Hey,

there are several artillery, engineer, flak and air units organized under armies in the polish scenario. But soon they are out of reach of the armies (green hexes) - should I better connect them to nearby HQs even though they have too many units attached to them then?

I cannot say if it is best or not, but I more often then not I assign them to other HQ's that need the extra fire power (to soften fortified areas)or air defense (not so likely in the Polish campaign).

Thanks - still wondering a bit how HQ bonuses and supply work and how they are best organized...

The moral and combat bonus system would be with the command they are under currently...so if you transfer them they will assume the bonus of their new command (these are listed in the officer pop-up when you left click on the officers picture in the info bar, also if the general has a percentage number beneath his picture if you right click on this percentage it will display the specific details of the bonuses or penalties). Your unit needs to be within "range" of the current command and you can see this by going to prefs (top right) and enabling "HQ power range". The dark green is full bonus and each color change radiating out is a lower percentage...do not know the particulars. To see the supply range if you click on an HQ you will see what looks like a fuel/jerry can icon, click on this and it will display the supply layer. Again, darker green is 100% supply and other colors indicate a lesser percentage. Another thing to be aware of when you assign units to other commands is to make sure that the command has enough staff. If you click on the HQ you want to see the staff to troop ratio to be 1 (shows as S:T=)anything below this starts to incur a penalty, for specifics click on the "Unit Details" tab and look under "stats"...then there is also the O:S ratio (officer to staff ratio)to be aware of. Seems complex but once you realize if you just right click on this ratios and numbers the game will display an explanation and after doing this a few times you start to remember. Even to this day if I have not played in awhile I have to do this to refresh my memory. Hope this helps. Reading the smallish manual will help...somewhat...it is kinda sparse on detail.
