I just purchased the game. Running on a new Surface Pro 4, Windows 10.

Tried to run the game and it said it only runs at certain resolutions. I changed it to one of those resolutions and the game still wouldn't run. I read somewhere in this forum that if I changed the text scaling down to 100% it would run.

That works except the text is SUPER TINY.

What do I need to do so I can read the text?

Also, do I need to change the resolution every time I run the game? That seems like a pain.

it's a combination of screen size versus ratio / resolution used and displayed, it's a problem with none default screen sizes, but simple to get around if we know the screen size in use, the res used and the dpi settings also.

How to get a DxDiag report file:

1. Click on "START" (on Windows 8 press “Windows key” and the “R” key at the same time)
2. Click "run" (skip this step on Windows 8 )
3. Type in "dxdiag" and click "OK"
4. Check through the tabs and perform all tests
5. Click "Save all Information..." and save the text file to a location of your choice

We prefer that DxDiag files be posted as message attachments (zip) rather than pasted into the body of the post.

no you alter the ini file as per tech forum posts

Well, you laptop says 1920 x 1080 but it is not actually 1920 x 1080. You might be off by few pixels, or like you said you could be using Custom Scaling. Here is what you can do, modify the configuration.ini file in the Windows Notepad and change the following:

Windowed=Yes
Sizex=1920
Sizey=1080

Save the file, and run the game. The game will run in windowed mode at 1920 x 1080 assuming your LCD can support it. If not please select resolution that the game supports:

1024 x 768, 1280 x 800, 1360 x 768, 1366 x 768, 1536 x 864, 1280 x 960, 1440 x 900, 1280 x 1024, 1680 x 1050, 1600 x 900, 1600 x 1200, 1920 x 1080, 1920 x 1200, 2560 x 1440.

Also I tried changing the Configuration file to the above (in my case I used 1920 x 1200) and that did not work. Game won't launch.

System DPI Setting: 192 DPI (200 percent)

your dpi is to high, change it back to default, which should be 96 dpi, and then hopefully the scaling will work as designed, altering the screen to make the txt readable and the screen fit with be another thing, as the tablet your on has a none standard display size, like a Mac, which again has caused some issues with users here.

then run one res which fits the screen you use and use in windowed mode, hopefully the combo will work, but it may be trial and error for you to get one that works to suit your screen size

as the screen is none default, if 1920 x 1200 doesn't work for you, then it's because it's not a default size and maybe a pixel off or so, which is why it's doesn't display, so you need to mess around with one that does fit, yes a pain but as it's none default size, one will work, but you may get a border or not a full screen

good luck

Also, I'm doing the first tutorial. I'm simply trying to move the Lieutenant B and Waffen B units in 9,32. I've Ctrl clicked them so they are both selected but I when I right click the hex where I want them to move, they don't move. Pretty frustrating experience for a $50 game!

How do I change the DPI? Is this the scaling bar?

I have a Surface Pro 4 as well. What I did was edit Configuration.ini and set the following:
Windowed=Yes
Sizex=1280
Sizey=960

At 200% scaling and default desktop resolution this will cover most of the screen, and show text at a readable size. The game menus aren't visible, but can still be used by pressing Alt and navigating with the arrow keys.

The screenshot shows my entire desktop, though I've resized the picture.

Well it is my laptop, and tablet. I use the keyboard cover sometimes, and a bluetooth keyboard when I don't want the keyboard tied to the screen.
