I will be putting together a number of videos once we have the final builds. I will post them when they are ready.

Most will be short, how-to's and I may do some AAR's.

After this game, we're going to work on Vietnam and a large update to the Campaign Series to bring it up to current standards.

Cold War is expected after Vietnam.

Ufff a lot of time ouf of this... great images and you are accepting petitions... radiostyle

Ummm a video... could be a good idea, to see helicopters and in my case the more modern tanks... why not Libano 82???

I know that are a lot of guys with Vietnam but i think in my case i am going to wait WWIII title... and if you work in the WWI title i am going to follow it.

Thanks for the images and all you can leak

PD: the WWIII title is only the usual area in Fulda gap or you cover to north, south and other fronts (Scandinavia, South Europe, Korea...) thanks.

Cold War will not be so much or at all a hypothetical WWIII title. Rather a game about all of the smaller "pocket wars" during the Cold War Era, for instance:

  • Korean War
  • Soviet-Afghani War
  • Iran-Iraq War [edited into list later]
  • Indo-Pakistani Wars
  • Falklands War
  • wars in Africa, and other proxy wars
  • various civil wars, wars of independence, and border wars
  • etc.

We might do a NATO War game, about your suggested "WWIII", after Cold War. Or some of that might be merged into Cold War. We'll see.

One reason why we don't rush headlong into a WWIII-like NATO War game: advances in weaponry.

Jet airplanes of all types (with H2H air combat), helicopters, SAMs and other missiles, guidance control systems, napalm, tactical nukes (!), etc., etc. -- the list goes on and on.

Programming all of that is a challenge. We are doing some of that in Middle East, also in the Vietnam game. But NATO War, a WWIII-like game, in Europe and beyond? A daunting challenge. It stretches the Campaign Series paradigm (and code!) way far, perhaps to the breaking point.

O, i see, is more a Cold Wars title than a Cold War title... maybe is less interesting by the scen types, only maybe Desert Storm could offer masive armored combats (but not very fair) and Korea but with more infantry job.

Maybe i see the title more like WWIII in Europe and maybe Asia (with ArabIsrael wars you have the maps to cover the area to) with bonus scens covering historical conflicts in cold war period.

I think my confusion comes from the mod of WWIII for Campaigns serie.

Well, anyway we are talking about a .... 2018 release (with luck), a lot of time

PD: with the first modern title a great part of features of modern combat are covered... maybe the complicated area is the soviet tanks using reactive armor and guide shells... i think BMP-1 dual weapon system is covered in the title no???

We don't envision the game Cold War encompassing the Gulf Wars, which after all extend past the Cold War period.

NATO War -- your imagined game of global WWIII -- that would be a "hot war", not a Cold War, right?

The later you go, the greater the likelihood of aircraft-vs-aircraft real-time air combat factoring into the tactical battlefield. Among many other aspects of the modern battlefield, that presents huge challenges to the game paradigm, not to mention the coding. For conflicts from the 1980s and beyond, we would probably need a whole new game engine. Not on my watch, probably.

No, after Cold War, we might do NATO War, but it's just as likely, if not more likely, that we will turn our focus backward in time, to WWI. (Which presents its own paradigm challenges, of course.)

At this point, it's all very speculative. Let's release Middle East, then next year Vietnam and the JTCS "mega patch". Then we'll see.

Well, for me Gulf war enter in cold war era... the dissolution of the Soviet Union was formally enacted on December 26, 1991 after Gulf war and well, one side was equiped mainly with soviet material.

Maybe is more logical as you say create a dedicated "hot war" title but now with no "heavy metal" action i lose interest in game, as is modeled infantry in game i feel lower interest in wars with not a lot big toys.

New engine for moder war... ummm i think if you stop it in middle 80s is not necesary... lets see how works ME4885, cant wait it, expect i can buy it first day but well, i have other things in my list and allways can appear unspected things (i buy 3 books last yesterday... one about Leningrad siege and 2 about WWI naval warfare... Konisberg hunt and british Q ships use).

Anyway thanks for the fast reply and continue with cool screenshots

PD: one option could be add a few bonus scens in title with hypotetical WWIII in 50s, 60s or 70s.

    PD2: maybe Iran-Irak war???

Iran-Iraq War can easily fit in the Cold War title.

I have already started researching some battles that would be interesting to play out.

As would the Iraqi-Kurd fighting in the 60's and 70's.

Like you, I am also interested in a "NATO vs WARSAW PACT" game.

Within the scope of the current engine, representing various ground combat What-If's in the late 40's through 70's wouldn't pose too much of a challenge. The 80's get a bit more complicated, especially post 1985.

There are things that cannot be represented, primarily tactical nuclear weapons. (Davy Crocket and things)

It may turn into a pet project.

Here is a screenshot of a few Cobra's hunting some T-72's from a test-bed scenario (this won't be included in the game).

    A couple things to note:

    1. Line of Sight is activated for the two Cobra flights. Notice that from their current Flight Zone Level (which is Nap of the Earth), they can see over the buildings to fire their TOW's. If the Cobra's were landed, their Line of Sight would be blocked.

    2. The Cobra's don't have an infinite amount of TOW's. This means that when they run out, they will have to return for resupply. There is a brand new supply system that deals with this specific item.

Thanks for the fast reply and the pic... T-72s are using camo or i need go to my oculist or shot my poor and old screen to cut his pain??? sorry but the only new improvement in zoom in is in 2D no??? i dont remember read about an extra 3D zoom in level...

Well, in a WWIII i am more interested in tactical combat and not in use nukes... even chemical warfare is not "fun" at all... in Tiller Modern titles i prefer not use that kind of weapons at all, i prefer the old fire and maneuver i am a little classic

For a WWIII title could be cool set it in 80s BUT with versions of same scens/campaigns in 70s, 60s and 50s, try same scen but with diferent hardware... sure this made NATO life less "fun"

EDIT: the resupply system only works for helicopters??? i ask this because i think in AT missile units or selfpropeleed artyllery units... in Tiller modern titles he used a HQ for heli units to resupply them... they need retreat to the HQ and resuply here... in Flashpoint is abstract, heli units retreat from first line and resupply but you dont know exactly where they are going to do it.

    Thanks.

EDIT2: i am idiot... thanks to consider Iran Irak War... out of the use of chemicals is very similar to late wars covered in ME4585.

Yes, the T-72's are using camo. Keep in mind, the tank graphics for the Syrians may change by the time it is released. The graphics artist is updating a large number of the platoon graphics. The Syrians haven't been touched yet. The Israeli's have though, as you can see with the nice clean look of the Cobra's.

We went with the requirement of flying back to the parent HQ to resupply. If the parent HQ is destroyed, your resupply is null.

Reading about the battles, many of them turned in infantry slug fests. Still interesting to represent though, especially the fighting around Basra
