Hi. I have a simple question. Please tell me - at the moment this game is still supported by the developers?

michaelm, one of the original developers is still doing bugs fixes and the occasional tweak. A patch was released a couple of months ago.

I'm one of the developers too, but I haven't been working on the code for a couple of years.

Thanks. I just want to find out for sure - the game will be adapted to Windows 10 and high resolution of modern monitors?

People are able to get the game to run on Windows 10 with some command line switches, and there are some other command line switches already there to change the resolution. The game needs the switches to work without slow downs on most newer computers, but that's the only issue people run into with newer OSs. There are even some people who have managed to get the game to run under WINE in Linux.

There have been many threads lately with people getting the game to run under Windows 10.

Yes, thank you. I have already read. But I still haven't managed to make it work on Win 10 even at low resolution. I hope the developers will take care of the necessary release of a patch which will allow you to play without crutches.

Windows 10 isn't technically out of Beta yet. I am on the auto upgrade list and I haven't been upgraded yet because Microsoft is doing a rolling upgrade. Even though it is not stable they won't release the reasons for the various patches that have already come out.

My suggestion is to downgrade to Windows 8.1. This game works fine on it. The reason the Macintosh is so easy to use is that Apple has complete control of the hardware and developers can test on a stable platform. Any Windows machine is going to have issues because the hardware changes from computer to computer. I know a lot of PC gamers and they always seem to be having to tweak something to get things to work right.

The developers have done an excellent job of keeping this game playable over many years.

The only thing I want from the Developers is a Macintosh version of WITPAE.

They didn't do that when Windows 8 or 8.1 came out, what makes you think they would do so for Windows 10. Especially when the four page thread on Windows 10 which is just a few threads down from this current thread shows how the command line switches/compatability mode can be used under Windows 10 for the minority of owners who have "upgraded" their OS.

It is very significant to note what wdolson stated michaelm is still engaged on. Complete silence on anything as big as updating the code to run under Windows 10.

The command line switches (placed in a shortcut so they are retained and need not be typed again) are an integral part of tuning the game for specific PCs and for the preferences of specific users. They are not crutches.

Yes, I understand. But in some games the screen resolution is placed in the game options. It really is much easier than to search for answers on the forum. Developers must try this

Something you might not be aware of: the entire development team for AE was volunteer, as has been all of the ongoing support. The development team was large and varied, and the game would never have been available to us at anything close to the price it has been if the effort was 100% funded.

What you suggest is entirely reasonable. But when it comes to something that already exists in a slightly different form (in this case putting switches in the shortcut), it's unlikely that a volunteer will spend the great amount of time needed to do that, test it, and so on. They (MichaelM lately) actually spend a great deal of personal time on fixing minor bugs and making various improvements in the game and its user interface, many at uses' requests.

So for the developers its a matter of donating personal time, and for us users/customers its a matter of realizing that and prioritizing the requests that we make. And of course helping each other out with support/questions etc..

If you really must use a mouse rather than a keyboard you could easily write a GUI wrapper to launch the program command line executable with the appropriate command line switches.

Personally I don't think it would be worth going to all the effort to develop such a tool when a shortcut can be created in about 30 seconds and once you have found a set of command line switches that work for you, you will probably never change them again.

I'd like to volunteer. Experience with Java and C. Programming for 26 years with many many languages if this isn't coded in Java or C.

I'd like to report a defect also. It's clear that when setting to naval attack/rest and then setting a training %, the code is thinking that rest is a secondary mission and setting the training to general when it should set the training to the primary mission.

This causes major headaches when training to train your pilots and defend a theater. This isn't an issue with fighters because there isn't a secondary mission, so the code correctly determines a single mission and set the training to that mission. So you can both train and defend. Same with ASW missions and other similar types.

This occurs on air groups where a second mission is allowed and because, again, the code is thinking that rest is a secondary mission when in reality, it's simply the default mission when doing nothing else and should say "No Mission" or something like that.

A simple fix that I would like to make if possible.

Hi Vicberg.

It might be worth starting another thread in this Tech Support forum area so that your fault report above is not buried deep in a thread and MichaelM has a chance of seeing it.

What does 100% funded mean precisely...I seem to recall spending 100 or so bucks for the game at the time.
Also saying it was primarily volunteers that made the game dosnt make sense, if that was the case. why wasn't it free then?
