Oh my. What was the VP change on the day in Tracker? Should give you an idea of how many CVEs sunk.

Kumamoto falls to 3 Australian Divisions. But where are the Marines?

Japanese high command made the decision to retreat to Fukuoka...Japanese troops in clear terrain and western Honshu are being bombed mercilessly.

No CVEs spotted around Iki or Tsushima...

MTB G-875 finds the large shipyards at Nagasaki empty. The naval squads, fire tugs, are all concentrated on her.

Can they save her?

The torpedoes are replenished...now to put out the fires.

I have been working hard to draw the Allies into the CD guns: bait task forces, mines, wandering MTBs designed to get CV task forces to react, max night naval search, aggressive good leaders on the CD gun units.

It is nice that it worked, but seriously, only a few days of VPs from strategic bombing.

Won't change anything. Maybe get the Allies to slow down a little, but I doubt even that.

I know where the B29s will go on the morrow.

Patience grasshopper.

I picked up 760 victory points for the day.

Might have bought me a few more days of life.

I12 managed to lay her minefield before being sunk. I didn't think she had made it.

More of my fighters are repaired, this time at Tokyo. Japanese fighter strength is almost back to it's maximum level...pitiful.

But it is not a question of what or how much you can field at this point. It is a question of how well you can trade your assets (ships, planes, troops, industry and supply) for victory points and to how well you can delay the Allies from gaining VP.

SS I-12 lays minefield at Iki-shima ( 102 , 57) and sets course for Hiroshima/Kure

In hind sight, I should have sent I12 somewhere else or even left her at Iki-shima.

It is giving me flashbacks... I may need counseling ;]

Wargmr -- your flashback was much worse than what I just inflicted upon the Allies. I think you lost around 3,000 vp in ships if I recall correctly.

Even on a relatively good day, it is hard not to be disappointed in the little mistakes.

Losing an Iboat and a Destroyer I might have saved for example...

But I definitely relate to your cold, dead, heart.

That's... a lot of potentially dead allied ships. Or very heavily damaged at least. Maybe.. 5 CVEs?

What could not do your LBA raids, Iki fortress could :)

And we want a sunk report list at the end of the turn XD It might be not accurate, but still!

Drak,

I think I got five or six...Japanese ship intel is definitely horrible, but we will see what pops up on the report today.

It is nice...but really I think it will only buy me four to six days of strategic bombing for the Allies to recover the VP at a better than 2-1 margin. But, that is almost a week.

But where it might help, is slow down the Allied pace of operations a little.

Time and VP...that is what I am fighting for now.

Thanks.

I think the key is realize what you are fighting for: Time and VPs. Makes the end game butt kicking bearable.

However, the turns sometimes can be real tough to do. I have to relocate and work so much on the air squadrons. Plus, I have to check every port/runway for detection levels and check Allied force dispositions, and so much more.

Plus my ability to hit back is so pitiful.

Finished the turn, and the Allies will be getting an unpleasant turn...but will clearly see I am evacuating another chunk of Japan...so mixed messages for sure.

I got 1500 AV at Fukuoka. I will easily get 2,000 plus there before the Allies can get there. My shortening lines make for a stiffer defense. But I worry about supplies, naval and aerial bombardments.

If the Allies keep their focus on western Japan...it will be very, very tough. Basically, my salvation is that the Allies try a strategy and then don't see it thru. That, and that so far they haven't used a huge feint to draw my ground troops off in one direction while they strike in a second.

Although, perhaps that is what this western invasion is, since there are no Marines landed.

An MTB penetrates past 10 PT boats, but clear skies and Allied radar don't allow it to close with the targeted convoy. Pity.

Allies bomb,and bomb some more.

I think my escape back to Fukuoka will work all right. The Kanoya garrison, close to 700 AV, is 30 miles or more back to the main road to Oita so they should be able to retreat in good shape.

2100 AV of mixed forces at Fukuoka, plus forts...so that will hold the Allies up for a little bit. They were bombed by 60 B29s today. Ouch.

Plane losses for the day...

Allies need 60,000 plus victory points for auto victory, in the last 30 days they have picked up 5,000 points, while Japan has picked up 2,000.

I just need to hang tough here...

Ok, turn is away and I have a few traps set up against those pesky Allies.

-A naval strike. Trying for a juicy convoy. Normally, I get a real poor payback doing these.

- Cap Trap over some PBs at Fusan

- A patrolling SAG off Diego Garcia hunting for supply convoys

- More minefields at Fukuoka, plus more CD guns there

- Luring Allied ships into the CD guns at the Tsushima Straits

- CAP trap over Oosthaven and some merchants

Sept 9, 1944

A new Matsu class Destroyer flees Nagoya...runs into Fletchers, hits twice but is left afire.

Then she is bombed at night by Avengers, and lives, but is still on fire.

Spitfires catch Tonies over Gunzan by mistake. No more Tonies. Over Fusan we do better fighting off a Jugs sweep very nicely and then laying into the attacking fighters.

Also at Fusan are two PBs. One just laid a minefield at Fukuoka, while the other moved some artillery to Tsushima. Something hit the mines, and sink sounds were later heard.
