ORIGINAL: leehunt27@bloomberg.net The "hex of Death" issue is very serious-- i just had two retreating Royal Thai divisions basically obliterated in the open in June 1944. Curious how strong his LBA forces are for bombing the Home Islands. Are you seeing waves of hundreds of B-24's and B-29's? What kind of Experience and Air Skill do your fighters have etc? What fighter combos are working best for you? (I've gone full out with Ki-84 Franks for the Army and N1K1 George's for the Navy-- both seem to hold their own against bombers) He hit Gifu with about 100 4E beasties last turn (50 in the biggest and first wave, many smaller waves after that)...by far the best bomber killer is the Ki100I. It is deadly with twin cl cannons and SR1 so that is lasts thru all the bomber waves. The Allies like to focus on a single target, wave after wave, and the Georges and Franks can run out of steam thru the bomber waves although the George is very, very good. I have only seen the one B29 raid. I am hoping the SR2 Jack, J2M3, with four cannons might give the Tony a run for the money. I am now upgrading my Frank squadrons with 80+ experience pilots, but I have been able to maintain 60-70 air skill pretty well depending upon air frames. The lower skill pilots are further away and really just contend with Lightnings and Bombers, but for the most part the Allies don't go there. They like bombing at extended Jugs sweeps range. Where Jugs can sweep, I need Frank, Tony and George. J2M2 has been disappointing against enemy fighters, kind of like the Tojo IIc. Where Jugs can't sweep, but Lightnings can, really any later planes work well even the A6M5c. Just numbers really, so you can stack your CAP and fly low. I am almost never over 12K. I have been disappointed with Oscar IV, even with twin cl cannons, the planes often can't close in on the 4E beasties. But flying low, they provide a crucial layer to the CAP and provide a shield for the Franks and Georges. I also have gone to concentrating my fighters, say at Tokyo, and from there they have protected everything out to one hex nicely. If I based fighters in both Maebashi and Tokyo, often times the fighters would not bleed over even though one base is not targeted. This is probably not a good tactic if the Allies decided to bomb multiple bases, but so far he hasn't done that. You also need lots of radar warning... I have learned so much from playing thru this. It is incredible to me how much more I understand, and would do much differently.
