I don't have much success with mines against DD's as they have inherent sweep capability. CD's have always worked best for me, but the Yangtze has diddly to start with, and you would had to have salvaged several from islands to have any. Other than LBA, I don't think you have any other real defense for the Yangtze at this time ...

I have sent a powerful destroyer task force on the hopes of catching his depleted destroyers on the way out.

I have identified two base forces that I hope to get into place, I need to set them up in opposite ports on the river to cover both approaches it seems to me.

There aren't that many mines in place yet, but I hope to get a fair amount shortly.

June 29, 1944

Lots of night night naval action. The Fuso sorties with a good destroyer escort, right into the teeth of the Deathstar, I hope, and another large destroyer squadron sorties to the west of the Fuso group.

The fireworks start immediately as Allied destroyers flee down river to Shanghai...they are very low on ammo.

Meanwhile a destroyer squadron runs into Admiral Burke leading four destroyers in the Yellow Sea. Perhaps this group will clear the way for the Fuso to savage the Deathstar!

Or I will settle for the destroyer group closing in on the cursed Deathstar.

Burke is here, he is there, he is getting pummeled. The Fuso group encounters Burke twice more in the night.

The Fuso then, might, happily, put an end to Burke. Is it possible he has gone down with his destroyer squadron?

The guy has had more Allied ships sunk under him...Burke orders the retreat, his destroyer has several 36cm holes however...

The other destroyer task force, which ran into Burke first finishes her run on the river, north of Shangha and catches two raiders....leaving one on fire with several good penetrating hits.

But Fletchers, if indeed this ship is a Fletcher, are very hard to put down with simple 12cm hits, no matter how well placed.

A good night, at least 3 Fletchers sunk, maybe 4. But the Deathstar is hugging the western coastline of the Yellow Sea, 10 hexes from Hankow, is the Fuso doomed? How about all those destroyers on the river?

Allied SC TF made up of too few DDs, IMO. I like 8 DDs (preferably all Fletchers), but at least 6 if enemy is likely to be encountered.

Hankow and Port Arthur are swept by the Deathstar fighters. Heck, the Hankow is a 10 hex sweep. There goes their CAP of A6M5c for the B29 followup.

Gadzooks.

Right before the B29 strike, the Deathstar hits with a 10 hex port strike. Luckily between the fighters, the flak, the damage is more than acceptable.

Well, don't tell him! For goodness sake I am getting crushed...and I need little glad tidings.

Where are the Allied destroyers playing? Why here...bombarding the coast.

A small minefield laid on the river, while Honshu burns.

Nagasaki and Kobe get hit hard today by bombers.

Supply shortage in China curtails hitting the Allied destroyers with planes. The supplies just aren't moving well. 600,000 fuel at Hankow, and HI still shuts down every other day in China it seems.

Fuso is spotted, but dl is very low, as is her ammunition supplies.

I had wanted to launch a whole bunch of surface ships at the Deathstar now...from all points of the Yellow Sea.

Butcher bill on the high seas...or rivers.

I know one more Allied destroyer went down, and one allied sub.

Poor composition of his BB TF (bombardment), IMO. Two old, slow BBs (21 knots) with fast BB (28 knots), and then 4 CAs along with 18 DDs. I don't put more than 8 DDs per TF. Here I would have broken up this TF into two parts - the two old BBs with 8 DDs and the 4 CAs with 8 DDs in another. BB Alabama would be in some other TF going someplace else. My reasoning is if this TF came into contact with another SC TF, then the BBs or the CAs would tend to sit out the gunfire exchange. Probably the BBs, but they would be subject to multiple TT attacks if the range got low enough.

The results should have been better. I wonder what his DL was?

Both the 1st Tank Division and 1st Division will enter positions on the morrow, locking up the south and enabling me to pull out the 14th Division which is down to 15 morale from Cam Ranh Bay.

Up north looks pretty strongly held.

So looking pretty good here. Supply is present for the troops, but hard to get any stockpile with the incessant Allied bombing.

And yet another. Usually there are 5-6 bombardments per day.

I have the Haruna and destroyers attempting to catch these guys. Have always just missed them....

Nagoya gets 8 Allied units...shouldn't be a problem.

In general the Allies are moving about, but still leaving a very heavy force at Osaka. Almost all Allied forces bombard with 1-1 losses.

Moppo gets a full division of reinforcements, and Fusan gets another heavy infantry division that I want to move over to Honshu.

Allied recon is in general very good. More than 5dl on almost every Japanese base every day.

Allies return to strategic bombing and pick up 3000 victory points in the last few days. I bet the Allies break some kind of record with the number of strategic victory points inflicted against me.

It will be nip and tuck if I can survive till 1945.

You have put up a fantastic fight. The shipping losses you have inflicted on him have been very impressive.

Alas the strat bombing has shattered you on the score board and there is not much you can do about that. Unfortunately it is likely to be over in the next couple of months but regardless great effort.

Thanks NJP.

Learned alot playing this game...

Finally got my turn done, and sent back. If the files ever finish uploading.

I have set up another 1-2 hex strike and sweeps trying to attack where the Allies are a little weak.

Another DD task force will make a run at the Deathstar...and will try two more task forces tomorrow if he is still in the Yellow Sea.

Japanese industry cranked out 18 Type 3 tanks, now up to 140 total made very close to the historical 160 made.

VP level now is 1.9 (rounded) to 1. I see how you are thinking 2:1 will happen for 01/1945. There is a hope
that the Allies will continue to use captial ships to beat against your CD guns

Excellent game although .. It looks like without your intervention the IJ would have been done a long time ago ..
