Axis put 2 markers to offence and move a 4 pointer from defence to offence.

US adds 1 chit to the Jap pool. They choose occupy Greenland and Iceland, which on a 7 shifts a chit to the tension pool. Also chosen is to freeze Japanese assets. Tension further escalates on a 1. This leaves Ge/It: 4 chits in entry and 2 in tension; Jap: 4 chits in entry and 1 in tension.

I wanted to do a well prepared 1940 Barbarossa but it is not going to happen at the start of M/J. I need to choose between early Barbarossa or well prepared Barbarossa. I hope bad weather so that I'm forced to well prepared Barbarossa and I don't have to choose

What about considering a Med strategy? Not sure if you have the builds in place for that though. If you did, you could put a crushing on the CW and protect your southern flank over the long haul.

I've conducted a M/A'40 Barb (first fair weather Axis impulse), and was no where near 'well prepared', and still had quite good success. I got prepared on the way and over time. The Russians were pre-occupied in Finland when Barbarossa began to their surprise...so its not completely dis-similar. Don't worry about perfection, if you wait, your Soviet opponent will be more difficult than he is now.

Looking forward to the map...

Taking Gibraltar was my original plan, but now I will go for Barbarossa 1940 for three main reasons:

1) Japs need help.
2) Most German units are in east now.
3) USSR will get stronger and stronger every year, they get resourses from Manchuria and they can build their militia.

I know how I am going do this, it all depends on weather. Just like all major operations.

Well - this is why in MWiF we House-Rule that Soviets cannot DoW Japan.

The map change has such a heavy impact there, that Japanese has no way to resist the Soviets in my experience.

Sounds rational. Or as USSR player, use advantage and always DoW on Japan.

The main reasoning behind that House Rule is that me and my opponent agree that the Axis - early in the war - should decide the "Grand Strategy" and how to setup their expansion, and not have their rhythm dictated by the W.Allies.

In Europe all is good - after all IF the UK wants to DoW Italy or press against it - that is how the map is designed.
But since I understand for coding reasons MWiF map is on a single scale (Otherwise movements and stuff would have required -double- coding for the different maps on different scale) the moment the unit density is the same, whoever can mass more units is at advantage.

Best of luck in Russia. Bear in mind that he'll get quite an amount of extra Reserves to bolster his army.

Actually, other than the divisions, you seem ready. Also, I see a bunch of ripe Soviet units in range. If fair weather, I would go.

Things could be worse: with roll 9 there would be rain in north temperate and 10% chance for rain to continue.

Axis don't always agree about everything, this is what happened when they tried to decide if they should go first or not:

Japan: We have to get initiative, situation in Manchuria and China is so bad.
Germany: Yes, yes. But we cannot afford to use reroll. After all, we are coming to help you. We cancelled our secret plan called "TakeTheRock" and started another secret plan called "Barbarossa" to help you. So stop whining and wait for rescue.
Italy: We always agree what ever Germany says. They send us resources.
Japan: We use reroll or else...
Germany: Or else what?
Japan: We declare war on US and then surrender. How do you like that? Allies get all resources without fighting. Can you see USSR units railing to west and US boosting up their production?
Germany: OK whiner, we will use reroll if we have to.

M/J 40 Axis 1

No DoW, thanks to storm... Hang on Japan, we are coming but not in this weather!

Germany land, Japan and Italy combined

Italy sends NAV, FTR and CL to West Med box 2. CL picks up INF div from Tunisia.

Japan sends 2x CP to China Sea. Transporter from Vladivostok loaded with MAR sails to Shanghai.

Italy is feeling lucky and initiates combat.

Do CW want to fly their bombers (Maryland or Hampden)?

Edit: First 3 rows added.

Axis 8, Allied 10. No combat.

Germany rails INF and MIL to Poland, tank destroyer to Transylvania.
Italy rails INf div to Poland.

Japan recaptures Soochow, on a 7 US ignores.

Japan rebases FTR from Japan to China (2 hexes west of Shanghai).
Germany rebases Ju52 by one hex to same hex with PARA. Ju88 is rebased from France to East Prussia and Bf110 from France to Poland. Stuka moves few hexes from Poland to East Prussia.

There was so little action I barely call this an impulse...

I'm going to assume a yes and disorganise the Ftr. On an 8 the attempt fails. Trans returns to Liverpool. Queens follow the Trans. On a 9, the intercept fails and the Queens head via Suez to the West Indian Ocean.

France puts out escorts into West Med.

US returns 3 CP's to port.

Allies decline combat in West Med. Do Italy wish to initiate combat in West Med?

Ftr to 1-box.

Searches of Axis 9, Allies 7. No combat.

USSR leaves a couple of expendable units near the border and retreats inland in Russia. The advance in Manchuria continues. Communist Cav Div takes Peking.

Nationalists move an Inf and Art up to join Chiang.

USSR rebases 2 Lnd and a Ftr further inland.

CW swaps a couple of CVP's around.

No reorgs.

On a die roll of 7 (+2 for the 9), the sun has got his hat on ....

Germany is confused.

Are we in war with USSR and that is the reason they are running?
Should we attack because they seem to be in panic?
Is this a trap?
Are they running to form a line behind river Dnieper?

If Germany takes Bessarabia and Chisinau USSR production multiples jumps from 0,5 to 1.

There seems to be easy kills and lots of ground to take. I planned to make a well organized Barbarossa after first impulse storm, but here we go! USSR gets more production and Germany gets lots of land. Let's hope weather stays fine and this is a good decision.

M/J 40 Axis 5

Germany breaks pact with USSR and (only Germany) declares war on USSR. On a 5 US gets one chit.
