1944 August 19 The Empire captured: The Allies captured: There were Imperial amphibious or airborne operations at: There were Allied amphibious or airborne operations at: Bandjermasin Imperial Naval Bombardments Allied Naval Bombardments: Allied Ships Bombarding Ulithi Allied Ships Bombarding Ternate Our subs are racing toward their newly assigned stations with vigor! Quiet in China. Air attacks and many units moving on the SEAC front. Tomorrow both combat units that seized Victoria Point will make Chumphon and block retreat from any points north of there. Coordinating with that, our units at Prachuap Khiri Khan will make their first attack. Victoria Point base facilities are repairing slowly, but more support units will arrive tomorrow, so the effort will begin to gain momentum. The B-29 groups at Moulmein have been ordered to hit the Light Industry at Changsha tomorrow. There are more than 70 of the Superfortresses ready now and likely a few more will come ready overnight. That is about half of those present - hanger queens! Range of the mission is 28 hexes, just inside normal range. The full-on attack against the 22nd Ind.Mixed Brigade SE of Vinh was devastating. quote:

The attack will continue until the foe slips out of range. The units at Vinh are recovering quite nicely after their robust defense upon taking up residence. Tomorrow also will be the first attack by three armored units against an unknown enemy unit 2 hexes NW of Vinh. Cross your fingers! The 3-squadron LRCAP over the battle hex SE of Vinh earned their pay. quote:

The pickup of the NZ 15th Bde (sans a few stragglers) at Puerto Princesa was completed without incident under guard of a cruiser TF. New sub deployments were set up in the waters east of Singapore to support the upcoming invasion of Kuching. The guns have landed at Bandjermasin. quote:

It is possible that they will face enemy reinforcements arriving down the very road they themselves arrived on. The next attack at Dili is also tomorrow, but we know how stubborn that lot has been. It looks like Fletcher production is done (although more might come from the Atlantic later on) and I am getting Sumner class destroyers now. Many, many CVE are eligible for significant AA suite upgrades in September, less than 2 weeks away. The upgrades require a shipyard to start and would either delay the Okinawa operation or pull ships out of it. On the other hand the AA effectiveness of those ships would more than double, no trivial matter. I think I will proceed with the Okinawa operation as currently planned. Once some air bases are established, I will begin rotating out CVE for their upgrades. Indochina.
