documented his plane research very well in his AAR and is worth looking at. Obvert vs Jocke is another one. There are more out there that are good Mike's, Greyjoy's, M-M's, etc.

5 size 30 factories repaired, plus engine bonus - 10 percent acceleration per day! 1 month every 10 days. Adds up fast!

Crunch time coming...

No night bombing.

The big news, the midget sub attack at Akyab and Ceylon...the first Iboat approaches Akyab, contact...

But, then, the usual....

I had both Iboats remain on station on the off chance they could pick up any survivors, the Captains on those midgets were pretty good. Not sure if I got them back or not.

At least no Iboats were sunk.

I will continue on this program despite the early setbacks.!

EDIT: Actually only the Iboat at Colombo stuck around, the Iboat at Akyab left -- maybe is she stuck around I would have saved the midget.

The IJA trashes more Chinese, no news really in that.

In Burma plenty of action. The Allied juggernaut of death pushes the IJA back a hex east of Toungoo. The IJAAF bombed them, and they lack any AA that can reach 19K. Unfortunately, the IJAAF can't get any hits either.

Well, the turn is off, the guessing done.

I decided to send only one bombardment at Car Nicobar, escorted by four SAG. The rest of the 4th Inf should land at Trinkat, and 400 fighters are watching over everything with an addition 50 fighter sweep of Car Nicobar. All ships are ordered to regroup at Trinkat, hopefully under a huge fighter CAP.

Of course, nothing ever works as planned.

Rationale: I think the Allies are running in a good surface action group at nights to Car Nicobar and returning to Port Blair. I don't want my best ships in bombardment mode when they should be looking for night battles. A little leery of the moonlight...none.

If everything works well, the small ships brush aside the PT boats, heavy night search allows my surface groups to have 3 engagements with Allied forces or more and we retreat safely under an air umbrella. Car Nicobar is bombarded, and then swept by fighters in the daytime weakening any offensive escorts.

At least that is the plan...we will see what happens. Another large surface action group arrives at the staging hex, too.

I spent considerable amount of time finding the hole in Allied search --- I sure hope this is a big surprise for the Allies.

If only my commanders can follow my instructions, or actually improve on them.

This marks the first use of the Ki100-I. Not in great numbers, but some are on LRCAP, others sweeping where I think they will fight against P40s.

However, the plane that continues to impress is the lowly Oscar. Oscar IV is a deceptively good plane. Very versatile, the low durability lets me fly it into island bases where it can repair quickly and fly out again. The dual cannons are good and can tangle with the Allies. Range is good.

Here is hoping the Tony also impresses me....or it will be another game where George is everywhere. It is funny how a 100 Georges make you feel pretty safe, that is 10 hexes or more away from the Allies.

Despite the Tojo IIc speed and climb advantage, I will take Oscar IV over them. Tojo IIc is just not lethal enough.

Next month I will have a sentai of Jacks up and about. Curious to see how they perform relative to the George.

The big question: How many IJN ships run into mines?

I am going to guess 2 hits.

Sept 29, 1943

No night bombing. Amazing what two sentais of Irving -s can stop.

The night is black, no stars, overcast with squalls, the moon dark. Perfect weather for PT boats, the bane of the IJN.

The hardest working heavy cruiser in the Japanese fleet is the Tone. Inspiringly led by Bunji Asakura. It was Asakura that led the Tone in a shocking raid of Perth harbor leaving death and destruction. Prior to that he raided the far northwest coast of India sinking several ships and then turning on the pursuers and sinking them too.

Now, he was tasked with sneaking into Car Nicobar and bombarding the airfield there for the planes must be destroyed prior to the 4th Infantry's landing at Trinkat.

This time was different, Bunji was well escorted with fast destroyers, light cruiser forces, all designed to sweep the PT Boats aside and clear the way for Bunji to unleash the full fury of his guns and ammunition on the hapless Allies at Car Nicobar.

But, as fate would have it, Bunji found himself alone again! His support taskforces lost contact, radio silence had to be maintained, and the night was so dark.

Would Bunji and the Tone be up to the task? Caught by PT Boats and their damn radar 50 miles out of Car Nicobar...

Not again, as the PT boats regroup and try to slow the Tone and Bunji down, but Bunji quickly extricates his task force and makes for Car Nicobar dodging several torpedoes.

Where are the support task forces?

The burning ships provide plenty of illumination to fire on the Allied airbases! A spotting Jake walks the rounds in...goodness, there are Thunderbolts on the island. At least one squadron...high priority target them and the bombers!

With dawn coming, the Tone and company turn to Trinkat and a fighter umbrella (hopefully). Ammunition depleted, torpedoes spent, and no mines hit!

Meanwhile, with the breaking dawn Georges and Tonies sweep Car Nicobar and meet some defenders. These sweeps were designed to keep fighters flying CAP from a damaged runway an prevent them from joining any retaliatory naval strike. Mission accomplished.

But Bunji and Tone aren't safe yet, entering Trinkat a destroyer hits a mine, and blows up!

And then, the weary sailors must man battlestations waiting for the predictable Allied air attack.

And they come, whirling dancing death in the sky above the Tone. The Avengers are making a run on her, the Tone builds speed, circles, avoiding the enemy minefield while the Japanese fighters try to get passed the Allied fighter escort...

Three Avengers survive long enough to make runs, but the Tone dodges easily.

And, no rest for Bunji as the American four engined beasts come roaring in to be met by Oscar, Tony, George and Tojo.

Finally, the Allied air fury is spent, and Bunji looks at the port of Trinkat...overflowing with battleships, cruisers, troop transports, destroyers, E's, light cruisers. Not a one of them has fired a shot.

Tomorrow will be their day! 6 Hexes to Port Blair, 2 to Car Nicobar and all those damaged planes. Banzai!

I have lost over 20 ships to enemy mines...and my predecessor lost all but two DMS.

Lousy low value Allied cargo ships, their numbers are like sand on the beach.

Why in the world would there be a depleted infantry divison there?

Don't like the sound of that, but where would they have loaded up at? No transports at Rangoon. Further back? Flown away?

Whatever it is, I don't like it!

I took time out and watched the play by play of the air to air war to get a handle on Tony, and I think although it is a good plane, the Oscar IV is probably better.

With dual centerline cannons the Oscar can kill, about the only area the Tony did better was forcing home attacks on the 4Es, Oscars are just a little frail for that job, but still very respectable.

The Tony was better than the Tojo, which really only damages enemy fighters. The Tony killed a few outright.

More experimentation is obviously needed.

In other planes news, the first Nick D NF factory is fully repaired and researching. Nothing great here, I will probably get the Nick D 2-3 months early so say Jan - Feb 44. Could use them earlier I think my oil will be in peril well before then.
