TOTAL LOSSES from bombardments at Chungking: June 07 - 30, 1943 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've been looking at the CRs for the Chungking bombardments and I'm starting to wonder if they're more deceiving than I'd even thought before. There is definitely FOW here, but as you loo through notice the gun numbers are pretty stable for the Japanese in spite of supposedly large losses. The vehicle numbers fluctuate more, but not close to what is claimed in the CRs. I'm thinking two things. One, the units attacking are just the arty units and some damage may be going to other units in the hex that I then won't see reflected in the total numbers for each attack. Two, the reports, if they reflect actual numbers at all, seem to show disabled devices as 'present' in the attack regardless of whether they participate or not. So it's tough to determine if he's really taking losses in these bombardments or not. It's just something to do while Nick is away visiting his father, but makes me think I do need a bit more arty here and I'll only know whether it's effective in counter-bombarding when those bombardments are actually forced to stop! As shown below (and with a few CRs missing as well) the number of guns lost or disabled according to the CRs during this period exceed the number of guns that are actually here. Of course some could be destroyed/disabled in units not participating in the bombardments, but it seems highly unlikely that ALL guns affected would be from those units, and it's also unlikely a large number would be fixed in an enemy controlled hex quickly enough to continue with daily bombardments if losses were actually this severe.
