Headaches - mine come from sinuses. Mine hate the change in weather patterns. They can also come from "Caffeine Withdrawal." There is no diagnosis for Caffeine Addiction/Abuse, but this one I know from experience. In my younger days I would make the 1100 mile drive from NE Georgia to Vermont in one shot. Just had very large and very strong coffee to get me there. Once I came down, the area around a cap or hat would still would be very painful and tingle. Try drinking more water for the next few days to see if it helps. Don't forget that caffeine in any form dehydrates you. Like a hangover, the best way to minimize it is drink more water.

Takes off counselor's hat now.

Ouff, thanks for the advice. I think the headaches might be unrelated to the quitting. Had a horrible, horrible night with some of the worst headaches I have ever had.

Tried the usual paracetamol and didn´t help. Gave up at 3 in the morning and tried some diclofenac instead. Luckily it worked and I managed 2 hours of sleep.

Feel like a trainwreck today. Had to stay home from work.

Also forgot to send the turn to Jeff last night so it has been sitting as a draft all night...bah.

SIGINT
______________________________________________________________________________

Some (possibly) very interesting SIGINT over the last couple of days.

quote:

5th Guards Division is located at Port Blair(46,58).
13th Air Flotilla is located at Tulagi(114,137).
1/301st Ind.Infantry Battalion is loaded on a Japanese xAK moving to Kodiak.
2/6th Ind.Hvy.Art. Battalion is loaded on xAK Keihuku Maru moving to Pearl Harbor.
2/2nd Army is loaded on a Akasi Cargo class xAK moving to Pearl Harbor.
2nd Hvy.Artillery Regiment is loaded on xAK Wakatu Maru moving to Pearl Harbor.

This tells me a couple of things (if we assume the SIGINT isn´t fake). First of all I finally found the 5th Guards ID. I have had no Intel on it since it arrived. Good intel!

Secondly the PH SIGINT is very, very interesting. Why is he moving heavy artillery and 2nd Army to PH? Only one answer to that...

An Air flotilla at Tulagi tells me he intend to fight for it and that I will be encountering Nells/Betties. I usually bypass the Solomons though.

I might be dense. What is that answer?

Canada and/or WC. Of course this could all be fake and he is using PH to disguise the true destination. If that is the case he is probably moving them to SOPAC and Noumea.

Do you have any assets that can snoop Pearl Harbor? That might clarify more.

Only 2 subs! Getting some info from SIGINT though. Looks like at least parts of the 4th ID is still there.

Almost page two! Sorry for the lack of updates lately. Jeff has been travelling which means few turns have been done.

Currently struggling a bit with motivation both for the game and AAR. Always do when you hit a slow period. Still a couple of weeks off until I can do something "fun" which resparks the interest. I´ll try and get an update up during the weekend.

Started playing WoT recently. Fun but hard!

Go through your large LCUs and ensure they are prepping for the correct base along with all your Army HQs. Ensure a Command HQ is paired with an Army or Corp HQ to increase chance of getting that big adjusted AV when you get to that base.

Haha, good thinking. 3 weeks on Friday actually. Feeling really good about myself.

Already done that a couple of weeks ago. Changed from defensive prepp to offensive targets. Outside India nothing big is planned for 42. Only smaller invasions with perhaps one exception depending on what Jeff does.

I pulled out my dusty CD from around 2001 for "Bulge '44" by HPS Sims a few weeks ago. Its my favorite ground battle of the war since both sides gets some offense and defense to play. I still love the looks and function of those German Panthers. It would have been nice to have the American Pershings available in sufficient numbers for Overlord and the campaign across France. How would they have faired against the Pantehrs and Tigers??

Had to look up Bulge 44. Looks pretty decent for such an old game. Like a really, really early version of War in the East!

Thanks for the tip. I´ll check it out! John Tillers East front is something I remember very fondly. I think I even have the box left somewhere.

No turn from Jeff since Thursday so no update.

We reached 15th of August. Nothing has happened since the last update outside China.

Got some SIGINT that the 48th and 21st ID are planning to attack Prince Rupert. This is probably old stuff and Jeff havn´t changed prepp on them. Both are currently in Alaska but taking PR would give him absolutely nothing at this point.

What are the benefits of getting to 100 prep? Units can gain experience, but that shouldn't apply to these Japanese units who likely exceed the maximum from training. A second benefit is that when you change the target location that the unit retains up to 33% preparation for the new target. (This is based on personal observation.) Some might value surprise and 33% preparation more than 100% preparation and alert defenders.

Prep is the equivalent of making plans, gathering intel on enemy defences, adjusting plans to deal with or avoid defences, and most importantly getting intel on landing spots. When the US Marines began their Gilberts campaign the did not have good intel on the approach to the beaches and when the landing day came their landing craft had to unload the marines on a coral reef that blocked approach to the beach. It was something like 1000 feet (or maybe yards) of wading on sharp coral to get to the beach, and they could not carry the supply that was supposed to go with them. That was partial prep!

Same thing happened to the Canadian brigade landed in a raid at Dieppe in Northern France: the landing included a goodly tank force to support the infantry against the known MG nests, but no one looked at the type of beach. The fist-sized rocks (called shingle) got into the tank treads and disabled every tank. The attack failed with huge casualties in dead, wounded and captured. Poor prep!

The game covers everything from troop training, suppression of defences to tide tables, water depth/beach slope etc. under the heading of Preparation. At 100& prep you will still have some losses on landing from random factors that cannot be planned for. At 33% you will take huge casualties from troops and equipment falling in the water, and losses when the enemy shoots at your troops because they are not suppressed.
I landed at one place with troops 50% prepared and lost about 40% of then as disabled and 20% destroyed.

Omaha Beach was 100% prepped

I'd still take a partially prepped , heavily supported surprise attack over a 100% into the teeth of a well prepped defender.

One thing in game is that the japanese player knows the effect of sigint and should use this to stymie the allied player.

Here is a map of the situation. I havn´t reconned for 2 days but another set of flights are ordered for tomorrow. Going by the old recon troops are moving North to rescue the trapped Japanese troops. That works absolutely perfect for me!

I don´t think my main force is spotted yet. They will shift hex in two turn. I´m not going to shock across the river into Dacca but will circle around it from the North instead. 1st Marines and 70th British are held back for now and are sitting at Jessore forming a reserve.

Jeff is furiously bombing the B squadron of the 3rd Hussars in the North. This is a sacrificial unit that will withdraw in 14 days. I just sent them there to cut the rail.

We held off another attack at Ledo but it will fall in the next. But otherwise things are looking really good in India
