I think the biggest issue is the TOE. Moral and EXP can be increased but a weak TOE you can´t do much about. Erik tried defending the Marianas with a bunch of these "low TOE" units and even behind solid forts they can´t defend for long. They just lack staying power despite good AV numbers.

No stress with the turn. Its not like I sit here refreshing my email every 5 minutes or so...*cough cough*...


That is probably the wrong use for them. They fill space, so put on bases that need be garrisoned, but are easily bypassed. That way you can fly them out when their purpose is pointless, and it frees up the heavier troops to be on the front lines.

Or as an emergency air mobile reserve, which is very important for Japan to create. There are several 75mm artillery units that are air mobile too not to mention the wonderful 47 mm autocannon, and sometimes, it is enough to stem the tide.

I recently did this at Matsuyama, flying in 47mm autocannnons and airlifting a regiment.

You know I am a hardcore JFB, when I call the 47mm autocannon wonderful.

Eh, you only have one flame thrower tank there. No worries. It is the Soviets that are really scary.

Those mortars are 150mm. But overall, a pretty weak defense.




Ok...this upcoming turn I am flying in some 47mm autocannons from Honshu to bolster the defense. If Daito isn't the target, I will simply fly them out again.

Barges are moving a fair amount of troops into the Western Japanese Islands. Not that they will be able to stop an invasion, but at least they will bolster the defense.

Daito reinforced with a battery of 47mm rapid fire cannons. Three of the western Japanese Islands gets some ground troops to go with their engineers. Got to love barges. Amami gets a few more ground troops flown in too.

Status: offline 		Indochina. Relatively fresh troops (2 divisions and 1 mixed brigade) arrive in Dalat and Cam Ranh to help secure those bases, while the 4th Division will arrive in the jungle rough road position to the north of Dalat tomorrow along with more AA, and some artillery.

Cam Ranh was bombarded by a cleveland class and a few destroyers. There is a battleship at Saigon, but no troop transports spotted.

Another month, half over...

Allied submarines continue to wreck havoc among the IJN shipping, and a small xak convoy is caught in the SRA by bombers. A normal day in mid 44.

Indochina, north of Dalat, the IJA defenders, a hodgepodge of SNLF, INA, and regular IJA try to hold against an Allied armored thrust, now supported by two full divisions. Rested Allied Divisions, one American and one Commonwealth.

During the day the heavy bombs, come, and come. Ammunition is running scarce, but their is hope. From Dalat the 4th Division is marching to the relief. And from the southeast comes more heavy artillery and AA.

As afternoon comes, the Allied Army launches their attack. The defenders are disrupted, but bolstered by the arriving 4th which moves into position.

Japan holds! By the skin of their teeth, but we hold!

Fresh heavy artillery, 10cm guns and heavy mortars, move into firing positions for the attack fully expected on the morrow. A fresh 8cm flak unit assumes firing positions.

Where are the supplies?

A night bombing run against the Queen Elizabeth proves costly losing 5 Betties, radar equipped, for no gain. Of course there is a few Allied night fighters up, disrupting their aim.

I like these guys, but obviously not enough to change leaders.

An INA rifle squads packs 1/3 more anti soft firepower as an IJA squad.

I always figured these units follow Allied build doctrines and not Japanese build to order methodology.

Which means you need to manage the pools. However, I have not at all this game. But of course I think my theory is all wrong given the data given on this chart.

I'm almost embarrassed to ask such a question, but what would be the best approach to managing these pools for the Japanese player?

I just thought these troops come from a portion of the population that isn't in great supply or restricted for one reason or another.

So kind of the opposite of how allied "production" work where you are given a fixed number of things.

You are quite correct, but you see these troops actually have a build rate and except for the paratroops & SNLF aren't Japanese. Why have a build rate, none of the other device have it and yet I am making plenty of IJA squads.

I still think they might just build, like other Japanese devices. Why wouldn't they? They are in the IJA or IJN "nation" switch, right? As far as I know, only those 2 nations exist... it's possible that the code for whether it takes replacements from a pool or is built from ARM/VEH like other devices is on something other than the nation code, but...

Looking at your numbers, you have 68 INA Rifle Squads built this month, with a built rate of 1. That does not compute, sir.

They build out of ARM/VEH like normal. That's my evidence right there.


Edit: bolded a section. Why aren't they Japanese? The units are still under IJA or IJN command, right? So, they're Japanese.

Status: offline 		Allied get a division on my weak spot and attack, can't hold this turn and it opens up two road hexes for him to penetrate into.

The 2nd Tank is nearby, and supplies will be rough for him to push forward thru the jungle, so I will not panic yet. I hope to get some artillery into the threatened hexes and hopefully punish him if he tries to go cross country.

Could be. I finally have enough troops to put some brigades and regiments on the Japanese Islands. Barges are working real well for this.

Also, I am thinking about removing some of the air mobile troops to China/Korea from Honshu. My goal would be to free up troops with better TOEs or to reinforce Okinawa and Amami.

Status: offline 		Just my $0.02 here: he's on Shikoku and Hokkaido in force. other places are really moot now until you evict him. shouldn't the plan be to get ~20K AV of whatever you can find on Skikoku and push? maybe I'm missing something ...
