I would assume he would pull an allied move and concentrate on the island. I would expect a leisurely drive south.

Mostly. I think he will leave speed bumps to maximize the time involved, with Singapore being the major redoubt.

The armored spearhead will be very big, with large infantry division complements. I intend to blow through everything with weight of force while preparing units for Singapore itself.

Doesn't look like Vinh will too much of strongpoint. Interesting attack there the other day.

If you mean the Imperial attack, I agree. Although the Empire did not get hurt very much, except the commanders might skip shaving for a few days so they don't have to look in the mirror.

I really wish those two infantry divisions could move a bit faster to close the noose!

You had mentioned that you were thinking about invading Okinawa.

Have you decided to put such an invasion on the back-burner?

I am watching the Vinh siege with great anticipation as to whether the Evil Empire heads out or stays and fights.

Best Regards,

-Terry

No way! Okinawa is the next big operation. There has been a time-warp because stupid RL issues have slowed down the turn rate for us. The amphibious operations that are coming off in the meantime are small fry.

Several Essex carriers are still getting their critical AA upgrades and need a little more than a week to finish up at Pearl Harbor, then get to the front. Saratoga is repairing at Truk and also needs about a week. I'm beginning work on moving assault units to staging areas where they can combat load without spending too much time at sea. Part of that effort is figuring out where to stuff them! Stacking limits, stacking limits... One thing I want to accomplish is having second wave troops (including for other islands) close enough forward that the attack transports can make a round trip in as short a time as possible. For example, Daito Shoto.

I've pretty much decided to knock out Daito Shoto's airfield with B-29 from the Marianas, right after knocking out both Okinawa airfields with the same. What I am thinking about now is bringing invasion forces directly to Okinawa and landing them there. Then have the attack transport convoys get back to the Marianas and pick up the Daito Shoto invasion force and land there ASAP. Okinawa will not require a shock attack, so our guys can land there (at both bases) and 'hang out' until good and ready to make their first assault. But Daito Shoto will require a landing-shock attack so everything has to land at once and in concert with air and naval bombardments. Getting Daito Shoto will allow us to move PacAO (Nimitz) there to support the Naha (Okinawa) battles (100% prepared)

The Marianas are pretty stuffed right now so I also have to see what engineers and such I can pull out to make room for assault units. I'm thinking that after the Okinawa invasion loads up and moves out the civilian transport can move the Daito Shoto invasion units in to transition to combat mode. then, the next wave is the various smaller islands around Okinawa. Even while the Okinawa battle is still in progress we can invade many of the surrounding islands. The faster we get any air bases at all operating, the better.

Only after all of that do we task attack transports and covering forces for Formosa.

BTW the current fleet upgrade and repair pause is also allowing continued production of F6F-5 so we can upgrade more carriers' fighter groups prior to the operation.

Here are the BB and carriers currently repairing. There are also two CVL on their way to Pearl Harbor, but they and the two longest estimate BB will miss all or part of the Okinawa campaign.

1-inf Rgt with an Armies worth of support. Interesting.....I believe you will be able to enjoy
the best gin in Singers without to much fuss. He may have units on the trails, but I doubt much
after the wonderful uppercut across the bay.

Actually looking at the map, Singers might better serve as a POW camp...

I would agree with you except the Allies can use the shipyard. I am sure Saigon is not able to keep up with the damaged ships from the frantic operations.

Saigon is great for DD and CLAA. But even though it can repair CVE it can't handle the sheer volume of my incompetence!

The Singapore Shipyard will be very nice to get on line and fully repaired. Of course, Hong Kong shipyard is undamaged.

I forgot that the less than 1 to 1 odds reset the orders, so there was only the artillery bombardment today. At least the attack tomorrow will be with all troops fresh. There were several enemy air strikes on our position there today, obviously aimed at spoiling an attack. Today's trikes had heavy escort that shot down a P-47 and pushed through the rest. And there was enemy LRCAP over the hex. Tomorrow two additional groups of P-47 will be on LRCAP (three total) and two P-51 groups will sweep overhead. At Vinh itself Australia's 27th Bde has arrived and is digging in with its two division mates. Their arrival has flipped the western hex side.

3 more miles made for each of the two infantry divisions crossing the jungle to the NW, giving them 4 and 5 more days to go, respectively. The first of the armored units has made contact with the unidentified unit two hexes NW of Vinh and two more armored units will arrive tomorrow. The three will attack without Intel then, as additional armor is several more days behind.

Lots more engineering units and another base force have arrived at Hue. The two P-47 groups noted above (adding to LRCAP) have therefore moved to Hue, less than half the distance for their mission. Hue airfield is size 3 + 32%.

The 3 damaged CVE at Saigon are making ready to move to Cam Ranh Bay where they will make temporary repairs before moving on to Pearl Harbor. Many subs and a few other small vessels from as far away as Guam are heading for the shipyard at Saigon, which is much more valuable restoring small, lightly damaged ships and subs to full front-line performance.

The attack on Dili went very well despite the low odds obtained. Peleliu is ours and is a totally wrecked smoking mess.

30 squads disabled out of unadjusted AV of 45 should allow for a breakthrough with the next attack at Dili.

A supply convoy of LST at Taytay and a troop convoy at Puerto Princesa (to pick up an NZ Bde for Ulithi) were both attack by swarms of what were likely Kamikaze from Iloilo, but Spitfire Mk VIII from Puerto Princesa show down all of them. A large pulse of subs is leaving Guam for the waters north of Okinawa, primarily to intercept commerce between China and Japan.

Indochina.

Here are the assigned combat LCU for the Okinawa operation and their present locations. Roundup time! I just added a flame tank Bn that arrived today to Okinoerabushima. Just east of Nago, it's the smallest potential air base and it's capture could be delayed without a big fuss I think.

I should point out that 6 divisions can not land at Naha without starving to death, let alone with all the other units tasked to assault that target. I'll take a closer look at the stacking limits and decide whether 2 or 3 or (doubtful) 4 divisions land in the first wave. The remaining divisions will be fully prepared relief for any divisions that need to be pulled out. I do want to land all of the other forces in the first wave. All of that armor should help a lot.

And those USMC Rgts on Yap are the 6th Marine Division. In looking at the commanders (all good ones) I'm tempted to keep them separate so they can be used piecemeal where needed as time goes on.

OK, here are the stacking limits:

30k Amami Oshima
40k Daito Shoto
25k Kume-jima
35k Nago
50k Naha
30k Okinoerabushima
40k Tokunoshima

All of the troops for Naha (minus PacAO and the Amphib Force HQ, neither of which land) add up to 108,660 stacking value. So if I land all the troops the stacking is just under 218%. Tight but not at all horrible for a well supplied amphibious assault.

A lot depends on how many units I can get into the assault shipping. The plan is to have Naha and Nago both strongly (for self-defense) invested to prevent retreats. If I can bring all the Naha and Nago troops in one go then I will. If I cannot, then maybe I bring as many as possible, holding some of the Naha troops for a second wave. That second wave would ship out just after the Daito Shoto invasion force. The Daito Shoto landing goes in, stabilizes (if not seizing the island quickly, which I know if uncertain) and the transports withdraw while the covering forces pick up escort of the Naha second wave. When Naha and Nago forces are both fully in place and well supplied, they (or at least Naha force alone) attack.

Piece of cake. That plan should last about 8 seconds into the first combat replay!

Can't think of a darn thing that you haven't covered! Looks like you are not going to be using the full 30k at Okinoerabushima. After you take it, Ok. might be a good place to take the beat-up troops you withdraw from combat.

Our subs are racing toward their newly assigned stations with vigor!

Quiet in China.

Air attacks and many units moving on the SEAC front. Tomorrow both combat units that seized Victoria Point will make Chumphon and block retreat from any points north of there. Coordinating with that, our units at Prachuap Khiri Khan will make their first attack. Victoria Point base facilities are repairing slowly, but more support units will arrive tomorrow, so the effort will begin to gain momentum.

The B-29 groups at Moulmein have been ordered to hit the Light Industry at Changsha tomorrow. There are more than 70 of the Superfortresses ready now and likely a few more will come ready overnight. That is about half of those present - hanger queens! Range of the mission is 28 hexes, just inside normal range.

The full-on attack against the 22nd Ind.Mixed Brigade SE of Vinh was devastating.

95 squads disabled! The attack will continue until the foe slips out of range. The units at Vinh are recovering quite nicely after their robust defense upon taking up residence. Tomorrow also will be the first attack by three armored units against an unknown enemy unit 2 hexes NW of Vinh. Cross your fingers! The 3-squadron LRCAP over the battle hex SE of Vinh earned their pay.

A lucky escape! The pickup of the NZ 15th Bde (sans a few stragglers) at Puerto Princesa was completed without incident under guard of a cruiser TF. New sub deployments were set up in the waters east of Singapore to support the upcoming invasion of Kuching.

The guns have landed at Bandjermasin.

Our guys attack tomorrow. It is possible that they will face enemy reinforcements arriving down the very road they themselves arrived on. The next attack at Dili is also tomorrow, but we know how stubborn that lot has been.

It looks like Fletcher production is done (although more might come from the Atlantic later on) and I am getting Sumner class destroyers now. Many, many CVE are eligible for significant AA suite upgrades in September, less than 2 weeks away. The upgrades require a shipyard to start and would either delay the Okinawa operation or pull ships out of it. On the other hand the AA effectiveness of those ships would more than double, no trivial matter. I think I will proceed with the Okinawa operation as currently planned. Once some air bases are established, I will begin rotating out CVE for their upgrades.

Indochina.
