*******************Mandrake's Foreign Languages in Three Easy Steps (on-line version)************

English to Japanese:

1) Substitute "r" sound for "l", you know, say "rike" instead or "like"
2) Get rid of pronouns. Use nouns It's easy, just say "Mandrake-san" instead of "I" except put in your own name.
3) Pretty much get rid of articles too. This is especially convincing.
4) If you find an "r" sound at the "end" of a word it's more like "ah" instead. For example "officer" becomes "OF-ficah". If you are doing this in person nod your head slightly to confer deference.
5) Forget irregular English plural forms. Just put an "s" on end. "Women" becomes "womans"
6) Instead of "yes" say "HAI!" with emphatic head gesture.
7) Insert extra vowel sounds at the end of some hard consonants. Like this. "HAI! Mandrake-san understand-ah". I think just do this kind of randomly otherwise it sounds fake. It takes some practice.

English to Chinese (Mandarin):

1) Substitute "L" sound for "r" as in "Hully up" or "vely much". This is very confusing to beginners and I'm not sure I understand either considering the invaders of the Japans that displaced the Ainu probably came from China. Just trust me.
2) Try to add some "ey" endings to English words for authenticity, as in, "You like-ey flied lice"
3) Note that pronouns are OK. Don't ask me to explain this either.
4) Walk with really close together steps like you have the runs and you are trying to make the can without an accident.

Try these simple steps and you will gain the admiration of native speakers at every turn. You might even get a job at the UN*

Good news! Everything is apparently OK with the Franchise Tax Board! I talked to "Alexis" at the Franchise Tax Board and told her she had a nice sexy radio voice and told her I take care of rescue dogs and after a couple minutes of bullshitting she said..."Mr. Mandrake, don't worry about the tax thing, your return looks fine. I'll mark it approved and you should expect your refund in about 8-12 weeks"

See..who needs an attorney. You just complement women and tell them you take care of rescue dogs and they melt. Now, she may be the weight of an average NFL interior lineman and I only take care of one rescue dog (which I have seriously thought about tying to the bumper on many occasions) but the deed is done.

Is this a "negative refund" that you can be expecting, Cap'n? The FTB has all sorts of clever pseudonyms for BOHICA-derived fees, charges, debits and so forth.

The November date is fine for the trees. I have to make the IRS happy first.

I am having a rusting 1971 VW bus with peace signs and Grateful Dead stickers
delivered and put up on concrete blocks in front of the neighbors house as a
friendly thank you for their neighborly behavior.

Yes, I am well aware of the this. The FTB make the IRS seem like an all-Budhist Brownie Troop.

I am pretty sure I know who complained because SG got into an on-line Facebook fight with the bi-itch daughter-in-law of the neighbors and she referenced the two "dead trees" (two 12 foot California Peppers even though there are 60 foot high 400 year old oaks and huge pines etc.

Pure harassment and revenge. Frau Bluher is a serious improvement over Eva Braun, the previous "compliance officer". Maybe I should tell her I take care of rescue dogs?

You are sooooo lucky you didn't talk to my oldest sister or one of her friends. The sexy voice comments would have gotten you labeled as a Male Chauvinist Pig oppressor of women etc etc etc. You would be working until 130 to pay off your Franchise Tax.

A few years ago I was in Boise Idaho installing some equipment. I had to sign a sexual harassment form saying that I could not say the following words: Darling: Sweetheart, Honey. As someone who grew up in the deep south I found it very discriminatory against some one of my ethnic background.

He wouldn't need a tatami mat. The guy is a trey and a half minimum. He would probably drop dead trying to find the thing. Besides, I don't think he or his wife are responsible. I need to get back at the daughter in law somehow.
