I think the Nationalist Chinese needs some planes or artillery. I would suggest to start building them (lend lease planes from the US have some pretty nice ones available for them by now).

Generally speaking, the Wallies (not China) should operate somewhat more aggressive on land in the Pacific. You outbuild the enemy, so you can affort losses.

So: attack the Japanese Bridgehead in Siam with the CW next impulse. If you got enough units available, you can affort the loss of three of your own.

Also, I believe I would have made the attack on Manilla by the US. In N/D turns are short and your units are sitting around doing nothing. The loss of a Japanese land unit will mean that they have to transport another one back into Manilla. And that's getting more and more difficult for them. The US can affort the loss of three land units, if they position them wisely for the attack...

Thing is: you have to start bleeding the Japanese, to give the Chinese more room for actions too. Now, the nationalists cannot do anything, because the Japanese still haven't retreated enough units for the defense of the motherland.

The decision to don't make a lot of low odds attack by the Soviet Union is a wise one. The USSR knows it gets another impulse, so an organised army is better than a disorganised one.

Now, about ground strikes. If you ground strike a unit in woods, your effectiveness is halved. If you do it during rain of snow, you are again halved. So a nice big TB-3 (a very expensive but very usefull plane), which you are risking in air-to-air battle too, suddenly has a 10% chance of disorganising the enemy... Also, you are using precious oil and your FTR did fly to defend the plane. This plane isn't a cheap one at all and has tremendous possibilities for reorganisation of a disorganised unit and a very long range. You don't want to lose such an aircraft on a crappy attack. Also: think about rebuilding those TB-3's still in the force pool. They can bomb Ploesti out of Sevastopol. Or bomb the red print factories under German control in the USSR. Or transport a newly build PARA or a MTN from Sevastopol into a partisan controlled Kursk or Kiev (if you build the Kiev MIL, you might even be able to build up an army in such a place). The possibilities for use of the TB-3's are so very good, don't fritter them away...

Can not the Western Allies use the route through the Mediterranean and Turkey to reach USSR with the BPs instead of Archangelsk?

To me it looks like at least a couple of BPs could be send this route.
Good point.

Does it matter if rail from Georgia and the Caucuses is cut to the rest of the country? If the Soviets can keep this rail open, which they achieved last impulse, this may be a non-issue either way.

Good points, all. I do admit that I'm a bit ground strike happy with the Soviets and this isn't the most effective use of their planes.

One BP for every city, factory and major port that can be reached.

Turn 26. Nov/Dec 1943. Axis #3. Japan. The Marianas.

Japan uses one of its two action actions in a land to put a fighter into the Marianas during the Nav air phase. This was a mistake for Japan. Though, Japan elected no combat, the USN successfully did.

Prior to the search phase the USA flies in a fighter unit to the 2 box to match the Japanese fighter unit.

However, both fighters units are not involved in the naval battle and a good old fashion surface action between the USN and IJN develops with the USS Alabama leading the way!

Turn 26. Nov/Dec 1943. Axis #3. USN. The Marianas. Round 1.

16 inch shells from the USS Alabama supported by 8 inch shells form the USS Baltimore damage the IJN heavy cruiser Chokai and force it to abort. The Choaki is only able to inflict very minor damage on by USN ships.

Turn 26. Nov/Dec 1943. Axis #3. USN. The Marianas. Round 2.

Round 2 sees Japanese fighter flying doing a flyby both USN vessels. Shots were fired but at a range that no damage was done to either side.

The battle ended after this round with the USN achieving uncontested control of the Marianas. Japanese fighter planes flying around, while exciting, do not help the Japanese with moving supply through the Marianas. Only a SCS or an air unit with air to sea factors do.

Japanese land units in the islands of the Marianas once again experience supply problems.

Turn 26. Nov/Dec 1943. Axis #3. Japan. China.

Japan opts for no land attacks even in the south. The risk of losing 3 units for the maximum gain of only destroying 1 Chinese unit with nothing else to gain wasn't determined not to be worth it.

Turn 26. Nov/Dec 1943. Axis #3. German. The Eastern Front. Ground Strike 1.

On the Eastern Front, Germany attempts two ground strikes. The first is unopposed by the Soviets because of the low odds of any success. Soviets instead deciding to keep an organized fighter in reserve for more important missions. The Soviet decision pays off with the ground strike being completely ineffective.

Turn 26. Nov/Dec 1943. Axis #3. German. The Eastern Front. Ground Strike 2.

The Luftwaffe attempts a second ground strike against a Soviet stack containing a HQ unit. This attack is both escorted by a German fighter unit and intercepted by a Soviet fighter unit. Both fighter units force the other to abort leaving the Luftwaffe bomber to strike its target. The ground strike has no effect whatsoever on any units in the stack.

The Soviets take a deep breath as these strikes are concluded in that neither Zhukov or Vatutin were disorganized.

The Germans make one land combat and that's an automatic attack to clear out a pesky Soviet partisans.

Turn 26. Nov/Dec 1943. Axis #3. German. The Eastern Front. South.

OKW successfully convinces Hitler that a pull back in the south is necessary to save the German army from disaster there. Also, the Germans are able to link up with the army cutoff and out of supply west of Savrapol, thus putting them in supply. However, this required the movement of an SS infantry corps that caused it to flip (i.e., disorganize).

Turn 26. Nov/Dec 1943. Axis #3. German. The Eastern Front. North.

Either Hitler was in a generous moods or OKW was again very convincing, because Hitler allowed the German army southeast of Moscow to pull back to better defensive positions.

Also, Germany will need some forces will in and around Voronezh to link up their southern and northern fronts, but more importantly needed to protect the flanks of both.

Now, this is the opportunity for the Soviet Union to get initiative back. Target: the white print 6-3 INF blocking the way to Voroznjev. Attack it (but beware of von Rundstedt. He should not be allowed to stage a counterattack towards Stalingrad). You've got cheap loss takers in position if things go bad.

If the attack is succesfull the German must react by closing the gap there, using fast units, since the distances are so large. That will make any offensive action by Germany far more difficult. And the SS INF should be attacked too.

Don't forget to use the winterized attack bonus of the white print Soviet units. Each white print Soviet land unit participating in the attack, gives you another +1. Sure, it might cost you a white print unit (since they are the first loss you must take), but hey: there's a white print GAR available as loss taker at the SS INF and that's a cheap one. Punish the Germans for not having given their units winter equipment...

Turn 26. Nov/Dec 1943. Allied #5. Actions.

At General Centuur's urging:

(1) MacArthur will try again for Manila.

(2) Alexander in Malaya will attack the Japanese stronghold / bridgehead.

(3) Soviets will carry out a number of attacks.

Now this last item, (i.e., Soviets carrying out a number of attacks), is just reinforced by General Centurr's urging. The Soviets already had such plans before comrade Stalin received General Centurr's telegram. However, both MacArthur and Alexander received angry messages ordering them to get their armies movings from Roosevelt and Churchill after both these leaders received briefings from General Centuur and his staff.

The influence that General Centuur has on world leaders is just amazing.

With storms raging in the north temperate and the USA taking a combine there wasn't much happening with the Western Allies in Italy and on the Western Front.

Turn 26. Nov/Dec 1943. Allied #5. CW. Land Combat. Malaya.

Alexander's attack to eliminate the Japanese stack in Malaya failed but did manage to destroy 2 of the 3 units. Also, if the turn continues and the weather stays clear the Japanese will have another chance at the surviving IJA army.

I know, I know, as the CW player I should have eliminated the Indian MIL instead of the Australian MIL. A mistake on my part.
