World of tanks? I figured Warships would be more this games cup of tea. I played the hell out of tanks but mostly do ships now.

I did the other way around. Started with Warships but got a bit tired with the tirade of patches constantly wrecking any semblance of balance. Also coming from the FPS world the gameplay was too slow for me. Then I figured I might as well use the Premium I bought so I gave WoT a try since its valid for both WoWs and WoT.

Got hooked pretty much from the get go although I played horrible for the first 3k games. Last 1k games I seem to been doing a bit better.

I like these games for a few days, or when traveling, but just can't get into them more than that. I'm looking forward to No Man's Sky out this summer! I used to play the crap out of Masters of Orion, and love space domination games, but this is more space exploration. Endlessly generated!!

Looks great! I have missed it, but mostly because I wasn't (and shouldn't be) looking! One major time sucking game is enough right now!!!

(okay, I will explore what it's all about later. The wife is out of town for one more night!)

There's a whole set-up for this on Steam. Forums, etc. Right now they're early access, but at $50 USD. For that they throw in MOO 1, 2, and (spit) 3. It's too steep for what you get presently IMO. But I'm watching it. They've simplified some of the MOO2 mechanics, but gotten top-flight voice acting and really good graphics. So I don't know. I still play MOO2 in a DosBox sometimes, but it's a PITA to launch and the graphics are pretty spare.

I had trouble with 3 too. 1 and 2 are such classics. Tried too much with 3 I think.

I probably wasn't going to play it anyway, but I just feel that WG.net does only an OK job at game production. This is solely my impression from my experience with Warships, but it seems that their design philosophy is to make a game for mass consumption and just do lowest common denominator type stuff in terms of mechanics and tweaks/fixes. It's a games publishing approach that I disagree with because I think it leads to a lot of games that end up with unrealized potential at best or infuriatingly unbalanced (or simply uninteresting/cookie cutter) gameplay at worst. WG.net is far from the only studio that does this kind of thing, but they strike me as the flashy guys who care about flashy and number of users and don't really care so much about their product beyond whether it can get them a crapload of users.

Well, Warships is pretty half assed so far, it's true. Remember that World of Tanks is like 5 years old now and still going strong, so they've had tons of time to polish it. Warships is pretty similar to early tanks right now in that balance is wonky and I think the detail for ship models is making the design process slower.

A lot of the comments from people who have it say it's been "consoled." At the right price it would be fun just for the voices and pictures. But that's a long way from $50.

I think I'll do XCOM 2 before this. XCOM 2 ought to be in the Steam summer sale. Of course Kerbal has a big patch coming with lots of new content too, and it's free. I'm also still playing Fallout 4. Second run-through, doing a lot of settlement building for grins, lots of mods this time since I know the plot.

I never even finished a game of 3. Found it thrown in a box when I moved in with Girl of the Prairie. It's still there.

I would say that world of warships is the newest and least developed of the World of games. Tanks is great. A lot of models and the physics and engine is good. Just my 2p

I went through WoT some time ago and decided to not commit time to a game with a business model based on selling new content (OP premium tanks), nerfing it, then repeating the circle again with new content. Seems unfair for both paying and non-paying users. Although the game is quite fun, so they are in their own right in pulling this trick off.

I was psyched when I heard that XCOM2 was coming out but near time of release it was still buggy and people were complaining about the timers forcing them to feel rushed.

Waiting for the bugs to be ironed out and some mods before I buy this one. LOVED XCOM, especially the long mod.

Don't get me wrong, Warships is intrinsically fun, but it's not a gem of a game by any means.

Will it ever be? That's the thing with these kinds of games companies - they release games when they have just enough that people will want to play it, and the players are all basically beta testers for the game. Inevitably, there will be a huge patch once a metagame has settled in after a few months and they've gotten enough data from their free beta testing on the backs of the players, and that patch will completely shake up the game. Sometimes just for the sake of shaking up the game. Admittedly, the first huge Warships patch did some mostly-OK things, but a lot of them were addressing issues that were extremely obvious to not just me (with some game design background) but also my playmate from our first week of playing and shouldn't have been left unchanged for months. Like commander skills needing some rebalancing and shaking up. A few of their original power levels and slot locations were really, really boneheaded.

Yeah, PC server!

55% is very, very good! I was at 53% but slowly dropping down now. Around 1600-1800 recent wn8 though which is pretty decent for someone with only 4,5k games who mostly play solo.

Home sick so how about an update?

------------------------
NORPAC
------------------------

This area continues to be quiet. But the Japanese buildup continues. To add to the 10+ something IDs already in the area 2 Japanese tank divisions are moving here.

I´m continuously watching SIGINT but besides some smaller units prepping for Astoria and the usual prepping for Victoria/Vancouver nothing new has revealed itself.

Fort construction is ongoing and the strategic reserve is ready. Besides that I can´t do much. I´m resting and training the air force trying to preserve air frames.

------------------------
SOPAC
------------------------

Slowly creeping forward here. We recently recaptured Vanikoro in the Santa Cruz islands. Jeff has stopped raiding here since he lost 3 DDs a while back. Due to logistical problems I have had to postpone the big OP here for at least 30 days. Probably 50 days. No rush though although there are signs Jeff is starting to build up defensive positions.

There has been some Japanese base expansion in SOPAC.

------------------------
India
------------------------

Obviously the main allied focus is still here. We did another attack at Chittagong which failed to drop the forts but took out most of Jeffs guns (some 500+ disabled) as well as destroying around 50 squads outright. 18th UK division took a beating though with 80+ squads disabled. They are currently moving out.

I decided to let the 6th and 7th OZ ID remain for another attack as they took almost no losses in the last attack.

Bad weather continues to ground my air force. This includes bombers, recon and NavS. I´ve spread everything out but its constantly bad weather over the whole area.

Lost a dutch DD to a mine a couple of days ago. My subs continue to hit absolutely nothing despite 4-5 attacks per turn.

Ah. Shame not on PS4. That's a good win8. I've done almost 1.7k battles and my wn8 is 1264. I love the number of tanks that are playable!

One more game comment: I just saw there's a Civ VI coming out this fall. I haven't begun to wring out Civ 5 yet!

I hadn't played in a couple of weeks, but played about 10 games over the past week or so. It's still fine. I'm on a losing streak lately for games like the last one I had last night, where 3 of my team died first (within the first 2 minutes) because they went too close to islands and got torpedo ambushed or some such. I usually get a kill or two, but... that's a steep hill to climb when you start off down 1-2 ships within the first few minutes.

I´m closing on 4,5k games now! Fallen in love with some tanks which I play "for fun" while I grind a few lines. The T34-85 is my absolutely favorite. Trying to get a 3rd star on it.

Went up the IS line first which turned out to be a good move. The IS3 is very easy to play and is followed by the insane T-10. 440 damage with 258 pen....

I´m having a real blast with this. Playing a lot of different lines and found some nice people to play with.

What made me stop playing was the torrent of patches each changing the balance radically. Also the lack of playable ships put me off together with the extremely slow grinds. NC to Iowa took me 121 games. In WoT IS3 to T-10 (T8-T9) took about 140 games. Probably a bit less as I grinded some crew skills. WoT games go considerably faster the WoWs game. You can probably play at least 2 WoT games for each WoWs.

I know it came out too late to be a major player for the Allies, but how does the Pershing hold up? I always wondered how the Normandy campaign would have evolved if this tank started to come out in numbers in early '44.

The thin the with WOT is the tanks don't play against contemporaries per se but against equivalent tier. For example the Tiger (historically and let's not start one of the gazillions of previous just topics on it ) would eat Sherman's for breakfast yet in WOT Tigers are tier 7 Heavies (out of tier 10) and Sherman's are tier 5's. As such in WOT the equivalent tier 7's the Tiger has are going to be Super pershings's or IS2's (from memory). Hope that makes sense
